“I insist,” he said, standing, the pup tucked in the crook of his elbow while he kept a hand on Merlin’s back. “I’d like to pay for this little one outright.”

“I’m excited to see how he fits in with our lot back home,” Merlin says, poking the small, wet nose with the tip of his fingers. A tony pink tongue darts out just quick enough to catch him before his hand draws away, bringing a smile to his face. Eyes meeting Harry’s, he presses a hand to the side of his face and leans in, kissing him soundly. “And I’m excited to get you home, as well. I’m happy for you, Harry. I think you and Mr. Gherkin will be fast friends.”

“Thank you, Merlin,” he said. His eyes were itchy, but they made it to the bathroom, even though it must’ve felt like a hundred years of walking to Harry. Bernie and Tessa trailed behind, concern for one of their masters making them hover, though they lay with their noses on the threshold of the bathroom door.

“This should get you feeling a little more human,” Merlin declares, rolling his sleeves up at the elbow once he’s finished helping Harry disrobe. He smiles at the dogs as they lie obediently at the door of the bathroom before he rises and proceeds towards the tub, twisting the handle to shut off the tap. He tests the water and, finding it at a satisfactory temperature, turns back to Harry and holds his hands out to help him stand once more. “Let me do most of the work, alright? You just lean on me.”

“I work for a man named Coulson,” Skye says casually, hoping the name drop might mean something. “He’s a good man, worked for SHIELD probably longer then I’ve been alive, and he has a sweet set of wheels.” 

“Phil Coulson was a friend of mine. I attended his funeral,” Merlin says pointedly. “You’re clearly an intelligent young woman. So perhaps you’d like to explain why you’re using a dead man’s name in an attempt to convince me you’re not with HYDRA.”

“I understand things have been... difficult,” Merlin says, enunciating slowly. Difficult is an understatement. “And perhaps you don’t want to talk now. But at some point, you know, you should. Kingsman employs a number of excellent therapists and I’d recommend you consider making an appointment.” He doesn’t mention Harry, doesn’t speak his name, doesn’t want to. “Have you been home recently? Slept? Eaten?”

Listen up, nerds, this morning I just passed 200 followers and I want to take a moment to tell you all how much I appreciate you. A little over two months I made a James account on a whim after having never done indie RP before and didn’t expect many people to be that interested since he’s such a minor character. Instead, people loved him and everyone has been incredibly kind to me in this fandom. I’ve made so many great friends and have so much fun every single day RPing this nerd. If I follow you, it means I completely adore you and your characters, but there are a few people in general who’ve made my experience here especially fun who I want to thank. First off, I want to thank bespokesuiit for being such an amazing person and becoming such a close friend of mine so quickly. It’s hard to believe that a few months ago we didn’t even know each other and now you’re such a big part of my life. Love you, twin. Second off, I want to thank goingtosave who has been my best friend since high school and diligently follows all my RP accounts even without having seen the source material. He glances at the man walking beside him. “And we’re certain it’s an outside party? No chance at all that it could have come from within?”

“Any other changes before we go out there?”

“No changes.” He checks the corridor on either side before stepping out and pro- -ceeding down the path he’d outlined. It’s eerily vacant. “It’s clear,” he says quietly over his shoulder. 

“How in the hell did you think seducing him would help me find a LEGO piece that doubles as a thumb drive?”

“I’m glad you asked. Well, no, I’m not, but all that research has told me that his collection is located in his bedroom and, as he has some collector’s items, it’s under rather heavy lock and key. Apparently building with his partner is one of his preferred post-coitus activities, hence the seduction aspect. Which thankfully will no longer be needed, due to your connection.”
