Time is of the Essence

She had been waiting for tonight all week long. Sure, she got to see Cam at school but with all the craziness going on they hadn't been on a proper date in awhile. Maya was pulling on a cardigan when she heard a car pull into the driveway and it honked at her a few times. People may be annoyed but she grinned ear to ear when she saw it. Cam had been working at his license for awhile and had been doing so much more at home to get his foster parent's approval to actually drive. She flew down the stairs to meet  her boyfriend at the door. Maya opened the door and beamed at Cam. "Hey there, licensed diver!" she said, wrapping her arms around him in a hug. "I'm so proud of you, Cam!"

"Because I…" Maya looked down at the floor, shuffling her feet. "I’ve never seen you cry before. Ever. And so obviously it’s for something important." She had been harboring a massive crush on her sister’s boyfriend. He was cute and funny and well…she wasn’t expecting anything of course. Mo had told her she looked like she was 12 for God’s sake! "You like don’t even have to tell me…I’m just gonna like.." before the word go had left her lips she started for the door, absolutely mortified at what the older boy was going to think of her.

Jake furrows his eyebrows watching the girl, not speaking just listening to her. He shakes his head quickly when she turns to leave he doesn’t want to be alone right now. “No, wait.” He actions are slow and sluggish but he still manages to grab her arm before she got a chance to leave. “Please don’t leave me. I don’t want to be alone.” Jake says, quickly.

She sighs, feeling awful. But he grabs her and he's touching her and he's asked her to stay. She blushed profusely,all the while being so  thankful he couldn't see and hoping it wasn't terribly obvious. "Okay. I'll stay." She said, turning back to look up at him. "What's wrong?" she caught herself. "Like I said you don't have to tell me...but I'm not going to make  you be alone right now if you don't want to be."
