i’m going to take a moment to deviate from my usual posts, so bear with me: the actress starring in the 2020 Mulan remake, Liu Yifei, has just voiced her support for the Hong Kong police. these are the police who have been brutalizing protestors for several months now with batons, tear gas, and rubber bullets, and recently blinded a young medic in one eye. Liu has a social media platform of 65 million followers, and has been in the national spotlight since her casting - her words have influence and impact. her conscious decision to stand by the HK police sends a clear message: that violence against civilians is acceptable as a means of control, intimidation, and suppression.

this breaks my heart. as a person of Chinese descent, Mulan’s character was a source of inspiration and empowerment throughout my childhood, and I’m sure I wasn’t alone in my excitement to see the remake, but I’m even more saddened and disgusted by Liu Yifei’s support of the police. note that Liu is a naturalized American citizen, and reaps the benefits of freedom and democracy in the US while supporting those who are fighting to silence it in China.

It was just announced that a Japanese version of the musical School of Rock, based on the 2003 film with Jack Black, is in the works and will be performed in August 2020. (Pretty fun movie too.)

Sayaka has been casted as a WCast role as Patty Di Marco, the domineering girlfriend of Dewey’s roommate and best friend Ned. (Yep I can definitely imagine Sayaka doing such a role.)

Well this is a pretty interesting cast so far. You got singer Nishikawa Takanori (aka T.M. Revolution) and Kakizawa Hayato sharing the main role as Dewey. Then there’s veteran musical actress Hamada Megumi playing Principal Rosalie Mullins. And I see Aiba Hiroki from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger and the Tenimyu musicals sharing the role of Ned with anime seiyuu Kaji Yuki. And sharing Patty’s role with Sayaka is Haida Shoko.

Looking on Sayaka’s official fanclub site, there’s news that Sayaka will join the cast in a sequel season of the drama “Keishichou Sosa Shiryo Kanrishitsu (Kari)”, which will air on April 1st. And it’s a crime/detective drama too. Oh goody Sayaka’s gonna be in a cop drama again. So happy. ^_^

Two things that are interesting. One is that this drama should be familiar to AKB fans because this was the crime/detective drama that Mukaichi Mion starred in as a regular that aired last year in October. 

And from what I’ve seen on her recent tweet, Mion has confirmed that she will reprise her character for this sequel. She also notes that she’s happy to be able to co-star with Sayaka. (The first season she got the chance to act with Kawaei Rina. Now she gets to work with a huge senpai. This’ll be interesting.)

Second thing that’s interesting is that I’ve found an image or two of Sayaka in costume. Once again, she looks cool in any uniform. Seems that they may have added Sayaka’s skill in basketball to her character.

We are shown Sayaka’s silly side once again as she surprises the members with a familiar old title from the past. Oh yeah. It’s the return of the Hi no Megami. (Thank you Nemousu TV staff! ^_^)

Hi no Megami (Goddess of Fire) was an ad-lib act Sayaka did previously in season 3 of this show way back in 2009 when she participated in the unity camping episode. (And was she hilarious. XD)

Well well. So this new net drama finally answers the question I’ve been thinking  about for a while: What work was Sayaka doing in that post that involves a white lab coat?

Sayaka appears as the guest for the first episode. She plays a lab researcher at the Kazusa DNA Research Institute, assisting a detective in saving Chi-ba Kun, the mascot of the Chiba prefecture. (Which makes totally sense because everything about the drama is all about Chiba and we obviously know Sayaka is from Chiba.)
