Yeah I still don’t like it.

The art is genuinely an improvement, especially when compared to the original and remaster, and I don’t want to make it seem like I hated every second. My main gripe is the new story beats they added onto the article and how they make no sense. I do still have other gripes— like how the acting in general is monotone with no emotion even during the more distressing scenes where panic would be in someone’s voice, but this is mostly about the Oleksei part.

With how Oleksei’s interrogation was written it feels like they didn’t even read the article. There’s so many tiny inconsistencies that get more blatant the more you think about it— what with him thinking artistic depictions trigger 096 or that they tampered the photo when it was the gear they messed with. Not a single moment where they bring up the gear in the interrogation like. What.

Yeah this can be their own interpretation, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to breathe in some new life to an old article and add your own flourishes to it, but the writing choices are so weird in my opinion, and even then that doesn’t explain anything. Why does Oleksei think tattooing one pixel at a time would mitigate the effect of 096? How does he not know how 096 works? Is he intentionally written to be stupid? I really don’t think he should be stupid given how he works on 096, which from the article itself, it always seems to be of high clearance and “one fuck up can cause severe consequences”. Also, Oleksei has always read to me of being high position— or at least on the same playing field as Daniels. If Daniels put him in charge it must have been considered believable enough seeing how neither get called out on that. It feels like we’re supposed to treat Oleksei like a joke when it kind of throws off the entire article’s seriousness.

Also, again, SCRAMBLE was right there! And not once do they bring it up in the interrogation. The gear failed, Daniels ADMITS it failed, but it’s just never brought up again in favor of saying “it was the photo the whole time” like I’m sorry that’s stupid even as subversion. Just because Oleksei photoshopped the thing into some random guys vacation pictures doesn’t mean Daniel’s statement about there being photos anywhere in the world is just immediately invalid. Why are they both treated like idiots when their concern is admittedly valid they’re just blowing it so out of proportion is just. What. What is this.
