Although named Durwell, Sera is secretly the bastard daughter of Mace Tyrell. Sera’s mother was a handmaiden to Lady Olenna Tyrell herself and caught the eye of the then young Mace Tyrell. They shared a bed once after Mace had talked her up. On discovering that she was with child, Sera’s mother beseeched Lady Olenna, who covered up Sera’s bastard origins by issuing her the name ‘Durwell’.

For years Sera remained at Highgarden, but once she was nearing seventeen years of age, it began to be visible that she looked like she could pass for a Tyrell cousin. When this grew evident, Olenna arranged for Sera to have another place to be, where no one could identify her. Sera was appointed handmaiden to Elia Lannister, Lady of Casterly Rock and hoped to use her new position at the Rock to make a better life for herself. Although she knows how to play the game of thrones well, she is considerably laid back and relaxed and searches for fun and mischief at every open opportunity to do so. She doesn’t like to take things to seriously and will often land herself in trouble when she takes her schemes and mischief a little too far.

Through her mischievous ways, Sera has made many friends at the Rock and though her friendship with Mira Forrester is one she holds very dear to her heart, a new friendship was brokered, one between Sera and Elia’s daughter, Joanna Lannister. Though their friendship didn’t last long as what they first thought were simply platonic feelings soon blossomed into ones of romance and during a teary confession, the two girls admitted their feelings for each other, quickly beginning a secret relationship.

The War against the Night which had occurred not long before the pair had come together, changed little for the handmaiden. Her half-brother, Garlan left to fight for the Tyrell family, Mira’s brother left too as well as Lady Elia’s, leaving Sera in a position to comfort those closest to her rather than worry as many did. To Sera’s silent delight, Garlan returned fairly unscathed although Elia and Mira’s brothers weren’t so lucky, sending both the ladies into a state of mourning with Sera displaying her more sympathetic side in tending to both their needs.

From there, things seemed to go downhill for Sera. As Joanna grew older, many saw it unfit for a lady such as herself to, after all these years, remain unmarried and not after long a match was made for her in the form of Quenten Banefort, which put it simply did nothing but upset Sera. The thought of loosing Joanna pained Sera like nothing else, the young lioness brought such joy to the handmaiden’s life that the mere concept of not having her around was truly unbearable. From one loss to another, Elia passed away in her sleep a few weeks later, the Lady of the Rock had been growing weaker and weaker as each week passed and her death sent the entirety of Casterly Rock into mourning and left Sera without a lady to serve. Mira was next in the list of those Sera was quickly loosing, Lady Forrester had arranged a marriage between Mira and Galbart Glover and as Mira had no objections to her match, their marriage was quickly planned and Mira said her final goodbye to both Casterly Rock and Sera.
