Making art dammit

When does a comet become a meteor? When does a candle become a blaze? When does a man become a monster?

There’s probably more but these are the ones I can think of at the moment! Please be considerate and don’t play pranks at other people’s expenses!

In the preface, the owl is wearing several gag shop accessories: a joy buzzer, a squirting flower, and glasses that have a fake nose. The owl says, “Hello! Now that April Fool’s is around the corner, here’s 5 things I ask of you not to do.”

In the first one, the owl gets startled by another owl popping out of a computer screen. This says, “One. Don’t send screamers. Seriously, don’t.”

The second one shows an owl flirting with another owl. This says, “Two. Don’t play with people’s feelings. Examples:

“Don’t fake ask someone out.

“Don’t fake hate/be angry at them.

“Don’t lie that something bad has happened to someone/something important to them.”

The third one shows an owl wearing a bandage on their head, and a hospital IV drip attached to their wing. This says, “Three. Don’t fake an illness. Especially terminal and/or incurable ones.”

The fourth one shows an empty dotted outline where an owl has been. This says, “Four. Don’t pretend to leave, break up, or fake suicide.”

The fifth one shows an owl reading a newspaper with their feathers all fluffed out in distress. This says, “Five. Don’t spread malicious fake information: fake virus threats, fake tragic events, or fake celeb deaths.”

The final panel has a close-up on the owl’s face with their eyes glowing red, yelling, “Seriously, don’t be a butt!”

“What is the response from the community?…”

Sitting on an ornate chair, the man waited. His fingers rapped softly on the dark oak arm, creating a steady rhythm that wouldn’t be out of place as a drum beat. He looked around his room. Evidence of an adventurous life adorned the walls and shelves. Awards and accomplishments glinted in the sunlight that broke through the clouds. He took a moment to take stock of all he had done so far, the friends he had made, the deeds he had done and the community that had been built.

Ah, the community….the ones who had followed him through thick and thin. They were witnesses of his meteoric rise from humble beginnings to this, a figure of esteem in his line of work. They had helped with that and he was grateful for it. He closed his eyes as he thought back at what he and them had achieved.

The newest feat was creating a world for them to enjoy. One full of mystery, science and magic. It had taken a while but it finally been realised and the first chapters of the story he wanted to tell had been released. I hoped they would like it….

A harsh tap on the window startled him out of his thoughts but he relaxed quickly as a familiar sight greeted him. A magpie with an inquisitive brow stared at him and tapped the window again with their beak.

He chuckled and opened the window to let the bird in. The magpie hopped onto the window sill and took flight in his room, giving a friendly squawk as they circled around near his chair.

He and the magpie had a bond, one that was created when the magpie had helped lead him to the beginnings of the story that had been in his head for years. Now that it was out, he had sent the magpie out to survey the community for him. This is what he had been waiting for.

He sat back down in his chair as the last of the daylight shone through his room. Leaning on it slightly, he put out his free hand. The magpie let out a chirp and landed on it. He gave his trusted companion a smile before asking them a question he had asked many times before:
