James was surprisingly calm as he stood on the other side of Paige's door. Calm for a father who's son had been kidnapped....if he could even call himself a father anyway. Knocking on the door harder than probably necessary, James was moments away from just forcing the door open but he would give Paige enough time to answer. How long had it been since he had seen her? Regardless, she would easily be able to see the panic on his face.
Paige had just towel drying her hair when she heard the door go off. Frowning she wrapped the towel around her neck and moved to the door. Opening it she was very surprised to see James on the otherside of the door. It didnt take long however to notice the panic on his face and if there was one thing alarming about James Barnes it was a panicked look on his face. "What's happened." She breathed out holding onto the door as her knuckles went white.
"He's been taken." James was blunt, walking past Paige and stepping inside before turning to face her.
Paige felt her whole body go numb as James charged passed her. "What do you mean he's been taken." She practically screeched closing the door and running after him. "What did you do?"
"I didn't do anything-" James snapped at her, the frustration clear in his voice. He was running out of time. "I'm going to go and kill the bastards that did though."
Paige jumped and took a step back from him. Arguing with him when he was wound up wasnt going to help. "Do you know who did this and why?"
"No and no," James replied, running his fingers through his hair. "Doesn't matter why."
"How do you plan to find him then, you have to have some lead right?" Paige questioned the fear evident in her voice
"Of course I do," James told her, heading back towards the door. "I won't let anything happen to him."
"James." She said seriously. "He is the only person I have so please bring him hime." Paige pleaded.
James paused and looked at her. "I'll call you as soon as I get him out of harms way," he told her. "I promise." Making promises wasn't something he did often, but there was no negotiating on this one.
Paige nodded the anxiety written all over her face. Asher was all she had in this world and the reason she got up every morning.
James took a deep breath before he stepped outside, taking a moment to glance at Paige before closing the door behind him. There was no way he couldn’t have told Paige what was happening, and now that he had, there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do to make sure that his promise was kept.
James knew that this was about him. There were dozens of people on his list for who could be behind it, but it didn’t matter. Whoever they were, they had just made the biggest mistake of their life. Getting onto his motorbike, James got it started and headed off to the warehouse he knew Asher had been taken to.
Asher could hear talking but couldnt make out what it was, slowly opening his eyes everything was dark apart from a light coming to the side of him. It smelt like mildrew and it made him want to throw up, that also could have been due to the dizziness he got as he slowly sat up trying to get his barings. Where exactly he was he had no idea, as to why he had been kidnapped he had a very good idea. If only the idoits new his father couldnt care less about him so why would he come to his rescue.
James didn’t drive too close to the warehouse, not wanting to get noticed and put Asher in more danger than necessary. Leaving his motorbike, James made sure to keep hidden as he noticed the back entrance to the warehouse and headed in that direction. There were trucks out the front, and James spotted the one with the registration that took Asher. From his best guess, there were three men that were going to be a problem. He could hear them talking (and thankfully, in English and not in Russian) and so he got as close as he could to listen.
“I don’t think he’s going to show up,” one of them said as he looked at his watch. “We could just kill the kid.”
The other just shrugged and glanced back at Asher. “He was too easy to catch. We should have gone for the wife if we wanted to make a statement.”
The two other men laughed at that, knowing that would have been an impossible task if they valued their lives. “We’ll give him another fifteen and then we’ll get rid of him.”
Asher lent against the wall as the sudden fear coursed through him at what they might do since he knew his father wouldnt show up. They were right going after Natasha would have gotten there attention more then grabbing him. His father had never cared, no outings, birthdays, graduations so why would a kidnap be any better.
James heard the conversation and knew that these lot were simply amateurs and nothing too threatening. It wouldn’t be complicated to take them out, and there was no way James was planning on hesitating either. After being fairly confident that there were only these three men and no one else lurking around, he managed to climb up onto one of the scaffolds and get a better view of what was going on. He could see Asher, who looked unhurt, and the three men who were having their discussion way too loudly. They also happened to be in perfect range, so James paused only for a moment before shooting them in the head one by one without a second of regret. Once he was done, he climbed down from the scaffold and walked towards the bodies, kicking them to make sure they were dead, and then glancing up at Asher. “Are you okay?” he asked calmly.
The gunshots when off making Asher duck as he covered his ears. The sound so loud it left ringing as his whole body shook. When the sound stopped Asher took his hands away and looked at his father. "Does it look like im okay to you?"
James stared at Asher for a second. “Don’t be sarcastic with me,” he said, walking towards him. There were no visible injuries, so that was good enough for him. James was about to say something else but a loud clatter of noise from somewhere in the warehouse for his attention. Then more talking. James grabbed Asher by the arm, “Let’s get out of here,” he told him.
Asher struggled to get his arm away from his father. "Don't touch me." He hissed quietly so not to be heard knowing they where still in danger
James just gripped him tighter at that, “Do what I say,” he warned him, dragging him around the corner behind some tall shelving.
Asher threw him a very dirty look biting back many retorts he wanted to say.
If Asher gave him any more attitude, James was not going to put up with it. James was about to say something before he paused, hearing something very faint in the distance that sounded like footsteps. He frowned, and waited to see what happened.
Asher could see his father was about to retaliate but the frown through him and he realised that there was a possibility things where about to get ugly.
James did not have a good feeling about what he was hearing. The thought crossed his mind that the men he had taken out were decoys, and that there was more to this than some idiots who had taken Asher. The footsteps got louder, and there were more than he had expected. Giving Asher a look, James shifted slightly to try and get a look at the men who had now found the bodies he had left.
The look was enough for Asher to actually feel fear. He said nothing and kept as silent as he could.
“Find them....” One of them men said sharply, ordering the others to start searching the room. James wouldn’t have been concerned in any other circumstance however having Asher here was not ideal. If anything he was a liability.
James quietly loaded the next round in his gun, his other hand searching for the knife he had on him. They were trapped, and the only way out was to get these guys out of the way. Easy enough, but the hard part was getting Asher out of here without him getting caught in the action. “I want you to run over there when I tell you,” James murmured to him, gesturing to the open door. “Keep running. I won’t be far behind.”
