trent interview snippet :3c
something kind of interesting… i’ve always been curious about this picture of trent because this is like the only picture of him where he’s got white foundation on like this but i am only now learning that the girl in this picture is tina montalbano (aka heart) who was nin’s hair and makeup artist during the self destruct tour… you can see her in many of kate van buren’s youtube videos as well as the video for march of the pigs and the closer and hurt mv bts tapes… still not sure what the specific context of this picture with trent’s makeup is but i guess it makes a little more sense knowing that he’s literally next to his makeup artist lol…
Another interesting fact... as mentioned here Heart was responsible for hair and makeup in the mv for march of the pigs (you can see her run over to fiddle with trent's face in the middle of the video) but walt cessna was apparently the one who did the styling/outfit for that video! for those unfamiliar he was also the person behind STOP magazine in the early 1990s, which brought us the beloved orange duct tape pictures of trent... he also contributed to NIN's styling during the self destruct tour, it's really cool that he's responsible for so many of trent's like really famous and most loved looks teehee... cessna had a great eye for what to make him wear (or not wear)...
Stop was pretty short lived and only ran until 1993, but it documented a lot of fashion and art based in NYC and also featured a lot of musical artists in it as well.

A screen recording of mine from the Substance digizine :-) we managed to emulate windows 98 on my computer to get this thing running, it's super cool to have access to stuff like this and I will always be grateful for how dedicated nin fans are to archiving these types of things.
Substance was an interactive digizine originally available on cd-rom in the mid 90s, it contains a lot of interview audios and transcripts, other tidbits of information, and is all put together in a very 90s fan internet way which I think is super cool. its super fun to get lost in and all the UI design is so cool, it's definitely a relic of the 90s!!!
i would one day really like to make a tutorial for other people interested in having this on their own computers but it is quite an intensive and intricate process so it may take me a while to put that together + truthfully idk how many people would want to go through all that. But in the meantime nindestruct has a video walkthrough of the entire thing on their youtube channel, i highly recommend nin fans go check it out because it's a super cool fan project from the bands history and it contains a lot of interesting interview bits I think u guys would like to see :-)
