Seeing this take is triggering me fiercely because I’m that black woman who doesn’t ‘act black.’

I’ve heard it from family, friends, classmates, colleagues.

I’ve heard it everywhere, because of my interests, the way I talked, the way I acted. And It is so isolating to hear, as both a child and an adult.

And I can’t tell you how unbelievably icky it is to hear it comfortably said from someone who isn’t black. That’s a whole different kinda feeling.

How does one even act black? As if black people all act in a certain way and don’t have distinct personalities.

(And I don’t know who needs to hear this this but being black is not a personality.)
