Earlier I remembered that...
Kara doesn’t really need to eat. No Kryptonian does.
But bringing food is a love language, apparently.
And also Kara just likes eating, period
Which is awesome
Looking forward to tomorrow’s episode!
Supergirl 5x02
That shirt...you know the one. It’s filled with jumbled up mixed up colors and evokes a negative reaction from the audience who is used to seeing Lena in solid, beautiful colors. Blue. Red. Black. But this conflagration of green, red, and white on a black background results in confusion. What is that? Why is she wearing this shirt? Where did she even find it?
And that makes sense because Lena herself is a mixed up jumble of emotions. This ugly shirt with lots of green, like kryptonite, and spots of red and white, closer to her usual colors, floating lost in the space of black feels like Lena’s actions. Lena making bad (read: anti-Kara but also objectively bad as well) decisions while being conflicted about it because she’s feeling lost emotionally. Last episode, when she was speaking to Hope she wore a green sweater, and was anti-Kara. The shirt shirt is showing green as she continues to flounder in her new emotional reality.
Kara is more than she seems. She lied to Lena for years. Lena is furious and was going to destroy Kara’s entire life (selling CatCo and revealing her secret) but stopped because of Kara. And now Lena has all of these emotions and feelings; she still feels very green but there’s still spots of red and white heroism. And on top of the shirt, she’s wearing a burgundy vest dress. Almost as if even though she’s feeling negatively about Kara, personally, she’s still views herself on the side of good, and the fact that that’s conveyed through her outfit is awesome!
In conclusion: The shirt is jumbled and full of colors because Lena is full of emotions, some of which are conflicting.
Romeo and Juliet and Supergirl
JULIET appears above at a window] But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, Who is already sick and pale with grief, That thou her maid art far more fair than she: Be not her maid, since she is envious; Her vestal livery is but sick and green And none but fools do wear it; cast it off. It is my lady, O, it is my love! O, that she knew she were!
What’s in a name?
Kara is very insistent that Lena is more than just her family name. Kara herself has three identities, Kara Zor-El, Kara Danvers, and Supergirl. At one point she even decides that being Kara Danvers is a mistake, clearly separating herself from that name and identity, but in this season we see Kara express her wish to have just been Kara, somebody that Lena loves. Lena on the other hand is very wrapped up in her name. And we see her fixated, in the beginning of the episode, not on Kara, but on Supergirl; the very same part that Kara was willing to let go of for Lena’s love. Or to quote the bard:
JULIET: O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no longer be a Capulet. ROMEO[Aside] Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this? JULIET: 'Tis but thy name that is my enemy; Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot, Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part Belonging to a man. O, be some other name! What's in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet; So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd, Retain that dear perfection which he owes Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name, And for that name which is no part of thee Take all myself.
ROMEO: I take thee at thy word: Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized; Henceforth I never will be Romeo.
All of that sounds great, except that Kara, herself, identifies Supergirl as her self, and to get rid of the part of her that helps people just so she could be loved by Lena would be selfish. “And then one day you were so angry with me, with, with Supergirl, but you still loved Kara. And I just kept thinking, if I could be Kara, just Kara, then I could keep you as a friend...”
I think that in the coming episodes we’ll see Lena wanting Kara to just be Kara (Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?) while not having to deal with the Supergirl aspect, and her ability or inability to reconcile Supergirl , who she’s allowed herself to hate, with Kara, who she loves will be very important.
Lena/Juliet wants Kara/Romeo without the Supergirl/Montague and we all know how that ends up. Hopefully (get it? hope lol) Lena will find another way.

Finally, just as Cinderella produces her own slipper, Kara gives Lena her own watch so that she can be found.
Cinderella Supergirl
Hello!
Long time no see!
I’ve been watching the Supergirl fandom and I finally got impatient haha. So if someone else has already made this point, please tell me!
5x01 is a visual retelling of Cinderella and it’s wonderful.
There are a few visual allusions to famous pieces of art in the Supergirl episode. I, like many people, I believe, caught the Romeo and Juliet reference, with ‘but soft what light through yonder window breaks, It is the east, and Juliet is the sun…’ when Kara looks up and sees Lena standing on the balcony with light behind her. Good allusion, Romeo-Juliet, Capalets-Montagues, Supers-Luthors.
The next one, which I’m curious to see what other people think, is Cinderella. One of the artists drew a picture of Lena and Kara and I had to squint at the screen because those drop earrings, that updo, and that pale blue/white dress, are clear identifiers of Cinderella at the ball. And then! I went back and looked at the scene where Kara puts on the new Supersuit in front of Lena for the first time, and my eyes were wide. Oh! Here is Kara, dressed like a modern Cinderella, on a red staircase, running away from a huge party (read: ball), (because Midnight is coming) only to turn back on the fancy, red carpeted staircase, when Lena calls out to her, and then her dress disintegrates taking the Kara identity with it, revealing her as Supergirl visually.
And then I was like…but that would put Lena in the dark haired prince category. Which, I knew nothing about Cinderella’s prince, only to look him up on Google, and visually, he’s a dark haired man, wearing a gold and tan jacket, and burgundy pants. And that was when I had to come to make this post. The gold and tan jacket threw me for a loop but when Lena is telling Kara that she was going to introduce her, the colors in the scene are tan, burgundy, gold and black, and those are the prince’s colors.
It’s wonderful visual storytelling that reinforces what we heard moments ago, namely that Kara is Supergirl.
Just for fun, Cinderella and the prince were also embracing right before midnight struck. Kara and Lena were in an embrace right before Midnight struck as well. Awesome multi-layered story telling.
I have so many questions
Hello. Long time no see.
I have so many questions about BTS Jimin’s “Lie”. The performance, the song, the choreography, the wardrobe. I just. If he goes solo I’d be thrilled to follow his career, because his artistry fascinates me.
Questions for Jimin/BTS/whoever can answer them:
1. Did you catch someone else in a lie, or were you, yourself caught in a lie?
2. Why are all of your background dancers in the same uniform, hair style, etc...?
a) Is this a reference to Jimin?
b) Was the lie told around this time? (because it looks like the outfit that you wore Summer 2016 on tour. Are these zombie lie Jimins?
My going theory is that the true Jimin lied and the lie, represented by his background singers kept multiplying, as twisted warped versions of himself spreading quickly, and he an’t escape them. When I watch the professional background dancers they imitate him but not quite perfectly, which tells me that it’s the choreography. In the middle we have dazzling Jimin (literally, his jacket, is literally silver glittery starbursts, and a shimmery silver shirt), and all around him are the corrupted “Jimins”. In the climax of the song the “Jimins” converge on True!Jimin and consume him only to lift him up and expose him. The chorus starts again, only this time, finally, the corrupted Jimin copies leave him alone on the stage. However I’m left with an uneasy feeling. Jimin is alone on stage at last, but the lighting has returned to the bright red of before, which tells me that he did not find the absolution he was seeking. Previously in the song the light would turn a blinding white: when he explained that he’d been caught in a lie. By the end song he’s on his knees, fallen on his face, before he staggers off into the neon lights, much in the same position as before. And I’m left worried for Jimin.
Interestingly the only light comes from the ARMY bombs.
Jimin is basically a professional dancer at this point, and he speaks the language of dance very fluently. Even on mute without the music, I’d be able to tell that the character he’s playing is very tortured. The lighting looks like he’s in some smoky, crimson, otherworldly hellscape. He’s constantly reaching out only to retreat back within himself, like a snapped rubber band. The climactic section where he’s lifted up on stage, has him reaching upwards towards the ceiling, possibly a reference to the “Creation of Adam” by Michaelangelo, perhaps for absolution. I say that because of the way it’s staged. He’s reclining and extends one finger. However he’s rejected. His lies put him back on the smoky, red ground, and his lies leave him after he’s been exposed and it’s just him, on his knees in the dark.
Then you add in the music where he’s pleading, “Please save me, who is being punished.”
It’s rather ominous, to be honest.
Which is my overall impression with Wings overall. It’s not a happy album. BTS doesn’t seem to do happy. But I guess that was the concept this go round. And I’m only a new fan, so what do I know?
Two other things, his going through the motion dance, going through the motions of the lie. Everything is perfectly on beat.
Perhaps a close friend of his betrayed him and he’s reliving that moment of deception, or how it felt to have to uphold that lie and deceive someone else?
Last thing: Jimin’s Lie references Jungkook’s Begin, which makes sense because “Lie” comes after “Begin”. The dance move is reversed, and fittingly it has the opposite result. Jungkook jerks his hands towards himself, and his background dancers come closer. Jungkook does an body roll form the bottom up through his chest, Jimin starts his song with a prominent one from his chest down. Where Jungkook’s song is a celebration of a beginning, and a celebration of their bond, Jimin’s song is a cry for help, where the same dance moves leave him alone. Where Jungkook’s song is bathed in white lights, Jimin’s only has flashes of white, that quickly give way to red lights. Even in costuming, Jungkook’s jacket has the lower half of his jacket in the glittery starry material, fitting for a beginning, and his shirt is pristine white, whereas Jimin’s jacket and shirt are consumed in silver.
Just thoughts I had to get out of my head.
BTS Theory Time!
I know! I know! We have a lot of theories and not a lot of answers but what if this is the concept?
Each member represents a different Omela. And they’ve decided to rebel. They join together in “Run”. “Save Me” is the obvious request. Terrible things keep happening to them. “Blood Sweat and Tears” shows a decadent society that’s rotten at the core and riddled with flaws. In “I Need U” they meet up and hang out with each other and party to forget their sorrows and society punishes them for it. They each return to their own personal torture.
BUT THEN!
RapMonster sends out an invite in “Spring Day”, they all get together again. And in “Not Today” they begin to lead their army (the Underdogs).
