“C’mon on Michael, tell us a story!” Andrew said as he prepared himself another s’more.

“Yeah!” cried out Sarah. “You brought us camping, bring on a story!”

“Ok, ok, fine,” Michael said as he stroked the fire. “Well, I don’t know how much of a story, but there’s a local legend about a witch in the woods.”

“That’ll be fine Mike,” Said Anna as she laid her head on Sarah’s shoulder, and tucked her hands in her lap.

“Well then, if you guys insist,” Michael took a gulp of beer and then got comfortable. “Back when I was younger, people in town used to scare kids into not going into the woods with stories about a witch who ate them.”

“You’re a terrible story teller,” James mocked. “No flair for the dramatic at all, c’mon, give us the story as it is, not bullet points man!”

Michael rolled his eyes at his friend’s words, but sighed, “Fine. The story I heard it from an older neighbor, Mrs. Ashton knew it better than anyone and she could tell it better too.”

“Anyway. The story goes like this: Once upon a time, there was a woman who lived alone in the woods, according to legend, she was a pretty harmless woman. She just liked solitude. But then one day, a man fell in love with her and tried to court her, she rejected his advances and asked him to leave her alone.”

“He did alright. But not before telling the whole town that she was a witch, that she would consort with demons to preserve her youth. That she had a pact with Satan for her to live longer than any human could.”

“As you can imagine, it did not end well for her. The people revolted and hunted her like a common animal, when they finally caught up to her, she pleaded her case. Protested her innocence, but no one would believe her. They wanted her dead and gone.”
