Do we have our game plan?
Ian listened to her as she poured out seemingly everything that had been bothering her, and while some of it was reasonable for her to consider, other parts seemed geared towards freaking herself out even more. However, he waited until she was done speaking before responding, wanting to make sure that she’d expressed every fear that was floating around in her mind. “Addison Carmichael, I love you and it’s because I love you that I’m not going to run through every fear that you just listed because that would bore you to no end if I went into that much depth. But I will answer the last question the you asked and hopefully that’ll help you: yes this is what I want.” He paused for a moment after that, wanting her to fully comprehend what he’d said before continuing. “Sure I wasn’t expecting us to have a baby quite so soon, but I have always wanted kids at some point and maybe now is that point. And while our having a kid would add another element to our relationship, it doesn’t change how I feel about you or how the rest of our lives are supposed to play out.” Ian then offered her a small smile, continuing his progressively elongating response, “I know that you aren’t trying to trap me in a relationship, and even if you were, I wouldn’t mind. I’m happy with you and if that counts as being trapped, then I’ll enjoy being a prisoner. Things are going to be alright and so long as you’re okay with everything, this is bound to be one of the happiest times in our life. Or, at least that’s what parenting books always say.”
The wait for Ian to speak seemed long in Addy's panicked mind, hoping that he wasn't reconsidering everything within that time frame. But the first five words out of his mouth, soothed her in ways that nothing else in the world ever could. She exhaled softly as he began speaking, always knowing exactly what to say to calm her fears. She hung on his every word, big blue eyes searching his and then dropping down to his chest every so often while she took it all in. As he finished up, Addy was at a loss for words. Usually, she wasn't able to stop talking but Ian had managed to relax her mind for the time being, forcing her to realize how worked up she was getting herself when there had been no true reason to do so. She knew that Ian loved her and that he was going to be an amazing father, so what was she so afraid of? He had told her before that he wouldn't leave her. It was her lack of trust that always seemed to get the better of her. Pursing her lips a bit in thought, the blonde moved forward and snuggled into his strong arms and chest before releasing all the tension in her body. There was plenty of time to stress and worry-- this was just the beginning. Her lips brushed against his collarbone as she breathed and closed her eyes, focusing on his heart beat, and letting him know that she had heard everything that he had to say-- she just wasn't sure what or if she should say something else. "You've read a parenting book...?" Addison breathed against him, genuinely curious but also wanting to rear away from the seriousness that she had caused. She knew that she had to quit doing that to him.
