theodore kauri is the eldest son of one of the biggest businessmen located in ann arbor, michigan (and currently second in line to take over the family’s aerospace parts company). his mother was an EMT working in the local hospital but she passed away due to a car accident that left her with severe traumatic brain injury. they pulled the plug when theo was fifteen and he has never once been the same.

generally speaking, the kauri family is a conservative family, all very serious and professional in their own right whereas theodore never got the memo and failed to fit into the mold. he liked to speak his mind, no matter how brusque or controversial his opinions might be. he wanted to pave his own path and walk it himself rather than being forced to do something that wasn’t of his own creation. that much he adopted from his mother, the woman who refused to take an elitist role at the multi-million dollar company because she was married to the head of the company.

anyway, somewhere down the line of growing up, theodore decided he had no interest in becoming the next ceo. he had no interest in the business world or wearing suits everyday. he felt the lifestyle all too stifling. instead, theo liked the thrill of street racing. he liked partying. he liked drugs, girls, art. he liked being himself, unadulterated and unrestrained. being a businessman simply didn’t fit him as a person, but his father refused to believe that. his father would stop at nothing to shove that image onto his eldest boy, the one who had no choice but to take over.

that is where the arguments began, both physical and verbal. that is when theodore began leaving the house for months at a time out of sheer rebellion when he couldn’t handle his dad being superfluous. he wouldn’t come home, would ignore his father’s calls, would go completely MIA. then finally, after being pushed around for so long, theodore’s father had enough of him. he kicked his eldest son out of the house and gave him an ultimatum. go to university and get a business degree or kiss the trust fund goodbye forever. sadly, money was a tough puppeteer to disown and theo had no other choice but to adhere. 

that was three years ago and theo is now starting his senior year at yates. the only problem is he did not major in business like he swore he would. instead, he majored in architecture. thinking it would be a brilliant idea to swindle his dad, theo decided to just say that he was majoring in it and going above and beyond to prove that he was. three years and his father had not suspected a thing.
