Once unboxed, he lays the sweater out on his rumpled bedsheets. The soft weaving is an inoffensive Carolina blue--better than his dull hoodies, but not overdone. Phoenix slips off his shirt to pull the sweat on, and it fits comfortably over his skin.

He stretches his arms out and looks at the sleeves. It's been a long time since someone like this gave him a sweater as a present...

This time there's no monogrammed heart or strange game of bait-and-switch. He picks up the plush sheep and squeezes it, briefly startled when it makes a squeaky toy noise.

At the hug, Apollo nearly dropped the groceries, half in awe, half in concern. Clearly, things weren’t alright. If only Apollo knew what was wrong or how to deal with it. 

“Mr. Wright, what happened?” 

He wasn’t sure what else to do. Does he hug him back? Offer him some of the grape juice he just bought for him? Just stand here and let him… do whatever was happening? He’d never experience this coming from an employer… not like he had much experience, he’d only realized until after two years of working under the ‘Coolest Defense in the West’ that he wasn’t the best role model or boss after all. 

The hug steadied his nerves until his anxiety from the dream and other thoughts could come along, such as, How does someone this short even see over the bench? 

Apollo was barely bigger than Trucy. Maybe that’s why Phoenix reached for a hug so quickly. Nothing comforted him like embracing his own beloved daughter, and Apollo was a decent stand-in. Hearing that worried voice by his ear helped, too.

Okay, I’m probably freaking the kid out.

“…”

His shoulder takes the opposite wall,  a soft thump that barely reverberates sound, eyes that fall unfocused, lazy to address.

“ I figured your aim was different, being so direct with me. Don’t mean to ever corner you, no escape in sight.”

Even that small thump makes a nerve jump inside of Phoenix, easily triggered while he’s in this state of mind. Lang’s words speak deeply to him--the wolfman has hit directly on the former attorney’s stifled fears.

How would you describe your muse’s morality? What are their core values?

nick’s morals are a little more... flexible these days during his disbarment. principles like “always believe in your client” have fallen by the wayside; the vast majority of interactions he has with people comes in the form of poker games and whatever the hell he does with kristoph, so. he’s a lot more flexible and, uh, avoidant when it comes to telling the truth, too. being cryptic, deflective, and half-honest is his norm now and are very hard habits to break.

but at his core, phoenix’s morals are the same: seek truth and justice. support family. don’t hurt people.
