“Mommy promises, absolutely no works.” She grinned, brushing her hair back and said, “Mommy will even put her phone on silent and turn off her alarm so nothing disturbs us. We will have dino nuggies and maybe even some dino ice cream.” 

“That’s so cool baby I’m so glad you had fun.” Lena smiled softly as she could tell Eva was getting sleepy. “Hey love bug, how about you come sleep in Mommy’s bed tonight, huh? I don’t have any work tomorrow so we can sleep in, cuddle, watch some cartoons. Maybe even eat some dino nuggets in bed?” Lena offered, “how about it?” 

Lena smiled, kissing her daughter’s curly hair she said, “that sounds like so much fun. I bet they were super big, which one was your favorite?” 

“Aww,” Lena rubbed her back, kissing her forehead as she moved to sit down on the couch with her, rubbing her back she said, “Mommy missed you too, so, so much today.” Kissing her temple she asked her, “did you have fun with Lucy today? She told me you guys were going to go to see the dinosaur museum today?”

“Hey baby girl, what are you doing up?” Lena picked her up and hooked her on her hip, brushing her hair out of her face. She had come in late from work and the babysitter had just left. 

“I guess our brains are still developing so it can’t hold everything.” He shrugged, still signing as he spoke. He wasn’t much of a scientist but it seemed accurate enough to potentially satisfy a child. As Eva cried out Ara reacted slightly. At this point her hearing was fully formed or pretty close so she wiggled and hiccupped in Sterling’s arms. 

“She sure did!” Sterling laughed at her enthusiasm. As she questioned his signing he smiled, knowing this question was probably coming. “It’s called Sign Language. You know how your mommy and daddy know other languages? Well, sign languages is an entire language with your hands. It’s how some people who can’t hear sounds communicate. I want to teach A-R-A as she grows up.” 

Sterling’s explanation is simple enough but it’s clear that Eva doesn’t completely understand, even still her brows furrow in concentration as she processes the new bit of information. “Ohhhhhs.” She drags the word on her tone innocent and curious. Eva watched as Ata squirmed just to the slightest bit, her head tilting slightly. 

He brought his face closer to her and whispered with a hint of excitement to the child. “I don’t know. I haven’t tried it yet. That’s the adventure.”

Sterling held the bun up to his mouth. 

“On three, we try it together. Ready? 1. 2. 3!” 

Eva looked at him a bit skeptically at first but the curiosity overtook the skepticism as she sniffed at her piece of the bun when Sterling had told her that it was an adventure.

“Well, he has excellent tastes,” Chen laughed. After a short adjustment, she carefully held Ara in one arm long enough to ruffle Eva’s hair. “Oh, I missed you little one. Did you get into any trouble without me?”
