citations still have to be APA 7th edition though. if you plagiarise, the gods will flood the yellow river again. and you'll lose your academic standing.

It sucks that the only way to begin is by beginning
One thing that’s really interesting about Eternal Sugar that I’ve seen very few people talk about is how she’s in denial that she’s corrupted at all.
She thinks that Sloth is the answer to Happiness because no one can be hurt or sad if they don’t do anything. She even still titles herself similarly to her Virtue counterpart (Sugar of Happiness -> Bringer of Happiness).
She doesn’t see herself as corrupted because she thinks she’s finally found an answer on how to make every cookie happy forever. It’s a really interesting part of her character that’s never really addressed.
I think this is why she dislikes the title of "beast." Why should she be called a beast for making people happy? That's her thought process, anyway
It’s also interesting to me how she’s both not afraid to hurt others in order to get what she wants but then when Holly calls her out on that she panics and insists that she didn’t because she’d never hurt anyone.
She genuinely believes she’s found some secret code to making cookies happy and that everything she does is for their own good. She ultimately doesn’t understand happiness because she cannot understand that different cookies are happy by different things.
I really wish this was explored more because I think it’s the most interesting part of Eternal’s character and sets her apart from the other beasts; all of the beasts think what they’re doing is right but she’s the only one to be in outright denial that she’s corrupted and that what she’s doing is wrong while the others are aware of their corruption and their actions but believe the ends justify the means.

Your manuscript is returned for the reason checked below:
What's really funny about the reason that has been checked- the story has been done before- is that Essanay was one of the original film studios. It was only producing movies from 1907 to 1918. Imagine making one of THE first movie pitches ever and being rejected for having a story that's been done. "Yeah, we know that the first narrative feature film was in 1906, so like... yesterday, basically, but your story has already been told! Next!"
(This sheet would have had to have been produced in 1908 or later, since the studio was at a different location in its first year.)
Also the first thing they ever made was a movie of their studio custodian dressed as a hobo on roller skates. They then pushed him down hills and into traffic and other situations. It was a massive success, and the custodian-turned-actor, Ben Turpin, is also believed to be the first person to ever take a pie to the face on film.
So every year, my aquarium does a captive lobster hatchery project (hence all the loblings). The reason we’re doing it is because in the wild, loblings only have a 1 in 25,000 chance of surviving their larval phase. They’re plankton as babies and everything eats them. Additionally, as the Gulf of Maine warms, they are having even lower survival rates because the blooms of copepods they feed on as babies are happening earlier in the year, and they’re missing it.
Obviously, the goal of this experiment is to grow the lobsters until they’re big enough to settle to the seabed and then release them, because they have a much higher likelihood of surviving to adulthood when they’re able to hide. Ideally, captive lobster hatcheries can boost the wild population and keep things stable, so we don’t have a major crash in a decade or two.
The first year we tried this was pretty bad. We had a lot of eggs, but very few babies. It turned out that the CO2 levels in the building spiked as more guests visited throughout the summer, and that settled into the water and threw off the pH and caused a chemical reaction that prevented a lot of the eggs from hatching. I think we ended up releasing three baby lobsters (which is still better than their wild survival rate but not great).
The second year was a little better. We added a de-gasser to the aquarium and got a ton of larval lobsters, but right as they were settling to the bottom we had a disease outbreak that killed most of them. We ended up releasing four babies at the end of the season.
But this year? Oh boy. We have so many lobsters that we had to release the first round early (usually we wait till September or October so guests can see them). We just released a total of FIVE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE baby lobsters, and we still have over a hundred who haven’t settled to the bottom yet. I genuinely don’t even have words to explain how cool this is. OVER FIVE HUNDRED. We just added hundreds of lobsters to the wild population that wouldn’t have been there otherwise.
Conservation is so fucken sick
The midjourney stuff just reminds of when we were trying to find a new platform to host the ao3 donation form, and companies kept trying to tell me about all their "ai" features that would track donor engagement, and figure out the optimal pattern to email individual donors asking for follow up donations, and all the ways they suggest we manipulate people into staying on our websites. It was a great way to filter out who either wasn't listening to us when we described our ethics and donor base, or just didn't believe us.
Now granted ao3 is a unique case based on a) the amount of page views we get in any given time period and b) the fact that most donors absolutely do Not want to be identified as such anywhere, (the default "list of recent donors" module got nuked Immediately) but it surprised me some that the concept of "donors who value their privacy and would be furious at even the whiff of AI" is unique. Some of us really are just existing in different worlds.

#I just started dropping '2.5 Billion page views a month'#into conversations as early as possible bc they would Not believe me otherwise#it was right up there with having to say 'csam attacks' to get them to take my compartmentalization of information concerns seriously#turns out those are the magic words#otw#op
The last part was kind of insane, honestly. When we started changing platforms for the donor database, I kept telling them that yes I was aware we already had an account for the volunteer database, and no that could not be connected to the donor database. And they said yes fine sure and then connected them anyway. And I called them back and said, excuse me, I'm confused, I can see both databases. And they said, well, yeah, but it's only you, someone has to be able to see both databases to give other users access. The other users can't see both. And I said, no, we have been asking for a completely separate database. I should not be able to see both. And they said, you are one organization, one organization can't have two databases. And I said, last year someone used our volunteer email list to commit approximately one thousand felonies. Please feel free to imagine how much worse it could have been had they had a way to use volunteers' email addresses to get their legal names. We do not want this to be something anyone can do no matter how much we trust them. Let me describe those felonies to you in more detail. And they emailed me two hours later and said, you can have two separate databases.
This post feels like watching an iceberg go by in clear water. The amount of stuff going on beneath the surface of AO3 just astonishes.

Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.
“I had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,” said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). “We literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town. “Once we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.”
it has since been confirmed that namaygoosisagagun first nation has completely burnt to the ground. if you would like to help the community navigate an ongoing crisis, i urge you to donate to the anishinabek nation 7th generation, a registered charity seeking to improve the lives of first nations people. donations are going directly to members of namaygoosisagagun first nation.

#the bioessentialism is gross and inescapable#‘oh i’m just not comfortable around this person bc i don’t know them!’#is that it? or is it that they’re masculine presenting and you only think of non-binary people as girl lite
alright but we can at least bring the Floradinns back with us right
asgore doesn't need his weed stash that badly right now does he
loved the very specific fuckery with "gendered" terms this chapter
reminder that gendered terms should be fucked with as often as possible and aren't cages you need to lock yourself or anyone else in
"Oh yeah, we have an outdoor Corgi, he just gets so bored cooped up inside all day. He knows to stay off the road. Don't worry, he's way too smart for coyotes and the neighbor's know to look out when they drive past."
"Us? Oh, of *course* our Dachshund sleeps inside- we just let him out in the morning and make sure he comes back for dinner. He just does his own thing, no worries."
"Um, you know it's not humane to keep a chihuahua confined to an apartment? They're dogs, they're natural predators. They need to experience hunting behaviors or they get depressed. No we don't leash ours, he absolutely hates it, we just let him come and go whenever."
Yall get how fucking stupid that sounds, right? So stop letting your goddamn cats get eaten and attacked and infected and hit by cars
A toddler would probably love full unattended access to the neighborhood too, but we don't do that either, do we
It's 2026, "keep your damn pet in a house or in your view" should not be controversial
I had to go on a hunt for this but it was worth it. 100% agree

the problem with shows like TADC and Stranger Things is that they're shows that built their stories upon mystery and intrigue, and invited their audience to engage with said mystery, to hypothesize, to notice every single detail.
you can't write a story like that and then just handwave all of that lore and make a half-assed finale that doesn't answer any of these questions.
it's one thing if these shows were sitcoms or romance or even action shows. there's usually not that much lore to be had there, unless you want to include some.
Stranger Things started off as a small-town mystery that slowly built itself into a larger plotline. the creators themselves encouraged their fans to observe and theorize, that there are no coincidences and everything that's in the story exists for a reason. and then they just fumbled the last few seasons and failed to answer any of the questions fans had.
similarly, TADC starts off with a mystery surrounding the circus, its creators, the potential exit, etc. there were a bunch of stuff that initially seemed like clues, but now looking back, seems to be just random details added in for suspense.
if you're not ready to deliver on your promise of lore and worldbuilding, and instead suddenly make the decision to make your show "character focused" (which they didn't even do properly because the only character we focused on was the abusive edgelord with a tragic backstory) that is ultimately a betrayal to your audience's expectations.
if you want to make a character-focused show, you should have done that from the beginning. you should have written a drama or a romance instead.
TADC is especially a disgrace as something that claims to be inspired by IHNMAIMS, when it doesn't even have a third of the worldbuilding and lore that the original SHORT STORY had.
This will probably be my most controversial post by far, but it needs to be said.
Gendered socialization is unequivocally real. Boys and girls are treated and socialized differently before they're even born.
Female babies are disappearing en masse, because male babies are more valued.
From an extremely early age, parents respond to their childrens' emotions differently based on gender. Mothers over-estimate the crawling abilities of their infant sons compared to infant daughters.
Mothers speak to their infant daughters more and talk them more about emotions than they do their sons.
By the age of 2, boys already show an avoidance to the color pink and other items traditionally seen as feminine, laying the ground work for early demonstrations of misogyny in childhood.
When children enter pre-school, there is no difference in math abilities between boys and girls. But such gaps begin to appear as children grow older.
The vast majority of girls report feeling unsafe going outside, and at least 2/3 of girls have reported experiencing sexual harassment at school by the time they 16.
Further on in education, women will understimate their scores, while men will overestimate their scores. Women will perform worse on tests when first told that women, on average, perform worse.
Researchers argue that the prevalence of sexual assault against women is so high specifically because of early gendered socialization. The men who commit sexual violence consistently demonstrate specific ideals about gender and perform hostile masculinity.
The patterns reach well into adulthood, influencing occupational choices.
I could literally go on and on and on. There are countless studies and entire fields of academia dedicated to researching this. The fact that children are socialized differently paced on assigned or percieved gender is really not debatable.
I am sympathetic to the fact that transphobes have warped the concept of socialization to insinuate that trans women are destined to be violent or predatory, or that trans men are destined to be submissive and helpless. However, people weaponizing these frameworks does not mean that the phenomenon does not exist.
Furthermore, individual people's nuanced experiences with gendered socialization does not mean that these patterns don't exist on a large scale. Any interaction with society will confer the influence of gender biases, especially upon children to are extremely vulnerable to both subtle and overt social cues.
Again - gendered socialization is real. This is a core aspect of feminist analysis. I am not going to pretend otherwise.
