@st1nkr gave me a challenge: to write a angst romantic oneshot of two characters (Hunter and Reanne) from the sci-fi story I'm working on. In 20 minutes. These are two supporting characters, and it's always fun to flesh out some of the side cast as well. I honestly had to cram in a ton, but.. I think it works regarding the time constraints that I had.
You Could Have Said I'm Sorry!
Is what Reanne said to Hunter, a noticeable anger pouring down her face as she was wiping the glistening balls of tears forming in her eyes.
Hunter hadn't been himself as of late. After Paul stepped down from a managerial role, he had to be the one to step up, and he didn't like it.
Hard choices had to be made, and Paul entrusting those difficult decisioms to him made it unreasonably nervewracking. Why couldn't have been someone else? Grayson would be a great fit. Sure, he's a new hire, but.. He's more capable than Hunter thought he'd ever be. He dictated every single action related to the pursuit of Bamonte, even down to the way the crew had to fit their clothes. It wasn't his thing to take charge, and his frustrations with his position grew more and more noticeable by the group.
Particularly the Australian lady crying right infront of him.
Reanne, discontent, continued.
"What's going on with you?! First you nearly get us all murdered by some space misandrists, now you tell me to just suck it up?"
"Reanne what? Don't give me another one of those bullshit excuses. You always do this, and I'm getting more and more sick of it by the day."
"Fuck. you." she shouted, her sleepblock ringing with her growing animosity towards her former love interest.
Silence had grabbed hold of the ship, with the tension being much more palpable. Hunter had to navigate this with a sense of urgency, but what didn't he do that for in the last couple of weeks? All of it was just an aimless chase, trying to make sense of the ever changing environment around them.
"Listen to me. I'm.. I'm not sure we can keep at this. I'm growin' more and more tired with each damn journey we head out on."
He'd pull her in for a hug, gripping her uniform tight. She had also initiated an embrace, however it was a lot more relaxed compared to the taller out of the two.
"Reanne. Baby. Let me show you that I care. We never have to deal with this again, but.. Just.. One night. Lemme spend one more night with you."
"Hunter.. You might as well just rip my heart out.."
It wasn't a lot of time before the two had removed their work clothing, lessening the distance between them as time seemingly slowed down for them.
Maybe even a linear concept such as time could let these two enjoy their moment. Their last set of memories in a collection that was understandably short.
Time waits for nobody. But for these two? It may be best if it slowed down for a short while.
