Intro To The Reason I Write: 5.28.14 Day One-A New Beginning These four amazing men are one of the reasons I am stepping outside my box and they are the reason I’m still here in this physical world. After I gave birth to my third youngest boy via csection, I didnt heal. Period. Well, I healed on the outside, but definitely not on the inside. After some CAT Scans, Ultrasound Tests, Dye tests and MRI’s we found out I wasnt healed. It showed a 8-9cm hernia along my csection line. I was scheduled for surgery pretty quick. Just before 8am, I Kissed my husband, didn’t let go his hands, refused to take my wedding bands off, kissed my Mom and said “I love you. See you on the flipside”. Into OR I went. I got situated on the table and chit chatted with my surgery team just to break the ice. When my doc walked in, we talked a little. She knew I was a nervous wreck! My Anesthesiologist gave me some “Happy Juice” to calm my nerves. Then came the lovely “air mask” that helps send you off to dreamland. Before he places the air mask I told my surgery team to wait just a minute. Then I said “I have been a blessed woman with my life. I pray Dear God, please send your mercy, your grace and bless this team to correct whatever the problem maybe. I pray for concentration and steady hands but most of all I pray they do their absolute best. Amen”. Everyone kind of stalled, then smiled. My Anesthesiologist looked down and said “Thank you for that prayer. It doesnt happen often here in OR. Thank you. Are you ready”? I looked at him, gave a thumbs up! I felt the super cold anaesthesia meds when he injected them. I looked at everyone and said, “See you on the flipside!” And everything went white. I woke up in recovery and the first thing I saw was the clock. It said 4:15pm. I asked my nurse why, I dont remember what she said, but I started crying. She had to sedate me. I woke up in the SCIU unit. I was having huge blood pressure problems because of the length of surgery and how intense the surgery was. I found out later that I never healed internally. They made what they call an Inverted T Incision. With the first incison I was cut 13 inches from my sternum down just past my pelvic bone. Then my second incision was lateral across my belly button which totaled 11.5 inches. Then the extra incision was to remove all of the old csection scar. That lateral incision was just under 9 inches. So, I was shocked. My surgeons said that no one had any idea it was that bad. The only thing that showed from all the tests was the hernia on my old csection incision towards the left. We were all baffled. She also told me that they had to shut down the OR and send all the patients scheduled for procedures home. When Dr. Rizzo opened me up, he turned around and walked out of OR and said “It’s pretty bad. We will be here all day”. He also called three surgeons in to assist. It was pretty messy. But all in all everything was corrected and everything, I mean everything was reinforced with mesh. All of the incisions. They quilted my abdomen back together. Gah. I can’t imagine what it was like for them working on me that whole time. I. Am. Blessed. Truly. Mostly because my Mom sat in silence in the waiting room for 9 hours calling her angels.
