Mary had a wine glass in hand but was only sipping; it was so easy for her to cross the line into drunk that she didn’t want to risk it. Everyone else, however, wasn’t taking the same precautions – in the space of five minutes, she’d been tripped over and stepped on enough to have her ready to glass someone. As another pair of legs bumped against her shoulders she turned her glare to the person attached to them.

“I can walk just fine thank you very much,” he hummed. Part of him was tempted to pick her up and then escort her out himself, but something else said to stay and be entertained. “Where are you parents? I don’t know, whether to castrate them or applaud them for managing to sneak a child into one of my parties.” There it was, his ego taking over him. If it was any larger, it might need a separate mansion to find comfort in. 

A resonating laugh left Gatsby, as his eyes seemed to twinkle. Never was there a time when the drunk didn’t entertain him. Yet this man seemed, somewhere a bit passed drunk, but not to the point where he would be making any horrid mistakes. But if he did, it wouldn’t be anything to worry about; the host at least hoped for such. 

“Yes, please.” Michael reached for the offered cigar eagerly and eyed his host with amusement and a hint of disbelief. “Your party, huh?” This guy looked wealthy enough that he might just be telling the truth, but he certainly didn’t live up to the many wild stories Michael had heard about the Gatsby.

Happily lighting up the end of Michael’s cigar, the host chomped on the end of his in the corner of his mouth to try to continue talking the best that he could without sounding too smug. “Believe me old sport, Jay will serve just fine. None of that mister business if you will. This is a party not a business meeting. I do try to make everyone feel comfortable, and if it so happens to be with a ludicrous amount of liquor and the likes, oh so be it.”
