Zora Neale Hurston by Renee Hunt (1891-1960)
The incredibly talented Zora Hurston was a world-renowned writer and anthropologist. Hurston’s novels, short stories, and plays often depicted African American life in the South. Her work in anthropology examined black folklore. Hurston influenced many writers, forever cementing her place in history as one of the foremost female writers of the 20th century.
She set the altar for the curse with black candles that have been dressed in vinegar. She would write the name of the person to be cursed on the candle with a needle. Then she place fifteen cents in the lap of Death upon the altar to pay the spirit to obey her orders. Then she place her hands flat upon the table and say the curse-prayer.

Nikolay Punin, from a diary entry featured in The Diaries of Nikolay Punin: 1904 - 1953
I have been reading this book for the past six months and I finally finished it. The reason that it took me so long is because I read all of the notes. It’s spectacular reading experience and I definitely recommend reading the second book of this epic poem.

What a night. There was a four hour wait and the show was over at almost 3 am.
It was worth it.
