âI donât have to do shit. I do it because I care about you and I want to take care of you. Thatâs what you do when you give a shit about someone the way I do about you, asshole.â Gregory nudged the boy then before throwing an arm around him. âNo, you know good and well that Iâm not counting booze because thatâs not actually a meal. That a liquid that makes you more fucked up if you having had an actual meal.â He had already assumed that the other boy hadnât eaten â he knew Carter well enough at least. âAlright, so the next question is; do you want me to make you something or would you rather go out and get something?â Gregory wasnât entirely sure what was there for him to make, but he could figure something out if he had to. He always had been a rather resourceful guy â was forced to be really with his home life.
It wasnât that Gregory had given Carter a reason to distrust him, but the words still sounded strange, as if someone were telling him the sky had turned green. He was a bit like a stray dog when it came to Gregory, hunched up and growling at any sudden movement and yet still willing to slink closer for a scrap of stray affection if properly coaxed. âHavenât you ever heard of a liquid lunch?â Carter asked simply to be contrary. Gregory had a point, yes, but Carter was too used to being difficult to simply concede without at least a quip. âWith my luck, Iâd just end up getting in another fight. Letâs just stay here.â It wasnât that Carter was afraid of getting into another fight, he wasnât a coward that would turn tail and run, but he wanted a breather, a few moments of peace, and thatâs what it felt like as he rested his weight against Gregoryâs side. âYou know you donât have to feed me.â He said, fairly sure that statement was going to be ignored.Â
