I feel a Hallmark moment impending.
Grace searched the crowded hallway with the other two kids she had helped for the man who had instructed her to do so. When she was about to give up looking for him her eyes landed on him speaking with another woman. She approached the pair quickly, “Hey mister! I did what you asked of me, I retrieved other children just as you asked.” Grace said to him before studying the woman.
"The front?” She asked sternly before hearing the voice of a little girl call out to the man. Her eyes met the girl’s and for a couple of seconds Nev examined her, checking to see if she was of any threat to her, “More children?” She asked the man before shaking her head and taking her rightful place in the front. She looked back at the many children, the blonde little girl and the man, and nodded, her face hard and cold, “C’mon.” She said as she began to walk.
'The front,' he affirmed, just as sternly as she'd parroted it back to him. True, from what he'd learned of her thus far, she was far from accustomed to this sort of fray, to being given orders. Perhaps he should've done well to take that into account, but with the lives of children in their hands, maybe he could be forgiven for such an absence of thought. Breaking upon their conversation, his gaze snapped to the little voice approaching quickly, physically heaving relief in the sigh of his shoulders. The young ghost had managed to escape the horrors of the basement and with two other children in town, though he bristled at the demoness' tone. Stooping low, he cupped the girl's shoulders, squeezing sundry confidences into them. 'Don't mind her. You did well, sweetheart. Really well.' Offering her a barely there smile, he spoke this next bit as softly as he could to prevent the other children from overhearing. 'You're going to need to keep being strong, alright? I know ghosts have empathic abilities far greater than the rest. Why don't you try and use them to keep the children calm?' His eyes flashing with a certain firmness, he then rose upright again, guiding her to the center of their little troop. Catching the woman's detached beckoning, he nodded back and encouraged the children to follow behind her with a soft nudge to the back of the boy at the end just in front of him. 'We need to get them outside,' he called to the woman at the front, his steps measured as his entire being kept on alert. 'You can feel it, can't you? The .. the room's open and they're taking over the facility. We'll have a better chance outside. Maybe have the girl usher them into the chapel for the time being.'
"I ju-" She looked in the direction of the doors to the basement. Demons were flying in and out of there and up and down the hallways like there was no tomorrow. She could hear the screams of people getting closer and closer to her— to them—- as she stalled in the moment. The girl really didn’t want to, but she needed safety, she knew that. So she agreed for the moment, "Fine." She said breathlessly as she looked at the child who peered at her.
There wasn't any missing the clear hesitance in the demoness. Ezra held no notions that she was in any fashion sympathetic to his plight or the very real terror at his back making the children behind him quiver. Any other circumstances and he would have dismissed her completely, but he needed all of the help he could get, even the begrudging kind. Nodding sharply, he wasted no time in clarifying. 'You're older than me, stronger than me. I'll need you at the front. I'll guard the rear.' His tone brokered no argument and he quickly scanned his surroundings for the little blonde ghost he'd tasked with her own duties.
As Nevaeh entered the hallway her body froze as she looked at all of the bodies that were scattered wounded and bloody on the floor, “No.” She whispered as she felt herself become overwhelmed with that lust again. Maybe after the chaos was over she could come back and feed, but not now she couldn’t risk being killed by a darkling, it wasn’t worth it. Not now. Her attention was taken off of the bodies as someone ran into the girl, “I-” She said as she grabbed their arm, “Take me with you, can I go with you please?”
A complete massacre. The scene unfolding before him was like a nightmare made manifest. Like Hell made manifest in the world of the living. He'd been walking backwards, softly calling to the children that trailed frightfully behind him, trying to keep their attention on him and not their ghoulish surroundings. When his back bumped against someone, he poised himself for a fight, and then recognised the demoness. Taking only a moment to scrutinise her, he bit out, 'If you're coming with me, you're helping to protect them.' As if on cue, a small child peered out from behind him to look at the woman.

'Gossipmonger,' he teased, gathering up all of his aversion towards demons and filing it away where this one hopefully couldn't reach. 'And also a man with a plan, apparently. I've got my eye on you.'

Ezra, for his part, maintained quite the tableau as he faced the demoness. He wasn't exactly in Hell's good graces and perhaps a small bit of him wondered if she would sense something like that. Leaning against the wooden threshold, he eyed her through the reflection of the mirror. 'You already do, I'd say.' Managing a slight smile, he elected to ignore his instinct and simply accept the compliment. 'And you have my thanks.'
Arya beamed at the man, the compliment making her smile. That was extremely smooth, but just very sweet either way. “Thank you, kind sir. Are you going, too?”
A sense of satisfaction filling the man at the sight of the girl's beaming smile, he tipped his head in acknowledgment of her small thanks. 'My pleasure, sweet miss,' he parroted lightheartedly, in parody of the propitious statement. 'And I am. Don't think I could get away with dressing like this all the time.'
