Very frustrating when people try to insist ADHD isn't a disability. It is! It's disabling! There are a lot of things that I struggle with or just straight up can't do because of my ADHD, and it makes life more difficult for me. It's a disability! I get that you're trying to push back on the idea that having ADHD is inherently a bad thing, but that doesn't mean it's not a disability! Obviously living with a disability can be really hard and it's okay to have negative or complicated feelings about it, but having a disability isn't inherently bad. The message shouldn't be "ADHD is okay because it's not a disability." it should be "ADHD is a disability and that's okay."

I've had really frustrating conversations about this with fellow ADHDers who claim that "it can't possibly be one because I have it and I take 'disabled' as an insult". Well guess what, I have it too, and I believe that 'disabled' is a very validating and empowering word. In my experience the most difficult people to debate with about ableism are disabled people themselves.

And if we ever actually wait until zero/very low symptoms we get called lazy

Sometimes my mental illness is a part of me and inseparable from who I am, and other times my brain is a lying bastard who needs to be reminded that I'M the one in charge.

hello for the love of god hi. if you have a chronically ill/disabled loved one who is constantly flaking on plans, unable to attend events due to illness, please please please keep inviting them to things anyway. being excluded from events due to illness or the assumption that we won't be able to attend is the worst feeling, even if the assumption is true. a cursory 'hey we are planning to do xyz, i know this thing isn't always easy for you but we'd love to see you there if at all possible' truly means the world. better yet, make plans with your chronically/ill disabled friend in mind and help them navigate the accessibility of it all or choose what you do together. failing that, if you haven't explicitly been told to stop inviting them to things, continue to include them in your plans because being deliberately excluded hurts like hell

daily reminder that if you do not provide the same amount of care, respect and support to people with gi issues, to people who have to use the toilet a lot due to their disablility, to people who are incontinent, to people who vomit a lot, to people who have ibs, to people with chronic nausea, to people with bladder or bowel control issues, to people who use diapers, to people who cannot control their bodily functions, to people who drool, to people who smell bad due to an aspect of their disability, and to people who have any "gross" aspect to their disability that you do to those who have more "conventional" disabilities then you are not an ally.

btw saying that disability accommodations gives someone an "advantage" over abled people is like saying people with glasses/contacts have an advantage over people who can see fine without them and if you say this you're really ignorant

Exactly. Same with how people think that giving marginalized groups equal rights is giving them an advantage or more rights than the average privileged person. Just because they're getting more rights than they had before doesn't mean they're taking any away from you or having more than you.
