I went to the grocery store yesterday, and even though it wasn't super crowded (surprisingly), lots of people there made me feel like I'm in the way. I'm not sure why, but my anxiety is usually fine until I am driving, or feeling in the way. Then I'm a frantic, spastic mess, because deep down, I don't want to be in someone's way....when I was a kid, and I would get in my father's way, he would react immediately with abusive behavior directed at me....I guess being in someone's way brings be back to that state. I just am scared to seek help (currently off meds, but have been on them before), but last time I did, they gave me medicine that made me a different person. Altered more than my mood; my mom said it seemed to alter my personality, my perspective, it crushed my spirit, killed my drive, drove me away from my passions. I'm too scared to be on anything again, because of those last results....and on top of that anxiety, people seem to not see me, as though I'm literally invisible. It's so bad now, that I've started counting. Yesterday, two (low number for that trip) people ran into me. Nobody said sorry, asked if I was alright, or even noticed they ran into an actual person. It was like (and always is) they never even saw me....which makes me feel more in the way, and it's just a vicious cycle. Yesterday, after the second crash, I had to find somewhere to hide...I only needed two avacados and I was so close! So I gave myself a pep talk, and made it to the avacados, got them, and headed to the checkout. Luckily, after all of that, the self checkout was open, so I didn't have to interact with people in any way. Why am I like this? At work, I am completely comfortable. At home, I'm obviously fine, too. But when I get out, if I'm ALONE, it's anxiety-full speed. If I were to make the same grocery trip WITH anyone, I would have been okay. Why does this happen? Is it worth seeking help? I'm worried about the costs of seeking help...which brings more anxiety...and I'm just an anxious ball of feelings rolling around aimlessly worrying and wondering.....maybe I should seek help.....I try to talk to my husband, but he doesn't understand....he thinks it's a switch I can turn off/on, but it's not. It's constant. I feel stuck.
