shoutout to everyone in a toxic family situation, but especially shoutout to the people who have very subtly toxic parents. the people whose parents do nice things for them sometimes and then spend forever guilt-tripping them about it. the people whose parents take them places and spend the entire time picking fights with them. the people who flinch whenever their parents raise their hands because they could get whacked with a magazine or kicked in the head…but only once or twice a year. the people who stand outside their houses after school because they’re afraid to go inside because their parents could be viciously angry about any little thing. the people whose parents call them names and threaten to hurt them and ignore them, and then act perfectly lovely to them when it’s all over. the people whose parents treat them horribly and mock them and break their stuff when they have mental breakdowns because they can’t understand what it’s like to be anyone but themselves. shoutout to the people whose parents do horrible things and call it good parenting.
