A new word. An original poem. A photograph from Iceland. One idea connecting them all. This week's Word Nerd Wednesday explores apophenia. #WordNerdWednesday #Apophenia #Poetry #Vocabulary #Writing

Flash Fiction Friday: Pattern Recognition Timing matters. It always matters. Miss one train and meet your future spouse. Stop to tie your shoe and avoid a falling brick. People call it coincidence because they aren't paying attention....
We all have sacred cows. Maybe the hardest questions are the ones we ask of ourselves. This week's Word Nerd Wednesday explores redress, not as punishment, but as the work of making things right. Read the poem. #poetry #WordNerdWednesday #redress #truth #accountability #criticalthinking #writing #poem

The cabin chime dings. You have forty-one minutes before you lose everything. My first Flash Fiction Friday story is now live: Ten Thousand Steps. A delayed flight. A race against midnight. A plan that begins to unravel one step at a time. For reasons I still find amusing, one of the top Google search phrases leading people to TheOtherKLM.com is "ethereal poetry." So... I wrote one. This week's Word Nerd Wednesday explores ethereal through an acrostic poem built from dawn, mist, spider silk, and quiet mornings. I'd love to know what image stayed with you after reading it. #poetry #ethereal #acrostic #WordNerdWednesday #naturewriting #poem #poetrycommunity #writersoftumblr #TheOtherKLM
How much is a little? We tell ourselves a little chaos is good for us. A cluttered desk. A little pressure. A little noise. But where's the tipping point? New poem: A Little Bit #poetry #poem #writing #creativewriting #chaos #amwriting #writersoftumblr #poetsoftumblr #wildfiresmoke
This week's commentary begins with wildfire smoke, but the five featured poems explore something bigger. Responsibility. Stewardship. Caring for our communities and the places we call home. If you have a few minutes this weekend, I'd love for you to explore this week's Five for Friday and join the discussion. #fiveforfriday #poetry #stewardship #community #wildfire #environment #writingcommunity The accompanying commentary asks a question that's been on my mind: Have we become accustomed to the smoke? Not just the haze filling our skies, but the slow acceptance of things that should never become ordinary. I'd love to hear your thoughts. #poetry #poems #wildfire #drought #weather #environment #writing #writingcommunity #utah #fiveforfriday
This week's Word Nerd Wednesday is **stewardship**. I looked at where the word came from, what it has meant over the centuries, and why I think it's still worth talking about today. I also wrote a little acrostic poem inspired by it. I'd love to hear what the word means to you. #wordnerdwednesday #stewardship #etymology #poetry #wordnerd #writersoftumblr

"Trust your gut." I did. It walked right past the gluten-free, macro-rich, probiotic, kombucha-fueled menu... and ordered a French dip with fries. My latest poem is a lighthearted take on modern food culture, wellness trends, and occasionally listening to the loudest voice in the room—your stomach. #poetry #humor #humorpoetry #food #creativewriting #amwriting #writers #FrenchDip #TumblrPoetry
I've been experimenting with new ways to inspire creativity. For this poem, I played a round of **Word Grafting**, a word game I've been developing, then used the harvested word bank as my writing prompt. The result was Nothing Unexpected. I'm curious where this little experiment will lead next. #poetry #creativewriting #writingcommunity #amwriting #wordgame #WordGrafting #Iceland #naturephotography
The skies have been on my mind lately. Wildfire smoke. Drought. Rain that never seems to arrive when we need it. Winters that occasionally forget they are supposed to be winter. While digging through the archives, I realized I had written quite a few poems circling those same concerns. So this week's foster children are all looking upward. ☁️ Which local environmental issue concerns you most where you live? #FiveForFriday #poetry #poetsofinstagram #wildfire #drought #weather #nature #utah #writingcommunity
What on earth is gloaming? I stumbled across this Scottish word and immediately knew it needed a poem. Gloaming describes that lingering stretch between day and night when the last light hangs on a little longer than expected. For this week's Word Nerd Wednesday, I paired the word with a photograph from an ordinary grocery store parking lot and wrote an acrostic inspired by the moment. The dictionary definition is included, along with my entirely unofficial proposal to turn gloaming into a verb. https://theotherklm.com/ #WordNerdWednesday #Poetry #Gloaming #Twilight #Dusk #Photography #WritingCommunity #TheOtherKLM
Lessons from Mom weren't formal lectures. They were found around kitchen tables, in stacks of books, among sewing projects, and through countless small acts of generosity. Today's poem reflects on one of those memories and the ordinary evenings that turned out to be worth keeping. https://theotherklm.com/?p=10617 #Poetry #Family #Memory #LessonsFromMom #Teaching #Creativity #TheOtherKLM

Measuring Success: More Than Just Numbers There is no single path to success. There isn't a single measurement for success. One person chases wealth while another seeks peace. One measures success by promotions, another by relationships, another by the freedom to spend an afternoon doing exactly what they want.... https://theotherklm.com/measuring-success/
