Early Leave - Sharon and Audrey
Her hands were shaking as she reached out to knock on Sharon’s door. All Audrey wanted to do in that moment was get in and get out quickly as her anxiety rose. Ptsd was not a fun experience and right now Audrey’s mental state was all over the place, her eyes darted around the room as if she was expecting something to blow up or for someone to harm her. Swallowing hard she took a deep breath before opening the door to Sharon’s room. “Can I speak to you please, its urgent.”
Sharon frowned as she looked up from her paperwork to Audrey. “Of course,” she said, gesturing to the seat across from her.
Audrey closed the door before slowly making her way over to the seat and sat down. Instantly she started to bite her nails before taking her hand away and clutching it. “I need to take leave, immediately.” She whispered looking at Sharon with a frighten look.
Sharon grew increasingly concerned at Audrey’s current state. The whisper only added to that. “Is everything okay?” she asked.
Audrey nodded “Its suppose to be the happiest moment of my life…..” She replied, yet here she was struggling to be happy given the circumstances. “I found out yesterday I am pregnant.”
It wasn’t exactly the reply Sharon was expecting but it was also one that made sense. She couldn’t help but smile. “Audrey, thats wonderful news.”
Audrey gave her a small smile back. “Then you understand why i need to take leave,” She said quietly. Most women, didnt take leave like this, but given the last time when her daughter was killed this would be a special circumstance. “I…I can work from home…if you need but….i cant be here,,,,not know.” she stuttered.
“I know and I understand,” Sharon reassured her. “I’ll handle it.”
Audrey nodded. “Thank you.” She told Sharon before getting up to move before stopping. “Please dont tell anyone. Especially Stella, im not ready for anyone to know yet. I also dont want to steal Stella and Nate’s thunder.”
Sharon couldn’t help but chuckle a little at that. “I won’t. But that shouldn’t be a reason.”
“I think you know the real reason I dont want to say anything.” Audrey replied darkly. There was no way to tell if she would be able to carry this baby to full term given her condition.
“I do know,” Sharon replied, being careful with what she said. “I’m assuming Elias knows?” she then asked.
Audrey nodded with a small smile at that. ‘Yes, Elias does know.”
“I’ll speak to him about the upcoming missions I had planned,” Sharon smiled at Audrey.
Audrey nodded. “Thank you for understanding.”
“If there’s anything else I can do, let me know,” Sharon told her.
Audrey nodded before moving to leave the office.
