It had been a long week. Between caring for her father during the day and drinking at night, Victoria had been struggling to find time for sleep. Falling asleep next to her father, her hand holding on to his. He didn’t feel a need to wake her up. She was just as exhausted as he was. The coughing had become harder. The breathing had become laboured. Everything hurt in his body. But looking at his daughter, fast asleep. It reminded him of when she was a little girl. When she used to fall asleep on the chair next to him, with her head next to his lap. He would pick her up and put her in to bed with a goodnight kiss. The memory still clear in his mind as he looked at her. It was nice to see her without all the dark makeup. She was already beautiful enough to him. He wished she knew that. He carefully raised her hand to his lips and gently kissed her knuckles before dropping it down. She would be perfect to take over his company when he was gone. She would make a perfect boss and maybe, just maybe, it would get her head together. At least, he hoped. He hoped his will would prove that she was worth more than the methods she took to keeping herself happy. It was like he knew. He knew this was his time to go. He could feel it. His eyes drifted shut to go to sleep. The last time they would open again.
