"Tender Biscuits." I showed you guys a sneak peek of this in August, but since it was a gift for a dear friend who loves elephants and Otis Redding and is expecting her first baby, I had to keep it hidden. Until now! A couple of months ago, I sold one of my "Anyway the Wind Blows" prints to a woman who told me it was going to hang in her new baby's Queen-themed nursery. I thought that was one of the coolest things I've heard in a long time. I know SO many music loving parents, and it is a truly incredible feeling to have my work decorating the walls of their little ones' rooms. I plan on doing more of these lyric inspired prints that can be enjoyed by hip kids and their equally hip parents. And yes, I do take requests. Confession time: I have recently developed arthritis in my right hand. And just like Inigo Montoya, I am not left-handed. But unlike Inigo Montoya, my left hand is kind of an idiot and can't even hold a fork properly let alone a pencil. Unfortunately this has led to my having to put not only my regular workload on hold, but my 100 day project as well. There's always next year I guess. This isn't forever of course, but it is my new reality until I can get in to see the specialist at the end of June. I just wanted to give a quick explanation for my absence, and express my sincerely heartfelt appreciation to all those who have stuck around. 6/100 I found a bunch of these fuzzy dudes in my azaleas one year, so I scoured the internet to find out what they were. Turns out they’re called Azalea Caterpillars. Go figure. 🌺🐛#100daysofbugs.

5/100 Five-horned Rhinoceros Beetle. Some people call this a Unicorn Beetle. Neat. 🦄 #100daysofbugs

4/100 Black and Yellow Garden Spider. Yes, I know, it’s not technically a bug, but rules are made to be broken. These beauties always make their presence known in my garden this time of year, and we draw best what we know, right? Plus spiders really get a bad rap, man. This little guy does way more good than not and creates the coolest and most complexly beautiful webs in town. He definitely deserves a spotlight. 🕷

3/100 I really feel like I’m channeling my inner inchworm with how slow this whole process is going for me. I promise you guys I’m trying. 🐛

2/100 Found a honeybee in my marigolds. I also found out that the gray wash around the edges of said bee just looks like dirty paper. Lesson learned. 🌼🐝

1/100 Magellan Birdwing butterfly. OK, let’s try this again - last year I didn’t make it past the first day. Maybe starting a couple days late will turn that around for me? This is part of a larger piece that I’m currently working on, but the subject matter always worms itself into my everyday. So I might as well go for it. Here’s the first of (hopefully) "100 Days of Bugs." 🦋

I took a too short but much need vacation, so naturally a crowded resort and two many crowded airports gave me a cold. It is what it is. Taking the day off to recoup, but thought I’d share the minimal progress I was able to make on this one before fleeing town. I may be biased (thanks to a handsome husband), but I adore drawing green eyes. 🐶&🐰

Work in progress/digital mock-up of something I hope to get done in time for a deadline. I hate deadlines. 🐶&🐰 EDIT: The only thing created digitally in this is the gold coloring. The rest is all hand-drawn or painted. The plan is to blow it up to a large-ish print and then apply metallic paint for the halo. I don't know exactly why I thought you needed that explanation, but there you go.

Here’s hoping you all had a Happy New Year my lovelies! I know not everyone is a believer that simply turning a page on the calendar resets anything anew, but I’m choosing to think the opposite and readying myself to start pushing my work in even newer and scarier directions. I have BIG (literally) plans for this one. So….I’m excited for what the new year has in store! Also, please excuse the poor phone pic. 🐶&🐰

Since everything I’m currently working on is either a commission or a surprise piece for a show, I can’t let you guys see any of it right now. In the meantime, I thought I would revisit this piece from 2015. One of the reasons that I love and draw so many rabbits is because Watership Down was one of my favorite movies as a child, and then became my favorite book as an adult. With the recent passing of Richard Adams, as 2016 deals another tragic blow, I’m reminded yet again that as we age, so do our heroes. Mortality is a constant. Death an inevitability. But it’s everything that comes before that defines who we are. This was my ever so subtle homage to Adams, to what many consider his magnum opus, and to a story that changed me in ways I can barely fathom. Thanks for everything, Richard. ❤🐰❤
