I think that’s the kicker we never really hashed out with online multigenerational social justice movements.
Older advocates and activists have had these conversations, debates, and arguments before, but many young people are discovering and having them for the first time. So many of us are quick to say “you stupid child, we already talked about this, sit back down” instead of recognizing they’re just finding and figuring this shit out, acknowledging that, and encouraging them to learn more.
Like this could have easily been a chance to say “we have talked about these topics before, here are some things and places you can check out if you want to learn more” instead of just telling the kid to stay quiet or calling them ignorant for bringing up old topics as new information.
I feel like part of that was by design between Nixon and Reagan cracking down on social justice movements before neoliberals co-opted and gentrified them to claim the “mission was accomplished.” We’re having to relearn a lot of things ourselves, especially those of us from backgrounds that have never been involved in social justice before, and we haven’t really established how to pass it all down and outside our own circles. I think that’s why it helps to take on the role of teacher when we can to pass on what we know.

Seriously anyone engaging with age verification bill discourse in terms of whether or not you think age restricting content is good or bad are completely missing the point.
These bills have nothing to do with keeping young people from doing certain things or protecting the children or whatever. Their point is and always has been one thing: If your operating system knows who you are it is impossible to have any real form of privacy on the computer.
Thats it, thats the whole thing. They want to link your every single usage of computers to your real world identity, and like they have been doing for all of time, they are hiding under the guise of protecting the children.

It took me the better part of a day to try and get some of the effects tested on a clip I was planning on posting from my Worst of 2025 video, but the fight to try and get captions on it too kept me from posting it to social media (the feature to add those to videos is hidden behind paywalls in basically every editing app, including Resolve) but I could use some feedback on how this looks compared to the original video and if it'd work for AI scraping potential.

Commemorating my 5th anniversary of VTubing with some long overdue and much needed introspection
Looking for Insight/Feedback on an Idea
I was hoping to have some insight from any people with knowledge about machine learning and disrupting it to protect creative works. In lieu of what Google/YouTube said about uploading music to their platform and the general trend of platforms saying "anything you upload here is ours to use for training AI," it got me wondering of possible ways of protecting my own videos going forward, knowing this wouldn't stop at scraping music, and I think I have a solution.
For the video portion, I was thinking of adding two transparent layers over the video in Davinci Resolve as Fusion Effects, one featuring a watermark and one featuring a textured background. I was thinking of having both layers slowly move over the course of the video, but if the effect works just as well with them stagnant I can do that.
For the audio portion, I was thinking of adding in some layers of low level noise, something to distort a scraper but hopefully not easily be picked out and removed, and something inaudible to the listener. If not that, maybe a second layer of the video’s audio at a lower decibel but with filters and distortions that wouldn’t be audible but would screw with any attempts to scrape and train from it.
Would this be a viable plan, at least for the time being? Or is there better solutions I could do on my end to protect my work?
