Tajie D Of K-Town
@therealtajied
At a very young age, Taj "Tajie D" Dedrick already showed signs of being talented in music. His mother and grand mother would watch him attempt to beat box at the age of one even though all he was doing was spitting all over himself. Tajie's mother Tara Lee Cossey was deep in the bay area music scene in the 80's and late 90's when she was with Tajie's father Byron Dedrick. The two lived and hung out with bay area rap icons like Mac Dre, E-40, Mac Mall, Ray Luv, Tevya "Wisdom" Jones and the legendary Tupac Shakur. Tara and Byron were both very talented dancers and were back up dancers for Ray Luv and Tupac before the became famous. Tara gave birth to Tajie August 14th 1991 and brother Jay "JD" Dedrick in 1993 then moved to Lake County to raise them in a better environment, and to get them away from the harsh music life she lived. At three years old he was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a disease that will make him wheelchair bound and cause his mussels to get weaker the older he gets while also having respiratory problems. "I see this disease as a gift not a curse. I truly believe I was handed this situation so I can show people that we all need to live life to the fullest no matter what situation we are in." When Tajie turned eleven he grew fond of Hip Hop and RnB. He watched BET and MTV everyday when he got home. While watching MTV after school he herd a song that would help create the artist we know as Tajie D. Rapper 50 Cent's video "In Da Club" appered and Tajie was hooked. He went online everyday to hear the song and two weeks later knew every word. One day driving in the car to school the song came on the radio and Tajie rapped the entire song. Not knowing his mother was watching, she saw potential in her son and automatically thought he would get into music. When Tajie became fourteen he went to his mom and told her "Mom, I want to be a rapper." She thought here we go again. Tajie wrote his first rap named "Who is that" which talks about his introduction into the rap game. At sixteen, Tajies father byron started a small Indie Label named Bonnie and Clyde ENT. Tajie called his dad, rapped him his lyrics over the phone, then byron put Tajie as a artist on the label and sent him beats to work on. one year later byron brought Tajie to his in home studio and Tajie made his first songs. At seventeen, Tajie went through a life threatning surgery that would change his life forever. One day his doctor decided to have Tajie's tonsills and abnoids removed to help him breath better. The surgery was successful but while in recovery he caught a staff infection in his lungs and both lungs collapsed. "All I remember is white lights and seeing people in my life that passed way, i guess you could say I saw the light lol." two weeks later he was released from the hospital and had a hard time talking, eatting and drinking. one week after being released Tajie started recording songs for his debt CD going against doctors orders to take it easy for three months. "I couldnt take it, I had to record sooner. I was so stubborn that I would be rapping and I ended up spitting stitches out that were in my throat and nose. The show must go on." One day while sitting with Cody "Preacher Man" Morlan they decided to become a rap group and name them selves K-Town, named after there home town Kelseyville. The duo recorded ten songs and started performing at birthday parties and talent shows. Seeing Preacher and Tajie have fun and getting good feedback, JD decided to get involved and start singing, rapping and dancing. The three took Lake County by storm and won awards in Mendocino and Lake County. K-Town has released 4 albums and been going strong for six years. They are working on there 4th album K-OTIC and it will be released in spring 2013. Be sure to catch a K-Town show this year, go to the calander and check there tour dates.
