Heizuha Week 2026 — Day 2 (Dystopian ⛓️)
@heizuhaevents
-.-
The world had gone the color of old blood and wet cement.
Rust-brown iron skeletons of collapsed overpasses leaned against each other like drunks. Concrete grey stretched in every direction, cracked highways, half-swallowed buildings, the skeletal remains of what used to be Osaka’s skyline. Dust hung in the air thick enough to taste. The only clean color left anywhere was the purple charm Kazuha wore around her wrist, the last scrap she’d refused to leave behind the day the city fell.
Heiji Hattori crouched on the edge of a broken overpass, baseball bat resting across his knees. The wood was nicked and stained the same rust-brown as everything else. His usual loud confidence had thinned into something sharper, quieter, but the Osaka drawl still cut through the silence when he spoke.
“Don’t move, Kazuha.”
She froze halfway through climbing the last stretch of rebar. Below them, something dragged itself across the asphalt with a wet, uneven sound. Not many of the dead were left this far out, most had already starved or torn each other apart, but the ones that remained were slower, meaner, and harder to hear until they were close.
Kazuha settled beside him, knees drawn up, the purple bright against the grey of her torn jacket. She kept her voice low. “How many?”
Heiji’s eyes tracked the movement. “Two. Maybe three if the third one’s still dragging itself. We’re good if we stay quiet.”
A rare stillness had settled over the ruins. The sky was the wrong kind of dark, an eclipse was coming, the moon already biting a black crescent into the sun. In the old days people would’ve gathered on rooftops with cardboard glasses. Now the dark simply meant the dead would be harder to see, and the living harder to find.
They had been walking for eleven days since the last safe house burned. Food was almost gone. Water was worse. The only thing still holding them upright was the promise they’d made the night the first wave hit the city: stay together, no matter what. No leaving the other behind. No heroic last stands alone.
Heiji shifted, testing the weight of the bat. Even here, even like this, the competitive spark hadn’t completely died. “When we get somewhere with four walls and a door that locks, I’m making you practice that aikido throw again. You’re still telegraphing the hip movement.”
Kazuha shot him a look that, under different circumstances, would’ve been pure irritation. “You’re one to talk. You still swing that bat like you’re trying to hit a home run every time.”
“It works, doesn’t it?”
“Barely.”
The corner of his mouth twitched. For half a second the old Heiji was visible, loud, cocky, impossible to shut up. Then the sound below them changed. A second set of footsteps joined the first, slower, heavier.
Heiji’s hand found Kazuha’s wrist without looking, fingers closing just above the charm. The contact was brief, practical, the same way he’d always reached for her in a fight. She didn’t pull away.
“On three,” he murmured. “We drop down the far side and keep moving west. There’s an old subway entrance half a kilometer from here. If it’s still clear we can wait out the eclipse.”
Kazuha nodded once. Her eyes were steady. The girl who used to worry about homework and festival yukata had learned how to move through a dead city without making a sound. She still looked soft in the wrong light, pale skin, dark hair tied back with whatever string she could find, but the softness had edges now.
The eclipse deepened. The rust-brown world turned the color of old bruises. Somewhere far off a metal sign creaked in the wind and then fell silent again.
Heiji counted under his breath.
“One.”
Kazuha’s hand tightened around the short length of pipe she’d been carrying for three days.
“Two.”
The things below them had almost reached the base of the overpass.
“Three.”
They dropped together into the grey, the single strip of purple the only clean color left in the dark.
They made it to the subway entrance just as the eclipse swallowed the last thin slice of sun.
The darkness was almost complete, thick, heavy, the kind that made every sound feel closer than it was. Heiji went first, bat raised, checking the stairwell with the same sharp focus he used to give crime scenes. Kazuha stayed two steps behind, pipe ready.
The station below was half-flooded and silent. Water stood ankle-deep in places, reflecting nothing. Most of the ticket gates had been smashed open long ago. But farther in, past a collapsed information board and a row of abandoned vending machines, they found a maintenance room with a heavy metal door that still locked from the inside.
Heiji tested the bolt twice, then a third time, before he finally let his shoulders drop.
“It’s solid,” he said, voice low. “We stay here tonight.”
Kazuha didn’t answer right away. She just leaned her back against the wall and slid down until she was sitting on the cold concrete, knees pulled up.
For a long time neither of them spoke. Outside, the eclipse held the city in a strange, breathless stillness. No dragging footsteps. No distant crashes. Just the soft drip of water somewhere deeper in the tunnels and the sound of their own breathing.
Heiji sat down beside her after a while, close enough that their shoulders touched. He set the bat within easy reach, the way he always did, but his hand didn’t stay on it. Instead it rested on his own knee, fingers flexing once like he wasn’t sure what to do with them now that there was nothing left to hit.
Kazuha’s head tipped sideways until it rested against his arm.
“You’re still shaking,” she murmured.
“Am not.”
She smiled, small and tired. “Liar.”
Heiji let out a short breath that might have been a laugh if it hadn’t been so quiet. “Keeps me warm.”
They stayed like that while the last of the eclipse light drained out of the world. Slowly, carefully, the survival tension began to loosen. Kazuha’s hand found his without looking. Her fingers slid between his, rough from days of climbing and fighting, and he held on like the contact itself was something he needed to keep from slipping away.
“I kept thinking,” she said after a while, voice barely above the drip of water, “that if something happened to you, I wouldn’t even know how to keep going. It’s stupid, but… you’re the only thing that still feels like home.”
Heiji’s thumb moved once across the back of her hand.
“Same here, Kazuha. Every time I look at you and you’re still breathing, I feel like maybe we ain’t completely lost yet.”
She shifted closer until she could rest her forehead against the side of his neck. He smelled like dust and old rain and the faint metallic edge of blood from a cut on his forearm that neither of them had bothered to properly clean yet. Her arms slid around his waist, and after a second his came up around her shoulders, pulling her in until there was almost no space left between them.
For the first time in days, neither of them was listening for footsteps.
The concrete was cold. The air was stale. The world outside was still the color of rust and ruin. But inside the locked room, with their charm pressed between them and the eclipse holding the city in temporary silence, they finally let themselves stop.
Kazuha’s breathing slowed against his collarbone. Heiji’s chin rested lightly on the top of her head. Their hands stayed tangled, neither of them willing to let go first.
In a world that had taken almost everything, this was what remained: the quiet weight of another person who still chose to stay. The only place left where the constant edge of fear could ease. The only peace either of them had left.
Heiji’s voice was barely a murmur against her hair.
“We made it this far.”
Kazuha nodded once, eyes closed.
“We did.”
And for a little while, in the dark of a forgotten maintenance room under a dead city, that was enough.
Chapter 2 is up!

DCMK/AU headcanons dump...ShinRan
Out of all the possible endings and random AU ideas for Shinichi and Ran that have crossed my mind, two have somehow been stuck in my head...
I can't even properly explain why these scenarios keep coming back to me, but the second one just seem to have SO much potential. The more I think about it, the more ridiculous/amusing situations I can imagine happening.
The first one might be common...I honestly haven't come across one myself, but that's probably because I'm more into Heiji and Kazuha fics. It's more on the emotional, bittersweet side, while the other is basically… what if the APTX decided to cause problems for the next generation too? LOL
I mean, if they're going to continue Detective Conan for another 30 years, might as well introduce a new storyline, a new dynamic, or at least a new flavor.
I probably won't ever actually write either of them, but they've been living rent-free in my head lately, so I figured I'd share...
1. The bittersweet ending
Shinichi eventually becomes immune to the APTX4869 antidote after taking it too many times. The accumulated effects have severely damaged his heart, and taking another dose could be fatal.
Ran finds out and makes a choice of her own.
She takes the APTX4869 herself, knowing it will turn her into a child, because she would rather grow up alongside Shinichi again than watch him slowly lose his life.
Her parents reconcile, and Ran finally gets the complete family she had always dreamed of as a child.
2. The “we have absolutely no idea what we're doing” ending
Shinichi finally returns to his normal seventeen-year-old body after taking the antidote and reunites with Ran.
Later, they discover that the drug was still active in his system when they conceived their child.
Everything seems normal—until their son turns six.
One day he suddenly transforms into a seventeen-year-old.
Now Shinichi and Ran have to explain why their six-year-old son suddenly looks exactly like a teenager.
Their solution?
Introduce them to everyone as “teenage Conan,” the distant relative who used to stay with the Mouris is back from America and is staying with them for vacation.
This new “teenage Conan” has inherited Shinichi's intelligence, but unlike the original Conan, this one has absolutely no idea how to pretend to be normal. 😭
I Married an Outlaw
I started working on a new fanfic. Last week I mentioned my DCMK headcanons and I couldn't get one of the AUs out of my head. So I got ambitious and started to draft a huge plot. Then broke them down into chapters. I ended up with 10 chapters to work on...TEN! I've done multi-chapters for other fandoms before...even ones with more than ten chapters. However, this is only my second HeiZuha multi-chapter and it hasn't been long (three days ago) since I wrapped up the first one...so this feels a little daunting... But while writing the first two chapters, I just couldn't help getting excited about the chapters that follow… LOL.
(I don't usually post a chapter as soon as I finish it because most of the time, I'll feel like something doesn't quite align with the latest chapter and end up going back to make minor—or sometimes major—edits to the previous ones.) What excites me even more is that I realized I could incorporate the HeiZuha Week 2026 “Seven Worlds, One Eclipse” theme into one or two of the chapters and finally join the event for the first time! (the eclipse chapter won't get posted until Day 7) I've posted the first chapter on AO3. Hope you check it out!

Detective Ellery...What if Heiji were Conan?
It's fun thinking about what if Heiji was the one who stumbled upon the Black Organization, got force-fed APTX 4869, and shrunk into a six-year-old.
But it's also fun to think of reasons why this wouldn't work and Heiji couldn't be the main character of Gosho's manga...
He would immediately tell his parents. For Heiji, that would be the right and most logical thing to do. He was genuinely surprised to learn Shinichi hadn't told Ran and Kogoro about his real identity despite living with them. And then naturally assumed on their next meeting that the Mouris would already know...only to find out they're still completely clueless. And when Shinichi briefly returned to his normal body and Heiji visited him at the hospital, he encouraged Shinichi to come clean to Ran.
He doesn't have a reason to hide his identity from his parents, nor any reason to move in with his childhood best friend and her inspector father. His own father is the highest-ranking officer in the Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters. if anyone can help investigate the BO or pull police resources together, it's Heizo. I can imagine little Heiji standing in front of his parents saying, "if you don't believe me, let's just do a DNA test." 😂
It probably wouldn't take Osaka police very long to start chasing the BO and eventually get their hands on Shiho and the antidote. Although this is where things might actually get interesting. Sooner or later the BO would learn the identity of the boy they force-fed what they believed was poison. And that boy just happens to be the son of the Director General of the Osaka Prefectural Police...one of the highest-ranking police officials in the country. The stakes suddenly become political, and the story would no longer be about the boy secretly investigating the BO.
Heiji might actually enjoy being six-year-old for just a little while longer. Afterall, Shizuka will absolutely spoil him, and with Heizo already leading the investigation into the BO, there wouldn't be much for him to do except...be a kid. But the moment he learns that more guys are pursuing Kazuha while he was "missing" his priorities might shift immediately. 😂
even if Heiji couldn't tell his parents...Let's say he had a strained relationship with his father or Heizo happened to be away on assignment leaving him with no choice but to stay with Kazuha...the girl would figure it out within days. Imagine a flustered, short-tempered little Heiji snapping with something like "I can take a bath by myself, aho!" or "Stop telling me what to do, boke!" Secret identity over.
He would not get along with Haibara. Not immediately, anyway. Heiji is blunt and Haibara is sarcastic. He would call her "aho", she would roll her eyes, he would call her "boke", she would threaten to withhold the antidote. They would drive each other insane.
He doesn't have a scientist / inventor friend. Maybe Otaki can be the enabler adult 😂, but it will be difficult for little Heiji to move around by himself without all those gadgets Agasa made for Conan.
Kaito would have a much harder time helping him. He has to perfectly imitate that ridiculously strong Kansai accent.
And then there's Shinichi. Heiji knew who Shinichi Kudo was before they ever met. But Shinichi was too busy being Detective of the East to pay attention to another teenage detective in Kansai. He probably wouldn't ever bother traveling to Osaka to find out why his rival suddenly goes MIA.
It will still definitely be a fascinating AU but it won't be the same kind of story. BUT I WILL TAKE THIS AU ANY DAY OF THE WEEK...
DCMK headcanons and fangirl rants...
Just some stuff that's been floating in my mind that would be fun as fanfic, but obviously most of these will need to be multi chapter stories...and I can't handle multi chapter fics 😂The moment I get to the middle of a story, I'll suddenly have an idea that I'll be itching to add in the previous chapters and everything spirals because the plot per chapter changes completely 😂
I'm almost done on my first HeiZuha multi chapter, btw.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Heiji being the one to find out Kaito's real identity. Because, why not? He is the GOAT. He was the first to find out about Conan/Shinichi...then in Movie 27 he immediately noticed the resemblance between Kaito and Shinichi in both looks and voice and went straight to "Are they siblings?". So, naturally, Heiji, the Great Detective of the West goes into full investigation mode, digs thorough all the files at Osaka Police Headquarters, and maybe gets hold of information from police HQ of other prefectures (he has connections) about the Phantom Thief and just connected the dots. You think Heiji will just let that suspicion go after Kudo tells him, "it's just coincidence." NO...his "Whatever." clearly says, "ok, I'll look into it myself."
Heiji's grandfather (from whom he inherited his tan skin tone) being a member or an adversary (a veteran detective) of the Black Organization was also given APTX 4869 and shrank to a six-year-old kid. Heiji knows about all of this, and he is also investigating the BO. That's why he got suspicious when Shinichi went MIA and traveled to Tokyo hoping to find some connection with his grandfather's case. So when he eventually figured out about Conan/Shinichi he was completely unfazed...and even seemed amused...like "Oh another adult (almost) who got turned into a kid. Nothing new." I imagine him saying "there's more of them" after learning about Haibara 😂 That's why he never got the hang of calling him Conan, because he never changed the way he talked to his grandfather after he shrunk. He doesn't tell Kudo just yet and continues his own investigation. Maybe his grandfather told him not to, or maybe he'll tell him once he has enough information.
Heiji and Kazuha having a regular target-shooting sessions...because Kazuha's mother was a former member of anti-firearms squad, her father the chief inspector, his father the superintendent...it only makes sense that they'd be interested in learning how to shoot...and they'd become really good at it...and somehow end up becoming secret agents themselves, basically turning into DC version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith--Kazuha will be the one deadly accurate, and Heiji gets competitive, obviously 😂
Of course, if Kazuha is a secret agent, she is a good rider too--much more reckless than Heiji...and that drives him crazy 😂
Kazuha and Ran meeting Aoko, then they encourage her to take martial arts lessons or maybe give her Aikido and Karate lessons themselves...because if you are an only child of an inspector/detective and have a cool, handsome childhood best friend who constantly gets himself into dangerous situations, you need to be a black in something. 😂
Hakuba and Momiji becoming a couple. Because Hakuba deserves someone cool, smart, elegant, and pretty...and Momiji deserves her own detective. Please, Hakuba and Akako has zero chemistry. Nil. Nada. And we need Momiji to completely stop going after Heiji. Give that girl her own detective! Plus, they make a perfect pair....and I love how they are in contrast with Heiji and Kazuha who are down-to-earth, chaotic, athletic, familiar, and effortless...Hakuba and Momiji are elegant, sophisticated, cultured, and articulate. Both are power couples in different ways. Oh...how they got together? Heiji started a group chat, then immediately left as soon as Momiji and Hakuba joined. 😂 Hakuba was about to hit the "Leave" button but noticed that Momiji was typing, so he decided to wait and see what she had to say. "Why did Heiji-kun leave? If this group chat doesn't concern traditional arts or karuta, may I please leave as well?" Then Hakuba asks something related to Traditional Arts. And somehow they just hit it off.
Okay, I confess, most of these are plots I’m wishing for in a Heiji Hattori DC spinoff... because wdym the Culprit can have his own spinoff, but the Great Detective of the West—kendo captain, skilled rider, fluent in English, son of the Director General of the Osaka Prefectural Police and a former Karuta Queen, tall, dark, and handsome, the first to uncover Conan’s identity, takes a bullet for his girl, rides his bike across a mansion roof, fights with a katana on the wing of a flying Cessna—Hattori Heiji—couldn’t?!
And this man really received an email from Kudo basically asking him to risk his life by disguising himself as Shinichi and walking straight into a Black Organization trap, and his response was essentially:
“OK” —but make it out of tiny hearts. 😭
Like??? Sir??? Not just that you didn't even hesitate...but you had to make your response cute?!
And whenever Heiji shows up to solve a case with Conan, you just know we're getting a three- or four-part episode. 😂
Like... excuse me? Look at this resume.

If HeiZuha were Pokemon masters?
So, I've been thinking about Heiji and Kazuha in an alternate universe...
I asked AI which Pokémon would pair best with Heiji and Kazuha, and it turns out they were newer ones 😂 I'm not familiar with them at all—I only know about them because of my nephews!
Meanwhile, I'm still stuck in the Pikachu, Charizard, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle era. 😅
HeiZuha as BT21
Just want to share how proud I am as an ARMY seeing BTS take a stand against discrimination and unequal treatment.
It must have been a difficult decision since winning a Grammy has always been one of their dreams...but it only goes to show that they know their worth and refuse to settle for anything less than the respect they deserve.
They truly live by the messages they share through their music. They are not here simply for recognition or acknowledgment.
"We hope our music will be heard and appreciated for what it is, rather than being categorized by region or language."
my first HeiZuha drawing ^.^; not very polished, but my kids find it cute...that's good enough for me lol
Just a little throwback to when my cousin brought me a pair of Heiji socks after her short trip to Japan. They're still in my closet, waiting for the day I finally get to wear them on my own trip to Japan—especially Osaka. 😊
Baby HeiZuha
Since I started writing my HeiZuha stories last month, I can't stop imagining all these little moments from their childhood. It just feels like they must've had the most colorful, chaotic adventures growing up together. Compared to Shinichi and Ran, Heiji and Kazuha seem like the kind of kids who were always getting into trouble. 😂 (though… I wonder what Shinichi and Ran did to make Eri scold—and even smack—them lol).
Canon mentions that Heiji and Kazuha have known each other since they were toddlers, but I like to imagine they actually met as babies--before either of them could walk or talk. In my headcanon, their fathers had already been close friends since their police training days, and their mothers just happened to click despite having completely opposite personalities.
Here's an AI-generated illustration inspired by Detective Conan and my headcanon of their first meeting.

Heiji Hattori and Kazuha Toyama...My Anime OTP
Oh my...I'm finally starting a blog for my favorite anime couple.
I discovered HeiZuha a little more than 20 years ago.
I liked Heiji first. Obviously, since he appeared in the series before Kazuha. He left a stronger impression to me than Shinichi. I found him more attractive, especially with his tan complexion. He is also funny, warm, and charismatic. They are both smart, but I was just really impressed how he was the first person to figure out Conan's true identity.
Kazuha's introduction was epic too. It was hilarious watching her get sassy and jealous because she thought Kudo was a girl who caught Heiji's attention but insisting that she is only looking after him like a big sister. The contradiction and Heiji's reactions made her debut entertaining and memorable.
At first, they reminded me of Yusuke and Keiko (Yuyu Hakusho) and Ranma and Akane (Ranma 1/2) who are two of the anime couples I also like. They are childhood best friends like Yusuke and Keiko. They are strong martial artists like Ranma and Akane. They bicker and tease each other a lot...but they care deeply for each other.
It was when I saw the Detective Conan episode "And Then There Were No Mermaids" when my love for this pair was sealed.
Kazuha saving Heiji from falling off the cliff, even when it meant she will be the one to fall instead.
Heiji rushing to grab Kazuha's hand, literally jumping after her.
Kazuha stabbing Heiji's hand with an arrow, so only she will have to fall and die.
Heiji not letting go of Kazuha despite the searing pain of the stab, and him not calling her out for what she did, just assured her he will pull them to safety.
Their actions, chemistry, and dynamic made them stood out to me.
However, during that time, Heiji and Kazuha didn't appear very often in the series, and there wasn't much content about them on the internet either. At the same time, life happened. I got busy graduating from high school, transitioning to college, landing my first job, changing careers, getting engaged, getting married, and eventually having kids.
Before I knew it, years had passed. While I never stopped liking Heiji and Kazuha, they naturally took a back seat as I focused on the different milestones in my own life. Looking back now, it feels nostalgic to rediscover them after so much time has gone by.
Over the last few months, I've been catching up on all the Detective Conan episodes, movies, and OVAs featuring Heiji and Kazuha.
Somehow, they've become my current comfort zone. Whenever I watch an episode centered around them, it gives me a temporary escape from the anxiety and worries that come with everyday life—the uncertainty of finding work, financial pressures, and the challenges that sometimes arise in marriage. For a little while, I can set those concerns aside and simply enjoy their adventures, their humor, and the comfort of seeing two characters I've loved since I was younger. Rediscovering Heiji and Kazuha after all these years has felt like reconnecting with old friends at a time when I needed that sense of familiarity the most.
I even got my kids to watch Detective Conan with me, and to my delight, they've grown to love Heiji and Kazuha too (though their favorite character is Kaito Kid). It's been such a joy sharing something I loved when I was younger with them and seeing them get excited about the same characters and stories.
I'm so ecstatic to learn that my favorite pair have been officially dating since 2024, and I'm even more excited to see those manga chapters animated.
And while I wait for those chapters to be animated, I've been writing fanfiction about Heiji and Kazuha. It's become another way for me to stay connected to their story while waiting for new episodes. Writing lets me explore their relationship, imagine new adventures, and fill in the moments I wish I could see.
