Prompt 2: How would you describe lolita fashion to a curious person you met in passing?
My go to response when I'm on my own is to say that it's a Japanese street fashion, based on vintage and historical styles like the Victorians and I just dress like this for fun.
When I'm with others, I usually quickly explain that we are friends that dress up together in a fancy fashion to do fun things, that it's a hobby and the style is from Japan
Generally though, I don't like to stop and linger on these kinds of conversations, I don't mind it when I'm on my own schedule but at a meet up in particular it is frustrating to run into people asking the same thing several times a day
It's about politely setting down boundaries and telling people you don't have time to stop and chat, make it clear they are interrupting your day
That's it for now, see you sometime
Lolita & Aristocrat Writing Prompts
I don't plan to use this blog solely as an EGL blog but I've thought about this challenge for a while and I'd like to complete it. I'm not going to stick to strictly posting once per week, I'll post when it takes my fancy
So for an introduction, my screen name is The Mediocre Enthusiast, I'm based in Europe and I wear mostly classic lolita. I've been wearing the fashion for 2 years and I expect I'll reach half of the prompts before I give up
Prompt 1: What is your favourite brand, and why? What's it's history
I don't have one sole favourite. My top two are Victorian Maiden and Metamorphose Temps de Fille for entirely different reasons.
Victorian Maiden produces the "ideal" aesthetic to me, I'd love to match the brand image and I think a lot of their designs could fit into a lifestyle lolita type of wardrobe, sipping tea out of vintage cups and going for walks through fancy parks. I love everything I own by Victorian Maiden, it's timeless and classy
On the other hand, I love metamorphose temps de fille for it's experimentation, there's something signature about meta's design, I feel like there's less of an ideal goal or aesthetic when I'm coording meta, I'm just doing it because I want to. That doesn't mean I like everything Metamorphose temps de fille makes, I pick and choose. I also love meta for size inclusivity, nice to know other people can also buy and wear dresses they love right off the rack
I'm not much of a history buff when it comes to lolita so I'm not going to make an attempt to explain the history of the brands, there's other great resources for that
Well, that's it for now, see you sometime

Gotta investigate the new plants!
[ID: Trifle the brown, cream and orange crested gecko on the ground of her enclosure surrounded by plants]
Baby the Stars Shine Bright rose lace machine embroidery pattern:
I like this lace
So I digitized it for embroidery.
This is not a freestanding design. You need to embroider this onto a fabric. Don't try to just do this on wash-away stabilizer and make a trim. It's not ready for that, and it'll fall apart.
Files are here. Once I've given this a test run, I'll update with a picture of how it stitches. For now, these are untested and should be sampled before you decide to sew it onto your project. If you have 60wt thread, it will probably look better than with 40wt.
Files included in that folder: single repeat in VP3 and PES files, 4x repeat (as shown on the screenshot up there) in PES, VP3, and VP3 with alignment markers for mega endless hoop. If anyone wants a PES with alignment stitches, let me know.
This design stitches out slightly bigger than the official lace. Official lace is 4cm repeat and this is a 6.2cm repeat. This is because it's hard to make small things in embroidery. This is already pretty dense and finicky, so please resize down at your own risk, and run a test run before you do it on your important project! You can easily make this 150% bigger without serious problems, though.
There's also a jump stitch over the front of the lefthand rose. I tried really hard and couldn't make it go away, so you'll just have to clip it out when you're done. One jump stitch over a 3k stitch design is not too bad, so I will not apologize for it.
Anyway, have fun!
