Among the numerous ruins of ancient Kaldorei culture, the magickal vestigia of Stardust has endured through the countless calamities wrought upon Ashenvale’s ecosystem. Two powerful, rare reagents find their origin here; a creation perhaps forever lost to myth, but resilient through the ages. The source of their power is unknown, however some believe them to be imbued with a powerful blessing from Ashenvale wisps, greater spirits, a Wild God, or even Elune Herself. With the loss of Kaldorei immortality, and the subsequent weakness to mortal illnesses, a voyage to Stardust is now considered a sacred mission; and its ingredients, even more so.

The Font of Stardust

Despite the corruption gripping the outer waters and the nearby satyr hold, a small font remains seemingly untouched in a collapsed pavilion at the heart of the Stardust isle. Surrounded by a ringed lake, some have likened it to a watchful eye when viewed from the boughs. Whispers claim that something holy silently keeps their vigil here, or that the formation of Stardust’s font was by divine hands. There are legends which tell of the ancient High Rangers of Ashenvale enduring as wisps of the land who still maintain their time-lost charge.

The respect for Stardust even extends to cultures beyond the Kaldorei, as many shamans consider it a holy site whose waters can be used in the creation of divinatory saptas to commune with elemental manifestations. This basin is described as both a fountain and a well, producing water which can be combined with other sacred liquids to make the “purest water any living creature will find.” The font’s resistance to corruption is still a great mystery, but it could be that the font itself is so strongly imbued that it wards against, or outright destroys, corruptive influence. One arcane scholar purports that the font perhaps draws upon a deep, isolated reservoir of a leyline from the ancient Well of Eternity.

One might make a pilgrimage to this font when seeking the cure for a deeply rooted curse, poison, or disease. Those who practice divination or wish to commune with the metaphysical would find their ritual to be greatly empowered with the waters of Stardust. Only a small vial is needed, and any traveling to this place may hear the tales of nature’s wrath consuming those who take advantage of its bounties. 

Stardust Shrubs

Found nowhere else on Azeroth but here, the leaves of this isle’s bushes are frosted with silver, aptly named by the locals after the glade, stardust. These shrubs are similar to the font they encircle in that they are unmarred by the corruption of their environment. 

This dust has a propensity to markedly abate fevers, as was the case with Relara Whitemoon, whose grave illness was averted through a poultice made with stardust. Healers may seek to obtain this material, or perhaps carry some on their person, for especially dire infections.

Experienced enchanters are able to imbue an item with stardust in their working to ward against corruptive forces. 

It is also said that a handful of stardust can bestow a peaceful passage for the dying.

Mundane Uses: Emotional catharsis | Mental clarity

A sister to the many holy lakes of Ashenvale Forest, Iris of the northwest is yet another where the realms of earth and spirit converge. This islet long served as a repose for the shed tearstones of Elune, often manifesting on nights of especially heavy rain and unusually radiant moonlight. These lunar lachryma are powerful sources of clarification; both on the mind, and against profane forces.

Many believe that they fall when the Goddess Herself cries, though the reasons are widely contended. Some purport that the stones appear after the spread of corruption in the natural world, or perhaps from Elune taking the grief and burdens of Her devotees upon Herself. Lunar historians note from records that some tearstones of yore have curiously fallen on ill-fated anniversaries of past events, such as the coronation date of Queen Azshara, the eve of the Sundering, the creation of the Scythe of Elune, and so on; though no one is certain if this is mere coincidence or not.

Philosophers maintain, however, that Elune’s tears are poignant reminders on the purifying nature of weeping, and the healing which can arise from relinquishing one’s sorrows. These ideas are further solidified by the demonstrated properties of the lunar lachryma. In a mundane sense, their uses are primarily two-fold: emotional catharsis, and mental clarity. For example, one might seek a tearstone for temporary and gradual reprieve when emotional wounds run exceptionally deep, or completely consume one’s thoughts. The same could be said for severe mental and physical stressors; such as delirium from illness, Her tears reportedly washing away such ailments with an ephemeral calm. Magickally, the tears are particularly robust in the purging and banishing of corruption. Historically, Iris Lake and the lachryma became a pivotal location in rousing those trapped in their slumber across Ashenvale and Darkshore during the War Against the Nightmare.
