Untitled by Paul Reid Via Flickr: this is one of my favourite photos. I was walking with my fm2 and 28mm lens and for a moment I stared at the big wheel. I could see it going round slowly. I was fascinated by how the seats tipped perfectly to keep everyone level all the way round. just then a black hearse was making its way towards me. In my subconscious i knew there was a photo to take. I just had enough time to raise my camera and push the shutter before the hearse was gone. I didn't know if i had a sufficient shutter speed, if the hearse was in focus or if the shot was straight. but I was glad I did my best. it took a month before I developed that roll. but I always hoped that shot would come out. looking at it makes me think. one day you are riding the big wheel, you go round and round in perfect balance. then one day. you are in the hearse. passing by. so enjoy your time on the wheel. look out to the view. turn to your passenger. look into their eyes. smile and live kindly. drink in every moment. being on the wheel is a gift. don't waste a single second. the hearse is waiting.
