What should I say to my reps/senators(R) in regards to the AI preemption package, I haven't made my daily call yet.
I'm not sure how these packages work or what to say exactly.
βοΈπΊπΈHere is what I would do. πΊπΈβοΈ
(Sorry, I did get your ask. I'm just busy today :)π)
So here is what the package is about:
What does the AI package do?
Basically, tech companies and federal leaders desire a uniform national standard rather than a fragmented "patchwork" of state level AI rules. They are negotiating to include a federal ban on state level AI regulations in the same package as prominent child safety bills.
What does the AI package include?
The AI preemption package includes protections for kids, creators, and communities through the Senate version of KOSA, the NO FAKES Act, and age verification stuff. This bill would preempt state AI laws for three years, formally establish the Center for AI Standards and Innovation, and require certain developers to address risks prior to releasing models.
What I would personally contact and write to them about:
- I would mention the AI preemption package and why what it does/includes would be harmful. (They are trying to advance AI through these laws without guardrails, and they are already doing harm. Passing this bill would only make it worse.)
- I would also tell them about KOSA, which is included in the package, and why that is bad.
- I would also tell them about the NO FAKES Act, which supposivedly protects against unauthorized digital replicas/puts national age verification requirements and why that is bad.
- I would also explain in general why age verfication is bad and will not work.
(Thank you for your ask @cofa :) ππ)
