Checking In
(Part of @theinndefinite)
He opens his eyes to an unfamiliar ceiling and a mattress too pristine to be a home and thinks, tiredly, ‘Not again.’ It takes Gwyn a tick to realise that the thought is outdated, and once he does, he bolts upright.
The walls are cloud grey (tasteful). The bedspread is green (soft). He’s still wearing the dark slacks and vest from his last shift. Dreamless sleep falls away, its gauzy veil slitting itself open on the sharp edge of time to reveal:
Panic. Where is this?
Gwyn throws his legs out of bed, stumbling to his feet (bare; where are his shoes?), and for a split second, he lives in a better reality, one where he’s simply been roofied for a blackout shag rather than abducted for unknown reasons—but he feels too well for that, he knows, and he hasn’t been to the club in weeks.
Though his heart pounds in his chest, he projects an outward, wilful calm as his gaze tracks from left to right. It's a large room—not a suite, but large enough. The low-pile carpet, the TV, the fridge, they all mark his surroundings as a hotel. And, as far as hotel rooms go, this one is perfectly to his tastes.
The catch is, of course, that Gwyn can’t stand hotels.
About the Resident
Gwyn Li Ainsworth ㅤ•ㅤmasc | he/him | late 20s ㅤ•ㅤ180cm (5'11")
Part of @theinndefinite
A young man from the UK of Chinese heritage—black hair, brown eyes. Prior to checking into the hotel, he was a server at a high-end restaurant in London called “The Brittle Bow,” though people who watched the news ten or so years ago are more likely to have heard of him from somewhere else. He's newly arrived to the Inndefinite.
He has a sleek and refined character to him. Though suave in customer service mode, he cools quickly off the clock, appearing long-suffering and irritable. He isn't as misanthropic as he seems, however, and prefers the company of others rather than his own. He proves himself surprisingly adaptable, and prefers cooperative solutions to solo acts.
(Updated 02.10.2025)
Hey yeah, um. Hi, I just, I need a room for the night. Any room. Oh, I don’t know, maybe… that one. Yeah, the… Yellow? Floor? Room pi. Heh. Fitting. I guess.
[ From within the static, you get the impression of laughter. It stands in contrast to the dial-tone voice that speaks next. ]
[ “We’re sorry, but the request you have made in regards to the length of your residents stay is against hotel policy, and cannot be accommodated.” ]
[ Then, the voice twists into something that would be ominous to most mortals, but isn’t to you. ]
[ “But then, you must have known this, to be here, choosing to give them to us, yes? How silly. You know they can’t be given back. :)” ]
[ Keycard 314 appears in your hand. When turned the right way, it appears to have even more numbers added on after the 4. ]
[ “We don’t usually speak directly to those who do business with us, but you’ve greatly amused us. Consider the additional details on your residents card a gift of appreciation.” ]
[ With those final words, the static is gone. ]

W-why is the yellow room called that way? Shouldn't it be just the 3rd floor?
Why, it’s because you have to press the yellow button in the elevator to get there, of course!
Numbers just aren’t for some of our floors. We try not to pry into the why of that; it’s how we lost the Teeth Floor. Unfortunate, really, it was a favorite. Now it can only be accessed when the 8th Floor graces us with a door back into its hall.
About this room’s resident!
Room 13, on the October Floor
Sable Holloway
He/they/she
26
Height: 5’5”
Prior to getting checked in at The Inndefinite, they were a stunt motorcyclist and acrobat, frequently performing at carnivals, and occasionally traveling with bigger circuses. While proficient in performing in the Globe of Death, most places he’s performed at preferred to avoid the risk the act tends to brings, and instead delegated him to tightrope walking and tumbling.
Generally pretty level-headed and friendly, but is wholly unafraid to tell others if they think they’re being stupid ( which she often does in a slightly antagonistic manner ). Is also prone to acting immaturely ( making faces at someone behind their back, sticking his tongue out at someone and calling them borderline silly insults to their face, bickering ) if dealing with someone they don’t like or often butt heads with.
Favorite food is oranges. Disturbingly, he eats it whole, like an apple. He enjoys the peel.
Contrary to the superstition around it, 13 is their lucky number.
…Hello?
Uhm. I’d like to check in if I can? Do you have any rooms on the second floor?
[ No voice greets you, but in your hands appears the requested keycard. ]
[ 208, it reads. ]
[ With it, a note. You read it, and set off to your task. ]
[ Hotel staff will take care of the rest, once you’re done, and 208 will find itself inhabited. ]
[ The resident will not know what happened, but that’s fine by you. ]
[ It’s how we operate, after all. ]
Feel free to disregard if you already have a CC guide in the works/don’t want to answer lore questions on this blog, but IRT character creation, are all the hotel’s residents meant to start out as normal humans (eg. no anthros/kemonomimi, monsterfolk, or characters with abilities [within reason, of course])?
Hello! I’m actually glad you asked, because a CC completely slipped my mind ^^;
Characters do start off normal, yes, but I don’t want to stifle creativity at all, which brings in a fact that can be taken advantage of = The hotel is really weird? Like.
The 8th floor just has so many possibilities, and who knows what else lurks in the halls—I think it’s perfectly reasonable that at some point during a characters residence they end up changed into something most certainly not normal, or gain new, unexpected characteristics.
It could even have happened upon check-in, if the changes can be justified as “enhancing the hotel experience” for the character. This way, there’s no need to play the long game to get the wanted design for your OC, if that’s how you want to go it. ^^
The real world they all came from is normal, but once they end up at The Inndefinite? Anything could be in store for them.
About
The Inndefinite is a free to join, interactive, horror themed original universe for those who enjoy OCs and ask blogs!
About the universe:
The Inndefinite is an abnormal hotel located within a dark red void, cut off entirely from the real world. No one in the real world knows of the existence of The Inndefinite, as the real world is very similar to our own, so when people ( the OCs ) find themself suddenly waking in one of The Inndefinite’s rooms, it’s definitely a shock.
Waking within the room is the check-in process no ones knows they were going to go through. Once you’re there, there is no checking out. The Inndefinite has claimed you as a permanent resident.
Rooms are already tailored to each individual residents tastes upon check-in, and new rooms will pop up as new residents appear.
To better understand the universe, you’ll want to read the Hotel Brochure ( which will be submitted to each new blog as they are created, as well ), and this short lore one-shot ( standard horror content warning, but nothing graphic ). The Ask Blog Masterlist also has some info on the different floors of the hotel, in addition to the list of current blogs.
For the sake of maintaining universe integrity, while also allowing anonymous asks for those who wish to have them enabled, anons will be treated as strange specters in the hotel that sometimes interact with the residents.
How to join:
Through this blog, request a room number for your OC + what floor you would like their room on. It can be a number + floor of your choosing, or I can randomly assign one to you. Just check the Ask Blog Masterlist first to ensure that the number you want isn’t already taken, and that the floor you want isn’t off limits for residential rooms.
Once your number and floor are confirmed, you’re all set to make your ask blog! The only thing I ask is that you include somewhere easily findable—like your blog title, a pinned post, even your URL—your assigned room number. ( Floor isn’t required, but it won’t hurt to put that somewhere as well )
Once you’ve made your blog, please either tag or submit to this blog, so that I may add the link to the Masterlist.
Once you’ve done those, you’re all set! I’ll submit the Hotel Brochure to your blog to acknowledge that I’ve seen you and added you to the list. Feel free to have your OC reply in character to the brochure if you’d like ^^
That’s pretty much it for this post, which will be going into the pinned Info Masterpost, but do feel free to ask any clarifying questions y’all need!

Ask Blog Masterlist
Each character has an associated room number, and each room number correlates to a blog. This list is sorted with the top of the list being the ground floor ( where things like The Lobby and Cafeteria are ), and the bottom of the list being the ( current ) top floor.
Floor names and order are mostly nonsensical, with new floors being subject to appearing. It’s possible your OC may be the only resident on your floor for a bit, though the aim is for everyone to have floor-mates.
You may request any number and floor you’d like, but receiving your requested floor and number is subject to availability. It’s best to check this list before requesting a number to be safe! You may also request a random assignment, if that’s your preference.
Some floors are either full, or unable to house residents, and these floors will be marked with 🚷
[ You have awoken for the first time in a hotel room that is strangely in line with your tastes. You do not remember checking in, or how you got here. You’re not even all that sure what the last thing you did prior to falling asleep was. ]
[ You notice a piece of paper on the desk. You pick it up, and realize it’s a hotel brochure. As you begin to read, the TV—which isn’t plugged in, doesn’t even have a cord, in fact—suddenly turns on, filling the room with static noise. And then, amongst that noise, a voice—tone pleasant and bright, but horrifyingly layered and distorted—starts to speak the very words within the brochure you currently hold. ]
“Somewhere distant, you’ve awoken in your hotel room.”
