SENIOR Night/ Colorguard (November 2017)Â
Nicki Minaj has been an artist I have listened to since elementary school. The lyrics behind this song, (â âCause in this moment I just feel so alive, alive, aliveâ) says something to me. This verse, to me, summaries the emotions I felt while walking down the 50-yard line in my color guard uniform on Senior Night. I remember thinking to myself, â Wow Tenaya, you made it!â
Christmas Parade (December 2017)
âThis Christmasâ by Chris Brown will forever be a song to get me festive for the holidays. Itâs like people become excited about the seasoning of giving. My high school band actually played a snippet during my last march in the Christmas Parade, and it will always be memorable in my heart!

SENIOR Night/ Cheerleading  (February 2018)
When I first heard the song, âCheerleaderâ by OMI, I was fascinated by melody behind his lyrics. I liked the fact of it being different by incorporating the beat of a drum. When listening, I automatically felt a sense of spirit like a cheerleader. Whatâs ironic is that my school played this song at the beginning of the Basketball Cheerleadersâ Senior Night. (âOh I think that I found myself a cheerleaderâ). We were all being spirit-filled while cheering on our team one last time as a current high school senior.

Prom (April 2018)Â
I have always associated this particular song with enjoyment and for them to pay it at prom was amazing! I never witnessed Monroe Area High School coming together as one throughout the music. Â (âItâs electric/ Boogie Woogie, Woogie!â). Â It was as if everyone was carefree and living in the moment. I will never forget when my color guard coach, Coach Lupcke, decide to join in; not mention she didnât even know how the dance went. But nevertheless, that didnât matter. What mattered was the memories we were creating at the moment. I like this particular song because the artist sounds like sheâs really enjoying herself and she wants her listeners to follow her footsteps.

SEN18R WEEK (May 2018/ First week)Â
Drake, in general, is an amazing artist. âStarted From the Bottomâ reminds me of SEN18R Week. âStarted from the bottom now weâre hereâ displays the mindset of the entire graduating senior class, including me. His tone solidified to us. The journey of high school will soon come to an end, Â an end that will start a new beginning.
DOM (May 2018/ First Weekend)Â
Miley Cyrus has been my Disney Channelâs favorite since the beginning of time. I far as I can remember, she has been joyous as Miley. With that being said, her song playing through the speakers at DOM brought everyone together. We were all yelling at the top of our lungs, enjoying ourselves.
Honor Awards (May 2018/ Third week)Â
During 6th grade year, I came across this song during a pep rally. The song was quite catchy, and I can recall walking into the auditorium hearing it all over again. Before Honorâs Awards started, Principal Hicks decides to play a song of encouragement and completion. âI get a feeling that I never never never never had before, no no,â quickly filled the auditorium. We, the honorees, were instantly happy because we knew very well that they were one step closer to graduating.

Graduation (May 2018/ Fourth Week)
âCongratulations, Class of 2018!â yelled to our class president. So many emotions all at once. My classmate Linely started singing,â I dreamed it all ever since I was young,â and immediately I followed behind her singing, âThey said I wouldnât be nothing/ Now they always say congratulations.â Granted this all happened during the graduation ceremony, but we were excited, although we had whispered that entire verse.
Acknowledgments: Thanks Linely for singing!
