Trying to keep up with running while working and going to grad school has been hard. So when the last professor cancelled class due to weather I decided to take the time and hit the trails.
Is this real life? Did the American population seriously just vote into office the guy who brought this meme to reality? How much is a 4 year pass to WestWorld? I'm scared.

Tumblr ate this post…3 times…let’s try again as a text only post…
Ah, WV marathon is now complete…and I managed to run another sub 3! 11th overall and getting first in my age group won me that blue bowl you see up there. Apparently it is blenko glass and I should be impressed by this, but I’m not.
The race was nice and flat, and the weather was pretty close to perfect. Luckily the wife found me an airbnb in the last week so I didn’t have to sleep in my car with 40 degree weather!
Cheap for a marathon and the swag was great (jacket and gym bag). Lets not forget to mention the free pasta dinner the night before and the free food at the finish (burgers, hot dogs, chips, bananas).
Marathon time
I'm in Huntington WV waiting another 11ish hours until the start of my next marathon. The swag at this race is pretty awesome. A duffel/gym bag plus a nice asics jacket. There was also a free pasta dinner for all participants! And registration was only 80 bucks!! I'm still having plantar fasciitis issues but I'm pretty sure I can work through them. I also just got over a cold, so I'm not holding out for a sub 3 again, but I'm going to see how long I can make it. I'm sure around mile 17 I'll just take it easy and make sure I can finish and keep running in another two weeks. This is basically just a checkpoint/training run at this point. I have back to back marathons in January so I plan on giving my foot 2 weeks off to heal before I get back to training again. ...and then I have a 50k to run in February before I can officially take a break before deciding in my next state. TL;DR: Marathon tomorrow and more coming soon. Wish me luck!

W2D4 Marshall Marathon training. Early morning run to beat the afternoon heat. Also needed to stock up on poke balls and took a few moments to siege my local trails gyms while I was out there.
Decided to share a few quick picks from my morning “trail” run today. Also, there’s my fancy half gallon jug the wife got me so I don’t embarrass her by carrying around a clear plastic gallon jug. I actually really like it. Keeps the water nice and cold and doesn’t start out ridiculously heavy.
I’ve been trying to get up early and run, with a moderate degree of success. The morning may be humid, but it beats the afternoon heat for sure. As it turns out I’m NOT late for training this time! The first week actually starts from Monday, go figure!
Also, did you know that your garmin alarm will still try to "wake you up" of you're on the middle of a run? Now I have to wonder if there are any people that go sleeprunning.
Hello again
So it’s been a while.  Almost a month I think.
I came back simply to report that the gallon challenge has been completed!
A few quick takeaways:
-A gallon a day is totally do-able
-If you carry a gallon around since it’s easier to keep track, everyone will ask you about it.  And your wife will hate you for taking it into restaurants.
-You’ll likely have to use the restroom a bit more often, but if you pace out the gallon over the day it won’t reach “annoying” level.
-You’ll get really good at holding your bladder.
-You’ll probably have to take a restroom break during your run at some point
-DO NOT consume the whole gallon by 4PM and proceed to go for a run within the next hour or so. Â You will feel heavy and terrible.
-Your weight will be more steady...and probably higher than what you’d like to see.
-It won’t make you feel more full and lead to less snacking.  In fact I found the opposite to be true.
-I’ll probably keep this up for a while.
The running streak is still going strong.  The running streak is also stupid.  I’ll continue through the 4th of July like planned, but after that I’ll go back to my regularly scheduled programming.  It’s nice to get a run in every day, but forcing yourself to run at least a mile is, to me, a friggin waste of time.  Instead, I think I’ll try to just do something active for at least 30 minutes a day (running, weeding, random yardwork, hiking, etc).
Looking forward to fall marathon training!  I think my training plan starts soon...or it started this week...or last week.  I do this every time, but at least this time I’ve been logging decent miles.
A rough day for streaking
I have no idea why, but it was. Got a late start on the gallon since I was busy with work. After work the plan was to hit up home depot and go for a run before we got home. I guess I didn't get the memo that the run wasn't supposed to be attached to the Depot trip. So after spending forever and a day at home Depot we get back and it's 730 and I'm starving. I still have half a gallon to drink and at least a mile to run at this point. Luckily the wife was cool making dinner while I ran up and down the driveway until I got my mile in. The reason for this is that the roads out my front door aren't exactly pedestrian safe. That and the closest trail I know is like 20 mins away. So I go up and down the drive who knows how many times (approx .1 miles per "loop") until I get my mile. Woo-hoo! Run streak continues. I really need to find something closer. I go in to shower and come down for dinner when I realize I still have all that water to finish. Took me until 10 to finally finish it, but I got it done. Almost didnt cut it, but that's run streak day 11 and gallon streak day 9.

2 Day recap
So yesterday I finished my gallon by 1700, which I realized was a terrible mistake once I started running laps at my local Wednesday night workout. Still managed to get in some good sets, but I could really tell my stomach was full. Today I took a more leisurely approach and finished around 2030, just in time to grab a (diet) soda to go along with dinner. Today's run was a relaxed 7 miles but I felt a while lot better even though I was worn out from yesterday's workout. So thats...Gallon challenge day 2 down and run streak day 4...right? Also, I managed to plant the plants I bought the other day. Random assortment of cucumber, watermelon, eggplant, and edamame. I told you it was random. Had just enough light in the sky after my tun to dig up the dirt and get those buggers tucked in. Here's to hoping I can keep them alive long enough to get some return on investment.
