They say when you know… you know; a concept I was never able to understand. It was something that I always wondered if I would ever know the feeling myself. Twenty-three, sitting at the ice rink and remembering the times I used to make the Hockey boys who dared to race me, chase me. I knew that I kicked a** just as much as a Figure Skater as they were when it came to shooting a puck into a net…collecting points (lol). I never doubted myself even if I didn't win by learning early on that all you needed was to love and respect the game. I never left upset, even after being toe picked in the leg (and you bet I finished my lesson that day too). I learned to share the ice, be taught by others and to never give up…even when you fall. I learned to believe in myself.
The love itself naturally allowed me to get to where I was for when I had to decide whether to make my dreams a reality; or to keep my passion for the sport to me. “My-space,” is a place where I can move with my heart, let the anxiety die and just be me. So, sitting here now watching what used to be me; I understand that when you know… the chasing stops and everything just makes sense. Everything you have ever wondered just ‘clicks’. I decided to keep the dream; a dream and to continue to know the ice rink as a place that feels like home. A place where I’ll always come back to, to grow as an individual and reflect on the cherished moments I’ve left behind. It is a sport that I’ll simply just love forever.
Home is where I feel safe, can be a complete fool and be at peace; all while having comfort from the outside noise. Home is where my heart skips along to the beat that forces you to stand up to dance (or skate along lol). Home to me is a place where someone holds the key and where the love never stops. And, that is when I knew, because simply “my-space,” was now missing You.
