I just signed the following petition addressed to: The producers and casting directors of Untitled (Nina Simone Biopic) ---------------- Replace Zoe Saldana with an actress who actually looks like Nina Simone . Nina Simone, dubbed The High Priestess of Soul, is an American icon and a music legend. Because of this, it is without a doubt straight up disrespectful to Ms. Simone and her legacy to get an actress who looks nothing like she did to portray her in a movie about her life. Casting light complexioned actors to play the roles of dark complexioned historical figures is not only a sign of blatant disrespect to the persons they are portraying, it is also disrespectful to history, to the people who look like the persons being whitewashed, and to the intelligence of the audience.

For too long Hollywood has gotten away with this practice of revisionist history and it is time that we let our voices be heard be it by this petition or by boycotting the movie if no change has been made as to who will portray Nina Simone.

I'm tired of cabbies telling me it's rush hour, or when I sit comfortably in the cab they say "I'm not going to Brooklyn/Harlem". That's why I decided to do my agency report on the Taxi & Limo Commission. The amount of prejudice exhibited my mostly cabbies of color is ridiculous, embarrassing, and disheartning. Refusal of service is against the law. Period.

If you are in the cab, stay put. If they do that curbside negotiation BS  take down their cab info and call 3-1-1. Either way let them know that you know the penally pursuant to Code 54 section 20. These are the penalties for refusal of service: 

First violation: $350 if plead guilty before a hearing; $500 if found guilty following a hearing.

Second violation (any combination of violations) w/in 24 months: $700 if plead guilty before a hearing; $1,000 and possible suspension of License for up to 30 days if found guilty following a hearing.

Third violation (any combination of violations) w/in 36 months: $750 and Revocation of License if plead guilty before a hearing; $1,000 and Revocation of License if found guilty following a hearing.
