Kane's Element

(3rd person POV)

This was the day that everything changed for everyone. It didn't seem like a day out of the ordinary however. That was the odd part… A small town, a village, that sat in the middle of this thick forest terrain seemed to wake up like normal. Everyone was out doing their jobs. Some shopping amongst the tiny market, others at work or staying at home with their families. They didn't know it yet, but all that peace was about to pause for a brief second as something both scary and legendary was brought right to them…

(Aliyah's POV)

I jolted when I was ripped from my deep sleep, feeling a huge weight come crashing up and down on my bed. By this point, I didn't even need to open my eyes. I knew for a fact it was Mona.

"Aliyah!! Wake up!" a female voice called distantly above me as the jumping on my bed continued. I couldn't help but groan and roll over slowly, pulling the covers above my head in doing so. It was so bright… Why couldn't she just wait until I woke up on my own? Mona jumped onto the bed harshly, ripping the covers off of me quickly as she called again.

"Aliyah, get up! They found it, they found the monster!" she excitedly stated as she shook my shoulder with excitement. The monster? I opened my green eyes, blinking a few times as I came to process what I heard the small blonde teen say. I quickly sat up and looked at her. Her blue eyes met with mine and I could tell… Mona wouldn't lie about something like that. It was a taboo in our community to even mention this beast unless it was to warn someone or it was very important.

"Are you sure they found it..?" I asked, watching my friend jump off my bed as I stood up and started getting dressed. I didn't care that she was in the room, in all honesty. Mona has been my friend since as long as I could remember. There weren't many people in this town, everyone knew everyone.

"I saw it, Ali! It's real! We have to hurry, they are putting it in the holding cell below the center fountain." Mona explained as I quickly threw on a baby blue crop top, dark grey shorts, my usual black choker necklace, a dark blue skirt, my dark grey knee high socks, and my shin high boots. I nervously nodded and thought as I put my curly frizzy hair up in a bun with a baby blue bow headband, leaving some of my bangs down and to the side.

I wouldn't admit it, but I was terrified to go to the center fountain… This beast was one of legends in our village. One that looked half human but seemed very far from it. There used to be old tales of these creatures living in this forest. But they were harmless. In fact, they were rather peaceful with our ancestors in the old stories. But when I was taken in as a kid, that's when this beast started to make its presence known to us. But trust me, this was not a good presence… We've lost so many good people to said monster. No one's ever really seen it and lived to tell the tales. But the beast seemed to disappear from the forest completely when I was a young teen…

"C'mon already, Aliyah!!" Mona raised her voice, grabbing my hand which snapped me out of my deep thoughts. I had to almost catch myself from how hard she dragged me out of my room, then out of my house.

This forest, no one but the bravest hunters dared to enter. But I could see where everyone was gathering… The center fountain. Everyone in the town was buzzing, running around a crowd of people as Mona had pushed our way to the front of this crowd.

"Stand back!" A tall hefty man yelled at everyone in front of us. But all I could focus on was the chains I saw first. These silver chains wrapped around the tall hunter and another's wrists firmly. They pulled and fought against their grip. As my eyes followed up the chain from their wrists, however, they led to a metal collar, the other man's chains leading to handcuffs in front of this creature's midsection.

At first, I didn't even fully realize what I was looking at. A tall man, almost 8ft tall, with long black hair and miscolored eyes. He fought against the chains on his wrists every now and again, flinching with visible frusration. But I couldn't stop looking at his eyes. One blue, the other green. At the moment, they were angry, or maybe just annoyed, with those chains. But when those eyes locked with my own, I felt myself freeze and my body tense.

(Kane's POV)

Looking down at a small teenage girl, I tilted my head curiously slightly. What the hell was her deal? Everyone else was yelling or pointing, meanwhile this doll was just standing there and staring. Her big green eyes met with mine and I paused, blinking a few times before I was snapped out of my thought process when the human man holding the collar chain yanked it harshly, trying to get a fight out of me. So it's showmanship they want, huh? I felt myself hissed at him, almost like a cat, my full mouth of sharp teeth being shown to everyone in the crowd. I heard all the gasps and glanced over, seeing the girl from earlier take a step back before her eyes trailed down to my black snake-like tail.

But as I looked at the crowd, I saw a small toddler in the front row, clinging to a woman's long dress next to him who I assume was his mother. My body untensed a little slowly, realising how scared this child was.

"What the hell is it?" the lady yelled in question, her clutching onto her little toddler son. I felt both men holding the chains held them tighter as the tall one stepped forward.

"This is the monster. The beast we tell tales of. They say it is able to swallow people in one bite! This is the being we have lost people in our village to years ago!" He yelled, motioning towards me as I growled lowly in response. Just hearing him talk about my past actions made me nauseous…

(3rd person POV)

Hearing this, Aliyah rubbed one of her arms, letting go of Mona's hand.

"But he's so beautiful..." she quietly mumbled, causing Mona to look at her friend like she was crazy.

"How can you find that beautiful? It's a monster, Ali… It'd probably eat you if you got too close anyways." she shook her head and gestured to the tall being. Aliyah couldn't help but nod in agreement slightly, choosing to listen to her friend. It was probably for the best she did, at least for now.

"He would, wouldn't he? I guess you're right, Mona…" she sighed and looked at the creature one more time before they slowly left the crowd hand in hand once again.

Night soon fell, and with that, everyone left while the creature was put away in the underground cell in the town's center. But of course, Aliyah couldn't stop thinking about it as she sat on her bed with her legs crossed… He didn't seem that dangerous but then again, he was chained. She kept thinking about the way he looked at her with such curiosity. What would cause a monster to be curious of her?

(Aliyah's POV)

I just couldn't take it anymore. I had to go find him and see for herself. What if Mona and the town's people were wrong? I sighed and stood up from my bed, sneaking out of my room, out of my home, and into the town center quietly. I finally reached the holding cell, looking down through the bars of the cell door beneath her and once again, I saw him. The same creature from before. Only difference now, he was curled up in a corner, his long tail wrapped around him. From this distance, I could see that he was still chained by his neck, but this time the chain led to a metal plate on the stone wall.

"Hey... Psst..." I whispered, almost calling him like I would a cat. I had no clue if this creature could talk but I had to try to get his attention. Slowly, I decided to stick my arm through the bars, waving and continuing my calls.

"If you really think calling me like that is going to get you anywhere, I'll tell you right now that it's not… I am not an animal." a low gruff voice echoed from within the cell below me, startling me as it rang out. I froze and paused quietly, blinking as I pulled my arm out.

"You can talk?" I accidentally thought out loud, not realizing how dumb it sounded. The voice scoffed but before I could process that the sound I heard was the chains shifting, I realized the curled up figure was no longer in the corner. I panicked slightly, following the wall chain before suddenly seeing his freckled face pop up right in front of mine. He was right under the bars in front of me, causing me to quickly gasp and back up before looking down at him nervously. I saw him squinting at me slightly from this distance, seeming to be judging me silently.

"You're that girl who was staring at me earlier… Correct?" he asked, tilting his head slightly, dropping his squint. I nodded slightly after thinking before looking down at him closely. From here, I could really tell how tall he actually was. In fact... He almost seemed taller? Was that possible?

(Kane's POV)

"I-I didn't mean to stare. It was just your eyes... I've never seen someone with different colored eyes before." the girl mumbled, looking back down at me through the metal bars. I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scoffed once more. This doll really thought I was dumb, didn't she?

"I know why you were staring. Everyone in that crowd was too. I'm that monster you and this stupid little town fear, right? But then again… No one else was able to look me in the eyes…" I thought out loud, looking over her as I inspected her every move.

"Well, I'm not scared of you." she spoke up. I could tell she was holding her breath slightly after she realised what she just said to me. I raised an eyebrow at her before wrapping my tail suddenly around her arm, pulling it into the barred cell door to be in with me. Her body was dragged down against the cell bars, her face now inches away from my own. She yelped and that's when I noticed her start shaking, looking down at me with a scared expression when I smirked.

"Yeah... Really brave, huh?" I sarcastically stated, my tail letting her go slowly. The teen girl quickly pulled her arm out of the cell and held it close to her. To this, I rolled my eyes again before starting to move away from the door.

"Wait! Um... I-I don't think you deserve to be locked up. You don't seem like that monster everyone tells us about… You haven't tried to eat me yet, so... Doesn't that prove it?" she asked me as I turned back around to look up at her, our eyes locking once more.

"You have no idea what I am." I blankly stated, smirking a little as I went back to the corner like before, curling up in my own coils. She was playing the brave card, I knew that now. But I could tell she was just like everyone else in this village.

I heard her sigh from a distance. I glanced up, watching her look in another direction in thought before walking away. Seeing this, I just simply closed my eyes, thinking she finally got the hint to leave. But hearing a loud click and the cell door creaking open, I opened my eyes and lifted my head, looking up at the now open door. But I couldn't help but tilt my head slightly as I watched the human try to climb down. Was she this stupid to try to get into a barred cell with me?

From this, I could tell she didn't plan this through as she hung there, almost 6ft off the ground from the opening. But when I saw her start to drop down, I felt my heart skip a beat and my tail instinctively caught her and held onto her, wrapping around her. I blinked, not fully knowing why I did that… I felt her shaking slightly against my coils while I smirked a little, slowly letting her go and putting her on her feet. The girl looked up at me, her green eyes widen at the sight of me. From this short distance, I now could see how much smaller she really was. She had to be almost 3ft shorter…

"So what now?" I squinted, snapping out of my thoughts as I lowered my face down to her height.

"Now you're trapped in here with a monster." I smirked more, my tail flickering as my stomach growled loudly. There was no doubt she heard that growl however. But even if my instincts told me to eat her, I felt my mouth water, but she was my ticket out of this cell…

"I-I know! I-I just need to take that collar off..." she stuttered, pointing to the metal collar around my neck. Realizing she was right, I sighed and lowered down for her. Her arms nervously and cautiously wrapped around my neck as she felt around for the switch on the back of the collar.

"I never asked but... Do you have a name? Mine's Aliyah." she asked me quietly, seeming curious. I stayed quiet, however, before feeling the collar click and the metal collar snap off from around my neck. Aliyah. In the back of my mind, I thought of how pretty that name was. But this thought quickly was pushed back as I grabbed her with my tail and pulled us both up and out of the underground cell. But when we were out, I kept a tight hold of her, staring down at her from my height.

"U-Uh... What's wrong?" she asked nervously, obviously trying to show concern. But when I felt her start shaking, my mouth began to water again. I couldn't help it… I looked back down at her and smirked.

"My name's Kane, by the way. But like you really need to know that." I chuckled and licked her cheek. It was sweet… Almost like chocolate. It didn't help my hunger problem. All it did was make it worse in fact… I felt her struggle and whimpering against me.

"B-But I freed you!" Aliyah protested, trying to get free but it was no use. I had a tight grip on her, but not so tight that she couldn't breathe.

"Yes, but it is a long way back to my cave and I'm basically starved." I chuckled again and licked more. But then I felt and watched the small girl go limp in my tails grip. Tilting my head at this, I was honestly confused as I thought. Did she really pass out?

"Tsk.. Pathetic..." I scoffed, rolling my eyes as I slithered into the forest, leaving the area of her small town. But looking at her, she really was helpless, even before this. She's so small compared to me. So fragile… Thinking about that, I sighed and ran a hand through my long hair. Time to get this over with… Shifting my form, I expanded myself big enough that her small form was able to fit in my clawed hand when my tail passed her along. So small…

From this angle, I really saw how fragile she was. I could crush her in an instant if I really wanted to. But for some reason, my instincts told me otherwise. I licked her again rather gently, now covering most of her body in slick liquid. A soft purr came from my chest as I slipped her into my maw. I made sure to have her avoid my teeth before gently gulping her body down.

The night was quiet here. Other than Kane's soft breathes and occasional sigh as he slept, crickets and frogs chirped in Aliyah's ears. It was usually like this; Kane would fall asleep first and she'd be the only one left awake due to her insomnia.

She didn't mind it however. Kane was a pretty light sleeper so she knew if anything were to happen, he'd probably sense it before her.

Kane was laying down, his tail curled around the both of them on the giant pile of furs. He was laying on his side with his hands slightly covering his face, Aliyah laying down on her side as well to face him.

But as she looked at him, her eyes drifted to his hands.. She admired how his hands faded from his dark grey color to the pale skin tone she loved. his claws were sharp but Kane knew how to keep them safely around her.

His hands were rough and worn, but Aliyah knew they were surprisingly gentle and soft with her in previous scenarios. She had never really paid attention to his hands however.. Even though she had found herself being held or sitting in his palm many times before.

While staring at them, Aliyah couldn't help but reach both of her hands out and gently hold one of his own. Seeing this, however, made her realize just how much smaller she was compared to his normal and preferred size. What she didn't notice though was that when she held his hand in her's, Kane slowly started to wake up and opened his eyes to look at her.

There was no doubt in Kane's mind... Aliyah was a strange human. He loved her but things she did were just odd to him. It was the middle of the night and she still wasn't sleeping. Instead, she was analyzing his one hand.

"Having fun, little one?" His deep voice echoed, making Aliyah nearly jump out of her skin and she took a huge breath in response, covering her face with both hands.

"Jesus... I, uh.. I was just looking. I'm sorry, you can go back to sleep." She explained softly, calming down slowly from the previous jumpscare. Kane heard and rolled his eyes, sitting up and looking at the hand she was holding.

"Looking for what?" He paused and asked, not seeing what she had been so fasinated with before. Aliyah froze and thought before shrugging her shoulders.

"I.. I guess I just have never paid attention to your hands. It's weird to think that I find myself sitting in your palm all the time and yet with you like this, I can have your hand in both of mine." She rambled, rubbing the back of her neck as she sat up as well in front of him. Kane blinked a few times before looking back down at his own hands once again.

"Do you.. Like me holding you?" He asked hesitantly, thinking he knew the answer but was slightly scared Aliyah could blinkside him with a different one. She smiled softly and looked up at him as she took the one hand in both of her's once again.

"More than anything." Aliyah giggled as her partner and friend let out a huge sigh in relief. The tall Naga thought to himself however and before she could process what he was doing, Kane had grown into a larger form and scooped her up into one of his hands.

He smiled down at her once Aliyah realized where she was. Kane couldn't help it.. He loved holding her too. It felt nice for such a small fragile being to trust him enough with basically their life. Especially in as big of a form as the one he was in now. Aliyah was no bigger than his clawed index finger.

"I love you.. You know that?" Kane asked softly, bringing her up to his face and nuzzling her small midsection with his freckled cat like nose. Aliyah giggled before putting her arms around it and looking up at his miscolored slitted eyes.

"I know. I love you too, big guy." She smiled. Kane saw and it was if his instincts took over, quickly but carefully slipping her into his maw, and gulping her down almost instantly.

He sighed in a bit of satisfaction as she decended and as he felt her enter his gut. Loud deep purrs erupted around Aliyah once she got comfy and she couldn't help but smile while she patted the wall next to her.

Kane felt and semi snapped out of his instinctual trace, realizing what he just did. But he wasn't sorry, nor would he apologize to her for his actions.

"I guess you're stuck with me until morning." Kane chuckled, patting his stomach. There was no answer, making him confirm that Aliyah was already starting to doze off, most likely from staying up so late. He smirked before laying down and curling himself up before closing his eyes as well...

Kane growled as the sound grew closer, his tail slowly wrapping around Aliyah's waist. Aliyah felt and looked up at him from behind.

"W-What is it?" She asked quietly, nervous by the tall Naga's shift in nature.

"I don't know. Stay here." He ordered, unwrapping his tail from around her and slowly making his way towards the enterance. Going just outside the cave where he left Aliyah, Kane went towards the rustling, growling lowly before a roughed up Mona tripped over her own feet, coming out of the bushes in front of him and landing on her face in the grass.

Seeing this, he paused, instantly dropping his growl and his guard.

"Mona? What are you doing this far out?" He snapped, clearly thinking she was stupid for having traveled so far from her village. Mona groaned before freezing in place as she sat up. Hearing Kane's low gruff voice, she shot up and blinked at him, causing the tall being to raise a brow in response.

"You..." She suddenly mumbled, seeming rather angry with him. Kane tilted his head slightly, not understanding the sudden mood change. In an instant, Mona lounged at Kane and clung onto his arm, trying to pull him down.

"You lied to me!! You said you could never hurt Aliyah! It was all just some cat and mouse game, wasn't it?!" She yelled, scolding him as Kane paused. Oh yeah. He'd forgotten Mona saw him swallow Aliyah earlier.

Kane thought before pushing Mona down with one swift motion, knocking her back down to the ground.

"I didn't hurt her. I did not lie." He said sternly, sighing and motioning for the blonde girl to follow him as he started to head back to the cave.

"W-What? But I saw yo-"

"Again. I did not harm her. I told you I couldn't and that was the truth. There are things in our anatomy that set you simple humans and us elaborate Nagas apart." He looked back at her as she trailed behind him from a safe distance, cutting her off midsentence. Mona rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.

"Yeah, right.. This is probably just another trick for you to get a free meal!" She snapped, making Kane growl to himself before they went into the cave. He stopped halfway and crossed his arms at Mona.

"That proof enough for you, brat?" He scoffed, motioning over to a peacefully sleeping Aliyah. Mona froze before tearing up, running over to her friend and gently shaking her awake.

Aliyah hummed softly, opening her eyes before blinking twice, wonderibg if her friend really was there. But before she could say anything, she had Mona's arms wrapped tightly around her, crying into her shoulder softly as Aliyah hugged back with a concerned look.

"Mona? What is-

"I-I thought you were dead! For real this time! How did you.. How are you.." Her friend sniffled, pulling away and wiping her nose on her own red sweater sleeve. Aliyah smiled and looked at Kane who still had his arms crossed.

"Kane would never hurt me, Mona. He was just setting up the scenario for the village and protecting me." She explained while gently wiping her friends tears.

"I told you. There are anatomy differences between creatures like me and you guys." Kane spoke up, finally coming over and sitting down next to Aliyah. Mona sniffed before looking up at him.

"L-Like what? How could that be safe?" She asked, not finding a single logical thought that would make a stomach safe for anyone or anything.

"It's a pretty simple concept to explain.. Female Nagas, obviously like snakes, lay their youngs in egg form. Male Nagas, like me, are built with two stomachs. An actual one in our tails for food, and a pouch where we can hold our young either before or after they hatch to keep them warm. It just happens to be placed where your human stomachs are... I simply used the pouch for storage during travel until Aliyah." He explained, running a hand through his hair before looking at Aliyah who nodded and smiled. Mona blinked, glancing at his tail before sighing and looking back at her friend.

"You're sure about this..?" Mona asked quietly, to which Aliyah nodded and smiled again.

"You have to think.. I've had Aliyah with me for almost a week. If I wanted to harm her, I would have." Kane told her sternly once more, trying to get his point across. Mona sighed and nodded, realizing he did have a point even if she didn't fully trust him yet.

"So.. You aren't coming back to the village, I assume? After what happened?" She asked, looking at Aliyah who nodded and rubbed the back of her neck.

"I can't.. That's why we did what we did. So I didn't have to go back and risk Kane being hunted again." She explained as Kane nodded. Mona groaned and facepalmed before running a hand through her hair stressfully.

"Well.. Will you at least still be here if I come back?"

"Should be. Unless someone out for him finds this place again..." Aliyah sighed. Mona nodded a bit before standing up and brushing herself off.

"Well.. I guess I'll head back. Please just be careful..?" She asked, looking at them as both Aliyah and Kane nodded in agreement. Mona nodded before leaving, her red sweater and bright blonde hair fading from view of the cave. Seeing this, Kane sighed and looked down a little. Aliyah saw and tilted her head slightly, a concerned look washing over her freckled face.

"What is it..?" She quietly asked, placing a hand on his tail ever so slightly. It was slight enough to not make him jolt but he did notice it nonetheless.

"Just.. I guess just mad at my younger self. But then again, even if I had different actions back then, I'd still be seen as a monster for 'this'." He snapped, gesturing a hand to his tail and claws. Aliyah frowned and thought before standing up, putting her hands on her hips.

"You know what? Maybe you are a monster. But you don't act like one. And that's good enough for me!" She confidently stated, holding her head up high as she talked. Kane smiled slightly at this and crossed his arms, nodding. Thinking, Aliyah paused, her arms dropping to her sides slowly. Noticing, he perked his head up and grew a confused look on his face.

"What if.. We found another village or maybe even a town. You have a human form, Kane! You could start fresh!" She exclaimed excitedly but the face of disgust Kane gave said it all.

"I'm not human, Aliyah. Plus, that human form is just a disguise. It's like people being in heels, I can't just stay in that form, it's hard to do for even an hour." Aliyah slowly frowned and thought more.

"I guess you have a point.. Maybe we could live around one then? Only go into the village or town if we really have to? Listen... I just want to be far away from my old village. As much as I love Mona, she doesn't need all this and we don't want you to be hunted anymore." Aliyah said, rubbing the back of her neck.

Kane thought about it for a few moments. Would it really be better to run away from all this? Staying and fighting appealed more to his nature but he knew Aliyah would try to stop him the second his mood switched up. Nodding slightly, all he could do was mumble simple and small.

"Fine..."

I love your writing/characters/art tho. Seriously. And your character design is gorgeous and original and just very much yes.

Thank you so much!! Moving with a kid is hard work but I'm so happy we got it done and I can continue working on my babes (yes, my ocs are my babes lol) 🖤 But that means a lot that people like their designs!!! I spent almost a year remaking their old designs over and over until I finally got happy with them as a whole 😭 especially Kane.. Sorry, but that man was hard to be pleased with at first rip he's still so hard to draw sometimes 💀

(A/N: I had a thought.. What if Kane and Aliyah ever had a kid? So just out of curiousity, I made one! I introduce you to their son, Saige 🖤🖤 He's human genetically but has inherited some traits of his Naga dad like his ears, teeth, claws, nose, and hand/feet markings!! I picture him being around 1 or 2 years old in this drawing, I think he'd just be slightly tall as a human 😭 not as tall as his dad though thankfully, even if he wants to be!)

Kane gently reached his huge arm into the mouth of his old cave, it being just big enough for his huge form to fit his hand in. He pulled out the huge pile of furs in one hand and thought.

"You okay with having these in there with you for now?" Kane asked softly, patting where she was to get her attention. Aliyah nodded and patted the wall behind her back in response.

"Yeah, I am. Do you know where we're going?" She asked, a bit of nervousness in her tone. Kane gently placed a few furs in his mouth and swallowed a few at a time until they all joined his friend. Aliyah leaned up against these furs and listened as Kane's frusrated voice spoke up around her.

"Not yet.. If those bastards never found this cave earlier, we wouldn't have to leave." He growled, starting to slither off in a random direction away from Aliyah's village.

Although he mumbled the last sentence, she could hear every word he said from her position. Frowning, Aliyah gently reached over and rubbed the wall next to her.

"I'm sorry I'm causing all this trouble for you, Kane..." But hearing his friend say this, he stopped dead in his tracks before gently spitting her out into his hands. Confusedly, she looked at her surroundings before up at him even more in question as to what she was doing out.

"Don't you dare say that all this is your fault." He snapped at her, his multicolored eyes fixated down at her small form. Aliyah flinched slightly but knew that his snapping was out of care.

"B-But.. You could've just left me at the village and you'd have your old life!" She protested before Kane growled.

"I don't want that! I want you here, I could care less about that stupid old cave as long as you're here. If I didn't want you with me, don't you think I would have left you myself? All I care about is you!" He paused after realizing what he said, seeing a small blush form on Aliyah's face which sparked one to form on himself.

"I-I mean.." He stuttered before face palming himself slightly. Kane froze however, feeling Aliyah stand up in his other hand, looking over at her curiously. Aliyah was fidgetting with her own hands, nervously looking up at him.

"Y-You don't.. I mean.." She stuttered but Kane knew what she was asking. Quickly he cut her off and continued in his path, holding her up against his chest.

"Let's just talk about this when we find a new place?" He asked, slightly hoping she would end up forgetting everything that was said by the time they found someplace. Aliyah slightly nodded and curled up against him, closing her eyes as she felt heat resinate off her friend.

After some time, Kane slowed down, finally seeing a cave nearby. Sighing in relief, he then looked down at his hand that cupped gently around Aliyah who seemed to be sleeping against his chest. Smiling to himself, he gently spit up the furs and sat them outside the cave before shrinking himself down to his normal size. He managed to carry Aliyah in one arm while grabbing a few furs in the other, before moving in, laying them down, and carefully laying her down next.

Looking down at her, Kane couldn't help but purr slightly, moving a piece of her bangs to the side and out of her face. But while moving the rest of the furs into a seperate pile, Aliyah shivered as the air clung to her wet clothes and freckled skin.

Kane seemed to notice and stop quickly what he was doing, moving over and curling around his friend. In her sleep, she nuzzled into his tail as he smiled, turning his attention then to the opening on the cave.

About an hour later, Aliyah stirred and stretched, rubbing her eyes afterwards before opening them. Her clothes now being dry, Kane's form was no longer around her like he previously was. Instead, Aliyah saw him on a seperate pile of furs next to her, him leaning against the stone wall with his eyes fixated on the cave enterance.

She slowly sat up and looked over at him. He seemed to not even notice her movements as he was lost in his own thoughts.

"Kane?" Aliyah spoke up quietly, causing him to snap out of his trance and his gaze shot over to her small form. He sat up more before coming over quietly and gently wrapping himself around her.

"Hm?" He hummed, that being the only response she got. Thinking, Aliyah decided to turn around, now facing him and looking up at the tall creature who was behind her. Kane saw this and raised a brow, tilting his head as he looked down at her.

"Do you like me?" She asked straight up. Kane felt his face get hot, a huge blush forming as he froze in place. He looked her over to try to tell if she was joking but Aliyah's face spelled nothing but serious.

"W-What? Why do you ask..?" He stuttered, his tail twitching slightly as his manner grew more nervous by the second. Aliyah noticed and waved her arms in protest.

"N-No, no! It's okay if you do, I just.. Some things you do and say make me suspect you might.. You protect me without even thinking twice, you say things like what you said earlier, you do everything to keep me safe, and you treat everyone like your gruff self but you're so gentle with me. I-I guess I was just curious..." Kane watched Aliyah rub the back of her neck as she explained, blushing slightly herself.

He found himself too frozen to speak as he thought. Did Mona say something? Or did Aliyah just happen to catch on to his nature so quickly? Taking a deep breath, Kane messed with a piece of his own hair nervously.

"Fine.. I guess I might..." He mumbled, looking down at his hair he was nervously twirling in his hands. Aliyah paused and looked up at him before placing a hand on his to stop his scared fidgetting. He stopped, looking down at her hand before glancing back towards her face.

"See? It's okay." She smiled, showing him he didn't have to worry. Kane let out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding in, smiling slightly back and nodding.

"I guess it is." He chuckled softly as Aliyah hugged him around his neck suddenly.

Purrs erupted from chest as he hugged her back before he paused, hearing something snap outside the cave. Quickly, Kane moved so his tall form was in front if Aliyah's small one, growling as he glared towards the cave mouth...

Aliyah opened her eyes slowly, squinting as the morning sun peered into the den. Yawning, the young girl sat up, stretching before pausing and looking towards the enterance.

There, leaned up against the den wall, was Kane. From what she could tell, he was very much asleep. She knew he said he was going to guard the place while she got some much needed sleep, but who was to tell when he had finally ended up caving in to his own tiredness..

Frowning, Aliyah pulled herself to her feet and brushed herself off as she quietly walked over to his tall sleeping form. But being as gentle as she could possibly be, she carefully placed a small hand on his arm.

From this distance, Aliyah could see the bags under his eyes very clearly. She knew he never was really much of a sleeper to begin with but since she arrived, Kane was more adament about staying up as long as possible to make sure she was safe. It worried her but she had tried to share her concern before, only for her huge friend to get rather defensive and deny everything she knew to be true.

Aliyah looked up at him once more and gently shook his arm where her hand was placed. But within the span one second, Kane's eyes shot open and he jolted, growling and pinning her down on the cold stone floor. As quickly as it happened, he seemed to snap out of his sudden anger, seeing a startled Aliyah laying under him with his hands holding her wrists down to the ground. He sighed and gently let go of her, sitting back up and holding the bridge of his nose in a bit of frustration.

"Shouldn't you be sleeping? It's barely dawn, Ali..." He mumbled, his voice deeper from having just woken up. Aliyah stumbled to her feet quickly, blushing rather embarrassedly as she rubbed her wrists.

"But.. S-Shouldn't you be too..? I just wanted to ask if you wanted to switch.. Maybe I could stand watch instead of yo-"

"No." Kane interupted, holding a hand up to stop her from talking but seeing this, Aliyah just grabbed his hand and pulled it down.

"But, Kane, I know you're exhausted!!" She protested before looking down to see that his black tail quickly wrapped around her waist. Kane sighed and ran a hand through his long hair, looking down at his smaller friend. He could tell she wouldn't drop this. She rarely did when she got something in her mind. He knew her to be stubborn in that way, even if he didn't mind it very much.

"If I go to sleep, will you be happy?" Kane seemingly gave in, crossing his arms over his chest. Aliyah smiled and nodded, subconciously rubbing a hand over his tail. But when she yawned, she shook her head, trying to snap out of it quickly. Kane noticed and smiled slightly, bringing her over to the fur pile and laying her down.

"Y'know.. If you put me in there, we both could sleep.." She sleepily mumbled, pointing to his stomach enough for him to notice. Kane heard and paused, looking down at her before chuckling a little.

"Yes, but as much as I'd love to endulge, you do take a lot of energy to swallow." He laid down and curled around her gently, taking his hand and pulling her bangs out from over her eyes.

"Plus, I think I'd much rather have you right here for now. I'll still sleep, even if you do, I promise.." Kane added, purring as she started sleepily braiding a strand of his long hair. Aliyah smiled softly and yawned once more, starting to doze off as she braided.

Kane noticed and smiled a bit more himself, gently taking her hands off his hair and placing them down softly as to not wake her again, but also so Aliyah didn't start accidentally pulling his hair when she fell asleep. But letting out a small yawn himself, Kane too started to fall asleep as he curled around the small girl more.

Some nights, he couldn't help but rather have her out with him than tucked away, as nice as that felt too...

Aliyah sighed, looking down at the cave floor, studying her chalk drawing she had been working on the past few hours. It didn't look quite how she imagined.

Suddenly, the small human felt a warm gust of air blow over her from behind. Knowing it was Kane, she looked back and up at him from her seat, smiling seeing he had made himself bigger so he could lay down on his chest behind Aliyah.

"What's up?" Kane didn't respond, instead just gently licking her back. Giggling, Aliyah looked back with a brow raised curiously, hearing him purr lowly from his chest while he smirked.

"H-Hey! Kane, what was that for?" She asked once again, reaching up and putting her hand on his bottom lip.

"Just because I can, little snack." He chuckled and stuck out his tongue, wrapping it around her hand that had been on his lower lip, dragging it gently into his maw before carefully closing it around her arm.

Aliyah paused and looked up at him, smiling softly and blushing a little as she softly moved her hand over his tongue. It was warm and she could feel it gentle lick over what was in his mouth. His purrs grew louder as he closed his eyes, relaxing from her rubbing.

Aliyah giggled a bit to herself. Kane was so gentle and sweet with her compared to him being rather emotionless and cold towards other people.. She couldn't help but think of him as a giant kitten when she got him purring like this.

Hearing that his breathing slowed, she could tell he must've dozed off. Sighing, she carefully pulled her arm out of his mouth and stood up.

"Get some rest, big guy." Aliyah whispered, patting his nose before placing a small kiss on the end of it. He needed this...

Mona watched as Kane thought, thinking to herself before speaking up a little.

"You don't have to worry.. I won't spill your secret." Kane paused hearing this and looked at Aliyah's friend, a bit surprised she could go from pointing a kitchen knife at him to keeping his feelings a secret.

"Anyways... Are you the monster from the stories or no? I-I'm only curious because you seem more.. chill than the actual stories I've heard." Mona explained, looking up at him. Hearing this, he squinted in a bit of annoyance but sighed, looking away from her.

"I am but... The stories are from when I was younger and stupider." He rubbed the back of his neck before Mona scooched closer, like a kid ready for storytime. He noticed and groaned a little before nodding.

"Fine.. Tell me, what stories of me have you heard?" He asked, raising a brow and Mona paused hearing this.

"Well... Multiple, really.. About the beast swallowing people and whole never to be seen again mostly..." She nervously fidgetted with her hands, looking down as she spoke rather quietly. Kane thought to himself before running a hand through his hair.

"Yeah.. When I was younger, I was dumb and reckless. I could have cared less about who I ate, who I ended in general... Human's had turned their back on me so I did the same. They hunted me, so I hunted them. I thought it was fair at the time, in all honesty.. But as I got older and it started seeming less fun, I took things more seriously. I usually just hunt animals now. But like I said, I wouldn't hesitate to end someone if they hurt Aliyah..." He explained, slightly embarrassed by his story. The creature in front of her obviously wasn't proud of his actions, but Mona was surprised he was even willing to explain anything to her.

Both Kane and Mona froze though as Aliyah came onto the room, leaning against the door frame with a smile.

"Look at my two friends getting along... Anyways, foods done!" She giggled as Kane's tail wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer. Mona stood up, brushing herself off before leaving into the kitchen.

Aliyah noticed and looked up at Kane. He waited until Mona was gone to look down at her, a small smile forming on his mouth.

"What'd you two talk about?" She asked, having noticed that they both went silent when she came into the room earlier. Kane froze before rubbing the back of his neck.

"Listen, Aliyah.. Those stories your people tell.. They are true. But.. They're all from when I was young and I-" He was cut off by the small human hugging him around his neck. He couldn't help but blink a few times before slowly hugging back.

"I already figured." She whispered and giggled while pulling away. Kane blinked again, seemingly in shock that she guessed but still treated him the same. Aliyah stood up and grabbed Kane's hand as he got up to full height as well.

"Come on, foods done. Wanna try some?" She asked, looking up to see him nod and the led him into the kitchen behind her. There, both of them saw Mona putting 3 full bowls of soup on the table, one on one side and two on the other side.

The smell washed over Kane and the tall naga curiously slithered over to the table, his mouth watering. Aliyah and Mona both sat down, Kane doing the same once seeing them. He eyed the bowl in front of him, curiously tilting his head at it. The soup was full of what seemed to be carrots, potatoes, and roast beef.

He looked over at Aliyah, seeing her eat a soupful and smile up at him once again. Copying her, he took a bite from his own spoon and paused. He purred from how good it was before eating the rest.

Mona watched from the other side of the table before smiling, glad he enjoyed it. But as he opened her mouth for another bite, all three froze as someone knocked on the front door.

Kane stood up and growled at the door before Aliyah stepped in front of him, her arms out. His growl face dropped, looking at her confusedly, Mona standing up as well.

"Just hide. We'll be fine." Aliyah frowned, knowing this would make him upset but he knew she was right. Sighing, he thought before growling angerily at the only idea he had.

Aliyah and Mona unlocked the door and opened it, the tall men from before forcing their way inside.

"H-Hey, what's the big deal?!" Mona stepped in front of the men and crossed her arms.

"We're checking all the houses. Since Aliyah is back, we have to make sure that thing didn't come back to steal anyone else." He scoffed, forcing his way past the teenager and both men began searching around.

"I don't recall these young girls giving you two men permission to go through their belongings." A low voice remarked, making all 4 humans quickly look up to see Kane.

Mona and Aliyah froze, seeing him. He was different... His snake tail was gone, two legs in a pair of black jeans replacing it with sneakers. His arms were crossed over his chest which was covered by a grey t-shirt and a black leather jacket. His hair, eyes, and nails were all the same. But instead of his shiny scaled freckles, normal freckles replaced them. Instead of his cat like nose, it was replaced with a more normal one. He was still tall as tall as before, still almost 8ft as he loomed in the doorway he was leaned against, glaring at the two men.

"It's a mandatory order from the village's council members. It's for everyone's safety." One spoke up, both looking up at him.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I guess you didn't understand me. I meant that if those girls didn't give permission, get out. Now." He scoofed, talking a few steps towards the two, anger rolling off him which made the men back up.

"F-Fine.." The other rolled his eyes, both leaving while shooting Mona glares. Aliyah shut the door behind them before quickly turning to Kane, still confused on what he did.

"W-What happened? How'd you do that?" She asked, walking up to him. Kane smirked before he shifted back into his normal form, ruffling her hair a little.

"I have a human form. I just hate using it. I only used it to scare those men off." He winked at Mona who smiled and mouthed a 'thank you' while she placed a hand on Aliyah's shoulder. She assumed this would be Kane taking her back soon.

"Ali, you will come visit every once and awhile, right..?" Mona nervously asked, obviously scared she wouldn't see her again if she left. Aliyah giggled and hugged her friend before pulling away.

"I promise I will." Kane smiled slightly as Aliyah opened the door, grabbing his hand to lead her tall friend outside after not seeing anyone near.

But as soon as Kane came out, he heard whispering, looking around before he made eye contact with a shiny reflection from a tranquilizer gun hiding in the nearby trees. In a second, Kane made himself grow in size, growling as his tail picked up Aliyah. She didn't question what he was doing however, knowing he could hear and see way better than humans like her.

His tail passed her off into his hand, which held her close to his chest protectively. Just then, Aliyah saw the same men from before jump out on either side of him.

"Put her down, beast!" One yelled, making Kane hissed like a cat just like the first time Aliyah saw him in the town center. She looked down at Mona who looked up at Kane, scared of his sudden size but also because he was holding her friend.

"K-Kane?" Aliyah placed a hand on his that was holding her, making him look down at her. She knew what he had to do. Sighing, he nodded and gently licked her a few times, causing her to giggle at the ticklish feeling before he gently placed her in his maw and carefully swallowed her down.

Mona watched in horror before making eye contact with Kane. He frowned before quickly slithering into the forest, a hand over his stomach.

"That was a reckless plan, Ali..." He shook his head but purred as Kane felt her rub the wall in front of her.

"I know.. But it was the only way. This way they'll think I'm gone, we can't go back now. I just hope Mona somehow will find out where we are..." Aliyah frowned, hugging her legs to her chest. But she untensed as she felt Kane rub where she was through her surroundings.

"I'm sure she will.. Meanwhile, we have to move our stuff out of the den. They found you there, so they know I lived there." He growled and ran a hand through his hair in a stressed manner, reaching the mouth of his den. This was the only place he's ever known. But leaving it meant nothing as long as his small friend was safe...

Aliyah found herself staring at Kane's features, lost in her own thoughts. The tall being was also in his own world, sitting down with his back leaned up against the wall, looking down at a book Aliyah had given him a few weeks ago.

She remembered learning that he'd never touched one, it having slightly offended her as she was obsessed with reading herself...

But as Aliyah stared, her eyes went from his hair, down to his eyes, then finally down at his mouth. She'd never really paid attention to it, despite all the times she has found herself sitting inside when he chose to indulge. Kane glanced up and over at her from his book, having felt her eyes on him and he raised a brow curiously. What could be so interesting that she'd be so lost in her own little world? He could tell Aliyah didn't even notice him looking at her.

Kane tried to piece it together before realizing where her eyes met. Smirking, he put down his book slowly before quickly picking her up and chuckling once she yelped, having been snapped out of her daydreaming.

Aliyah watched as she was held on his upper arm close to his shoulder, her eyes widening and a blush forming as he stuck his grey split tongue out at her.

"You were so confident staring before, so what changed?" Kane asked teasingly, his brow still raised as he pointed under his own tongue with a claw. Teasing her seemed to be his hobby at this point...

Aliyah slowly opened her eyes and blinked, seeing the sun rising and making its way into the cave mouth. She fully woke up to look down and see Kane's arms around her waist. It seemed like he calmed down in his sleep and reverted back to his normal size.

She smiled at this and gently tried to slide out of his hold but this made him groan in protest and hold her tighter. Sighing at first but then giggling, Aliyah patted one of his arms.

"Kane, you gotta let me go." But all he heard in response was another whine as he nuzzled onto her back.

"Noo.. Too early.. Go back to sleep..." The naga continued to protest before both Aliyah and Kane paused, hearing distant voices. This made him quickly snap awake and sit up, releasing the human from his earlier hold.

Eying the mouth of the cave, he moved in front of her in protection but froze as he saw 3 people come into view.

One Aliyah recognized as her previous friend Mona. The other 2 of the tall men that held Kane's chains in front of the village. He saw and growled before he felt Aliyah gently grab his wrist. Looking back at her in confusion, he saw her think before looking up at him.

"Just hide. I'll deal with them." She whispered, slightly panicked and she saw them noticed the cave. Kane heard and let out a whimper before listening to his human companion.

"Put me in your pocket. If they take you, they havw to take me, deal?" He nodded and having an idea, he shrunk himself in size. Aliyah smiled and gently let Kane wrap around her hand before she carefully slipped him into her pocket.

"Deal." She whispered before standing up fully and nervously walking outside to try to reason with her village mates.

As soon as Mona saw Aliyah she teared up and run up to her, tightly hugging her friend.

"Y-You're alive!! I told them you would be but I was scared they were right!" Aliyah froze before hugged her back with a small giggle.

"Why would I be dead, silly? I'm fine!" But her saying this made Mona pull apart and look up at Aliyah.

"B-But you were taken by that thing, w-weren't you..?" Mona asked, making her wince a bit at her friend using the word 'thing' to describe Kane.

"Well.. Yes, but-"

"Oh my gosh, we need to get you home! Everyone's gonna be so happy you're alive!" Mona cut her off and bounced a bit excitedly. The men had been looking at the cave before they came back out.

"Where is that beast anyways?" One of them asked, motioning back to the cave. Aliyah paused and shrugged her shoulders, slightly annoyed with these men as she remembered they're the ones that chained up Kane in the first place.

"How should I know?" Aliyah snapped a little, causing Kane to perk up slightly. This was the first time he's ever heard his friend use that tone. She was always so happy sounding, it was odd to hear anything opposite of that.

Mona sighed and held Aliyah's hand, guiding her back towards the village.

"C'mon.. We better head back. You can eat something at my place." She smiled but this made Aliyah think while following her. A warm meal did sound good.. Fruit was nice for now but not that filling.

Once entering Mona's cabin, Aliyah locked the door behind her and thought. No one had followed them in here. Aliyah nervously put her hands in her skirt pockets, feeling Kane wrap around her hand in response. He could tell that's what she wanted.

"H-Hey, Mona?" She began, sounding more nervous than ever. But Mona didn't seem to notice and she poured water in a pot, then setting it on a burner.

"What's up, Ali?" She asked, not looking at her friend while she pulled out some vegetables for the broth. Aliyah rubbed her thumb across Kane's tail, trying to aid her own nerves as she continued.

"I-If.. If I show you something.. You can not freak out. It has to stay between us, okay..?" Kane heard and knew where she was going with this. He couldn't stay in her pocket forever. Just like how Aliyah couldn't stay in the village forever. Hearing this, Mona paused from her gathering, putting the vegetables down on the counter and looking at Aliyah puzzledly.

"Yeah..? Ali, you're starting to make me nervous, what is it?" She asked hesitantly. Aliyah let out a breath she didn't know she was holding before walking into the other room.

"J-Just a second, I'll be right back.." Once in the other room, she took her hands out, Kane still wrapped before she put him down on the ground. This allowed him to grow back to his normal size, even though he had to duck his head a little bit as to not slam it into the ceiling.

"You sure about this?" He raised a brow and whispered in a questioning tone, clearly not trusting Aliyah's friend. She nodded and held one of his hands.

"I think it'll be okay." She nodded, trying to reassure Kane but the nervousness in her voice told him everything.

Aliyah lead him into the kitchen, letting him duck for the door frame. As he rose back up out of the door frame, Mona froze and started to back up in fear as he loomed over her. It didn't help that he was squinting his eyes slightly down at her either. Mona was about to scream before Aliyah quickly put a hand over her friend's mouth.

"Hey, shh, shh... Mona, it's okay. He's a friend. If I take my hand off, will you be chill..?" She calmly explained, making Mona look her in the eyes as she spoke. She nodded hesitantly, making Aliyah retract her hand slowly. But after this, Mona quickly pulled Aliyah's hand, pulling her away from Kane in an instantly as she grabbed the knife Mona was going to use for the vegetables.

"M-Mona, stop!!" Aliyah protested, trying to get her hand to let go of her wrist but to no avail. Mona had the knife pointed towards Kane who growled lowly, seeing that Aliyah was trying to get away.

"I-I didn't think it would follow you, Ali! We have to tell someone!" Mona said before Aliyah finally broke her grip, quickly rushing over to Kane's side and holding his hand.

"Mona, stop! I brought him.." This made her friend freeze and lower the knife slightly.

"W-What..? Why??" Mona asked confusedly, keeping her eye on Kane who got a smug look on his face when Aliyah said she brought him there.

"I told you he's a friend.. Mona, the stories are wrong. I mean.. Partially wrong.. But he's not a monster like how they say!" Aliyah tried to reason, causing Mona to sigh and set the knife down hesitantly, still keeping an eye on Kane.

"H-How do you know..?" Mona asked quietly but Aliyah smiled a little, seeing as her friend put down the kitchen knife.

"He protected me, Mo. He fed me, kept me safe, everything.." Aliyah stated, looking up at Kane who nodded and smiled slightly in response.

Mona ran a hand through her long blonde hair and sighed, thinking before nodding.

"Fine.. I'll believe it for now. Just.. Don't get in too over your head, Ali?" She whispered the last part, as if Kane wouldn't be able to hear with him standing right next to his friend. Aliyah smiled and nodded.

"I promise." Mo nodded at Aliyah promising before starting to cut up the vegetables for the soup, thinking as she slowed down. Kane, meanwhile, decided to look around the the room, looking at pictures that were hung, objects, flowers, and their surroundings.

"W-Will.. Will be even want to eat this?" She asked, making Aliyah think. She didn't really know what Kane liked.. She still wasn't exactly sure if he was strict carnivore or not.

"Um.. I-I'm actually not exactly sure.. Throw in some meat just to be safe but I'm sure he'd at least try it.." Aliyah wondered out loud, watching Kane take in his surroundings as he slithered through the room. But as Aliyah got an idea, she smiled and went over to Mona.

"Why don't I take over? Then you two can talk!" Hearing this, her friend nervously made eye contact with Kane and then rubbed the back of her neck.

"C-Can he even talk..?" She whispered, making Aliyah giggle in response. Kane heard obviously as he crossed his arms, raising a brow.

"Even if I was a monster, talking is a basic skill." He stated in a dull annoyed tone. Aliyah knew this was just how Kane was but Mona chalked it up to him being mad. All she could do was nod and go into the other room, Kane following as Aliyah smiled at him before tending to the soup her friend started.

Sitting with her legs crossed on the floor, Mona looked up at Kane who sat across from her, his arms still crossed.

"So.. W-What are you, if I might ask..? The stories of you just call you a 'snake beast' or demon.." Mona started. Kane could tell she was scared of him as he saw her eyes keep darting over him, making sure he didn't make a move. He scoffed and looked down at her.

"I'm a Naga. It's short for Nagini. Mysterious creatures that appear half snake, half human. Though I believe the human part is just for alluring..." He smirked, seeing her freeze as he then chuckled.

"But don't worry.." He told her, trying to make a decent first impression. Mona nodded nervously before thinking.

"So you're actually not going to hurt Ali.. Right?" She asked, making him growl slightly.

"I have no intention or even will to harm Aliyah. Nor did I ever plan to. Quite oppositely, if someone else were to hurt her, they'd be swallowed done in a second..." He hissed and looked away, frowning as he crossed his arms once more. Mona blinked a few times before smirking, looking up at him.

"If I didn't know any better.. I'd say you liked her." She raised a brow as Kane froze and thought. He panicked as he couldn't think of a response, finding himself stuttering over his words.

"W-Well.. I.." He didn't understand why he was stuttering, glancing back at Mona who giggled.

"Oh my god.. You do!" Kane paused and shook his head.

"I-I don't even know what your basic human emotions would feel like!" He protested, trying to aid the situation he was in. Did he..? He couldn't help but think maybe that was the reason he wasn't able to harm the human before...
