A Farmer's Habitat || Ricken & Donnel
"That sounds fun! I’d love to go meet your pets! And your family," Ricken added with a laugh. "We might be needed here at camp though. The Risen have been pretty bad lately."Â
As if on cue, one of the Risen crawled out of the nearby bushes and stared at the young men with its beady red eyes. The creature grumbled and reached out with a sharp claw and missed Ricken by a longshot. Right after the attack, Ricken took out his Wind tome and blasted the beast. It fell over and he sighed.Â
"That was a close one!"Â
With the upbeat mood that had been steadily built, Donnel had found himself unprepared for the moment the creature had attacked. The encounter had been finished as soon as it started, and the farmer had been in the same shocked state at both the beginning and the end of it.Â
Frowning, Donnel could not help but stare at the direction the Risen had come from in the first place with a disappointed look painted over his face.Â
"Gosh darn, I-I’m so sorry, Ricken," Donnel apologized, never wavering in his staring off into the distance. "I wish I was more of a help right there. Why, if I’m gonna be holdin’ a lance with me at all times, I oughta be able to pitch in, but I just stood there like a fool an’ let you do all the work!"
Twiddling the lance in his hands, he similarly let out a sigh— his more frustrated than anything.
Ricken scanned the area and then put away his tome, deciding everything was all clear. He could tell Donnel was stressed, so he tried to comfort him. "You're not useless! I wanted to take the thing out before it could attack again."Â
"Come on," he added. "Let's go back to camp. We can talk more about the farm there."Â
The two young fighters began walking back to the camp where everyone else was. Ricken quickly reported the attack and then sat next to Donnel. Although the farm boy was still shaken, Ricken tried to lighten the mood.Â
