When the death occurs under any of the following circumstances (Cuando la muerte se produzca en alguna de las siguientes circunstancias):
In reaction to the refusal of establishing a romantic or sexual relationship. (Ante la negativa a establecer con el autor una relaciĂłn de carĂĄcter sentimental o sexual.)
When the victim was a sex worker (at the moment of the murder or prior) in any way. (Cuando la vĂctima ejerza o haya ejercido la prostituciĂłn u otra ocupaciĂłn u oficio de caracter sexual.)
After having subjected the victim to any form of sexual violence. (Tras haber ejercido contra la vĂctima cualquier forma de violencia sexual.)
When the motive is related to the sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression of the victim. (Cuando el motivo tiene relaciĂłn a la orientaciĂłn sexual, dentidad de gĂŠnero o expresiĂłn de gĂŠnero de la vĂctima.)

So, Chile recognizes a womanâs murder at the hands of a man as femicide not just when itâs the womanâs (ex) husband now, but when it was a crime motivated by misogynistic sentiments in general, including sentiments of hatred against sex workers and LGBT women (+ trans masc people), and abuse of patriarchal power.
Yes, we have problems in our side of the world too, but we REALLY arenât the sad little savages who universally think women belong in the kitchen and donât understand any complexity of issues of gender and sexuality that your own media has told you we are.
