B & A Fun-blr (...yeah!)

It's always better when you're making dinner together.

After attending Outfest's screening of the British film Weekend, we got to stay fot a Q&A with Writer and Director of the film Andrew Haigh along with Producer Tristan Goligher.

With Ari's best friend Alex in town, it was a good excuse as any to take a little road trip down to San Diego to visit Girl aka Ashley, the lovely lass featured in the EDC photo posted two below this post.

Our first stop along the way down was in Laguna Beach, a small town in the O.C. where none of us grew up...  The early afternoon was spent breezing around the pretty beach town, peeking into galleries and candy shops along our way.  Getting hungry, we found the awesome Zinc Café whose waitstaff was almost as delicious as the food.  Sadly, no photo of the server we all sorta fell for exists.  Instead, here's the cafe exterior.

After purchasing some deeelicious French moutard, we slowly made our way out of Laguna and along the PCH to where it meets back up with the 5 Freeway just south of Dana Beach.

An hour or so later, we arrived in Oceanside, hometown of Girl.

  After enjoying some time at her lovely home and meeting the very-famous best-friend Kelsey, we headed down to the harbor and the beach to watch the sun dip into the horizon.

Then it was off to Arfley's favorite restaurant in her hometown, properly named Miso Harney (nope, that's not a joke at all).  Great sushi and company was had, thanks to the wonderfully caring and generous Michelson family.

The night brought us back to the Michelson house for some boozin' and hot tubbin', followed by a morning of snuggling and roll steamroller.  This helped us all get outta bed and ready to meet the one and only superhuman, Tia, down in La Jolla.

Once there, we ate at George's at the Cove where we were treated to some delicious drinks and had some great grub, including the delicious ceviche below.

The rest of the afternoon was spent chilling soft in La Jolla by the water and back at the beach in Oceanside for a barbecue cookout on the beach that featured some of the best carne asada ever thanks to Chef Dan.  You go, Chef Dan.

weekend brunch is one of the best inventions of all time.

to kick off the summer, we found a highly-rated place called KTCHN 105 in the south of the Warehouse District southeast of Downtown L.A. and decided to check it out... and the word on the street couldn't be truer.

they grow lots of their own herbs and have gardens running along the whole front and back of the property

they change their menu every week, but we just happen to catch them when they were serving Toad in the Holes!! - a breakfast staple of ours

the coffee and the mimosas were good, and the bloody mary's were awesome.

we started with the chilled tomatillo soup and the salmon lox plate... just couldn't resist trying both:

(good god, you were tasty...)

on to the main courses, Ari got an egg scramble with goat cheese, green onions and lots of other dank-ness.

...while Brad opted for the out-of-control corn meal waffle BLT - as one yelp user describes: "Wedged in between the thin, buttery crisp waffle were slices of thick bacon, herb salad, roasted corn mayo, tomatoes, caramelized onions smothered with pear maple syrup. I almost fell out of my chair."

after all that food, dessert was clearly out of the question.  but they give you cookies at the end with your check.  way to rock, ktchn 105.

(p.s.) and what better to follow an amazing food-coma-worthy brunch than a trip to try on and buy music-festival outfits at the American Apparel Warehouse Store.
