Holmes would wake Watson up flipped mattress or the sounds of a screeching violin. He would roll Watson off the bed or shake him gently -- it depends on the urgency of the situation.

Old Friends
Apparently there was no peace to be had, even in a book shop of the corner of no-one ever goes there. Unfortunate, but Eriq supposed he was living in a world with an ever increasing population of human beings and, as much as they frightened him, he’d have to clench his jaw and brave it.
Unfortunately, braving something was never his forte. He was the kind to retreat before the going even began to get tough.
So when someone collided into him, his instinctual reaction was just walk away and leave it at that. Then conversation could be avoided or worse, him having to apologise. Which he would have done anyway, it was habit.
Then that voice.

John broke out into a smile, his whole face lighting up with it. It had been a long time since he had thought about his friend from France. The last he'd heard from him he'd received a letter saying that he was getting married, and not long after that he'd been deployed and correspondence between them ceased.
He knew Eriq wasn't really one for being touched, so he resisted throwing his arms around the man as he normally might have found himself doing with other friends, but he took Eriq's hand for a shake at least and patted him on the arm, "It's good to see you, it's been too long."
"So, what brings you back to London?"
