Starting a conversation by informing the other person that you KNOW their feelings, and you are acting based on the feelings you assume they have, without giving them a chance to tell you what feelings they ACTUALLY have… No one likes this!

You may have learned it from your parents doing it to you, in which case I can only imagine you didn’t like it either, but you still internalized it as an acceptable mode of communication because we are always internalizing stuff from our parents even though we don’t like it. It’s kind of a quintessential passive-aggressive parent move: “well, you never want to help me, you don’t appreciate everything I do for you” etc. It puts the addressee in the position of defending themselves and their actual feelings instead of inviting them to SHARE those feelings.

hi everyone i'm sorry i'm making this post again so soon after the last one, but since we haven't been able to meet our goals lately we're getting super desperate.

i'm disabled due to extensive nerve damage, and i need diabetes medication. my mom is a cancer patient and needs oncological medication for years to come. wages have been stagnant for years and can barely cover 1/4 of monthly grocery expenses. not even counting medication costs, transportation to and from the hospital, housing, basic services like electricity, and the fear of getting harassed by the police every time i step foot outside my place.

i have already been jumped and shaken down by cops twice this month.

i know we're all struggling a lot but please, i'm growing increasingly desperate at this situation and would appreciate any help you can offer, even by sharing this around. thank you all for having read so far and i hope you have a nice day

to be honest I hate the opposing view of some space enthusiasts of "it's just a rock" because it's not just a rock, it's a world, and one very dear to us. But this attitude completely misses why we protect and care about nature, it's not because it's "sacred" or because the Moon or Earth for that matter has feelings.

On Earth, we protect ecosystems because of their beauty yes, but also because they're fragile and our activities endanger them. It does not mean that we are banned from like, building a house or a farm or god forbid a mine or a factory. It means that we should acknowledge our impact, reduce it and in some cases stop it altogether, but not that nature is sacred and forbidden to us. This idea of "pristine nature" with a hard, often literal barrier between humans and nature (as in, for example, native people being expelled from national parks) for the sake of "conservation" and the supposed untouchable sacredness of nature (with the implication that humans are not part of it) has its own ideological baggage.

But let's say that the words "preserve" and "conserve", while good enough for the purposes, are not the same as leaving things untouched. In fact, by drawing a sharp line between what's natural and what's allowed to be reaped by humans, we conserve less, because we don't have any difference between what should be strictly protected and what should be preserved or managed.

And this happens all the time. The Moon is famously, covered by craters. Because it has no atmosphere, the rain of meteorites that is hidden from us happens all the time in the Moon. This impact was so small it could be barely be detected from Earth. Every day, countless meteorites fall to the Moon. Few are noticeable, the only reason we noticed this one is because it was made on Earth.

Should we make better efforts to manage space junk? Absolutely. Is Elon Musk an asshole? You won't find me saying anything good about him. Is this a silly overreaction? Completely.

The thing is: doing this whole dance where you pretend to be able to read someone's thoughts and then pretend like you aren't interested in the hopes that they read your thoughts even harder just does not work. No one can read thoughts, no matter how neurotypical you are and no matter how much you make yourself believe you know what others think.

What actually does work is saying "Hey, I wanne do this thing, are you up for doing that with me?"

There’s other instances of people randomly punching slaves that they didn’t even know because they got in their way or something. This was just normal behavior.

And slaves didn’t rebel en masse because if even one slave committed an act of violent rebellion it was common practice to kill every slave and former slave in the household.
