Amends (An Unexpected Result)
This takes place after 268 but before the White Day side-chapter.
This responds, technically, to the ‘wrong’ prompt from KyokoRen week 2018 because I want to catch up before this year’s week! ^_^;
“I’m back!” I announced as I peeked in through the kitchen’s back exit. Though it was late and there were very few diners left inside, I’ve preferred the back exit since Yashiro-san started accompanying me. It was embarrassing to be escorted, though I supposed it didn’t matter anymore. In a few days, I would go back to having no manager. After all, Tsuruga-san was back from filming Tragic Marker and there was no reason for him to continue playing my manager.
I almost felt like mourning the situation; I wished it didn’t have to happen like this. The most I’d spoken to him since the argument with Tsuruga-san was to ensure that, yes, I could bike and bus my way between jobs just like I used to. Though…I did have to admit that I was certainly out of practice with my biking and my legs hurt a lot more than they usually do after a full day at work. Actually, the sensation was akin to when I was getting used to Natsu’s heels. Just….a bit less painful.
The Okami met me and gave me a secretive grin. My stomach dropped. I’d grown to strongly dislike that look. It was usually accompanied by some stupid news about Sho or, worse, news that he was waiting for me in the private room. Luckily he had left the country so the latter couldn’t be true. My nerves were on edge, regardless. What does the idiot have to say this time? Get mad at me for ‘stealing’ his ring or something? “Kyoko-chan,” She sing-songed. “You have a guest waiting for you. I put him in the private dining room.”
“Thank you, Okami-san.” Flinching, I scrunched my nose. Did I get Sho’s departure date wrong? Even if I did–I couldn’t find a reason for him to show up here. He already picked up his stupid gourd. “I’ll go there immediately.”
She smiled sweetly and waved at me as I walked stiffly through the kitchen, gripping my bag with white knuckles. The attention she paid me instantly more suspicious. Who’s behind that stupid door?
I braced myself for the worst and slid the door open. I dropped my bag and nearly fell to my knees. There was no way I was seeing what I was seeing. I pinched my arm hard enough to bring tears to my eyes and tried to blink the image away. But he was still there.
Ren Tsuruga, the man I just spent the past day and a half trying to avoid.
Doing a dogeza at my feet.
