Ok, I finished Avatar. Here are my thoughts:
it was beautiful
I loved it
Season 1 Iroh was such a great ragebaiter to Zuko
Piangdao (?) would probably fight Hakoda for custody rights over Sokka
I will fight Iroh for custody over Zuko š¤
Getting your ass handed to you by a 12 year old and then getting called loser lord by another teenage is just embarrassing af
Once you look at it from an adult view it is actually kinda terrifying sometimes (black snow for example)
The show really balanced the heavier themes really well (it's amazing they even touched them at all)
Zuko's redemption arc was amazing
I want to punch Ozai in the face, though
Secret tunnel!!!!!!, the girls in ba sing se, soldier boy....
I have a personal belief that Ursa suffered post partum depression when she had Azula, and it's part of the reason she didn't connect with her as well as with Zuko. (I'm not saying she's a bad mother, she was in a terrible situation, but you can't tell me she held a baby in her arms and decided 'this one's too much like its father')
Super random, but I liked that they drew nippels on the men. Normally, they don't do that in animated shows
Ty Lee didn't join Azula because she wanted to, but cause she was scared
All of them were way too young to have this much responsibility
Iroh was wrong for making Zuko take the throne at 16(?). No matter what he said (a brother taking back what's his isn't that much different from a traitor prince). He should have stayed and held the throne until Zuko came of age, or at least stayed in the palace as support and advisor to Zuko
Zuko is an awkward turtelduck
I love the weird fact that they crossed all those animals (turtleducks, Appa, otterkoalas š)
The earth king was really sweet and kinda cute
The fact that this show had a beach episode
Mai and Zuko on the beach under an umbrella...goth couple vibes all the way
Loved all the npcs
I love that Aang decided not to kill Ozai
The engine worker and the fire soldier were totally flirting
The gang totally killed some of the people who they fought along the way (throwing them overboard and stuff like that)
Season 2 Zuko (Lee) was cute as he'll, and he had amazing chemistry with that girl he went in a date with. (Jin?)
The fact that once he became part of the gang, he handed out tea to them, even later, in the end, when he's fire lord, he's still walking around with that tablet, serving them
I love that it feels like one story, start to finish, and not some show they just kept adding on cause it was paying so well ā¤ļø
(Sorry for the long post)

I know I say this a lot, but itās crazy to me that the atla fandom has any sort of tendency at all to portray zuko as rational, levelheaded, clever, knowledgeable, studious, meticulous, practical, reasonable, logical, or otherwise intelligent. while he does possess certain strengths, his greatest are his grit and tenacity, resilience built up through a lifetime of failures born of a tendency for heedlessness, rushing into choices without thinking through the consequences or weighing his options whatsoever. he has his moments, to be sure, but thatās largely because he happens to be far luckier than he gives himself credit for. oh, and while weāre at it, heās also certainly not stoic, aloof, even-tempered, mature, or quiet. the fact that heās foolhardy and impulsive and reckless and dramatic and loud and emotionally expressive and myopically driven and strong-willed are sort of his defining qualities, actually. theyāre also the traits that make his character actually endearing, so im not really sure why people seem so determined to negate them.
op's tags are too true:
#thinking again abt how he literally had aang's exactly address and instead decided to kidnap appa. #which means he's either illiterate or an idiot #at least one of which is certainly true
I was at the market today and a young man was very rude to the tea vendor. He said the tea was "just hot leaf water." Then proceded to laugh at the vendor.
He is correct. It is hot leaf water. And the leaves matter. And the temperature of the water matters. And the vessel you drink it from matters. And who you share it with matters most of all.
Everything is "just" something, if you are determined to miss the point.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Stan and Ford!
And it's the 14th anniversary of the Gravity Falls premiere!
Just a nice, peaceful day fishing this year. :). A bit of a "lineless" experiment from me (although, I haven't really done one yet that's truly line-less; I'm sure there's a trick to that, and I need to really change the way I think about indicating details.)

ok so I looked it up, and it turns out they made a track out of PVC pipes, down a hill. The owner didn't realise PVC expanded in the heat, so on a turn the track just fell apart and the dude inside went over a fucking free way and into a swamp.
The funniest part is that the inspector was watching the whole time, and once the ball stopped he left without saying anything. Park management just shut it down then and there.
"The ball cleared a small hill, briefly going airborne, then zipped right across Route 94, the two-lane road splitting the park. Cars honked and slammed on their brakes. If there had been opposing traffic, Frank would have become part of a real-life game of Pong, volleying from one bumper to another.
Still in pursuit, we followed the ball toward a small lake in Motor World that had been earmarked for a fleet of tiny bumper boats for children. The area wasnāt open yet, but the empty boats were being tested and floated on the surface. The ball soared over the grass and smashed into several of them, scattering the others with rippling waves from the impact, which launched some of the boats several feet in the air.
Charlie and Ken waded into the water looking for the hatch. After some difficulty, they got it open. Charlie pulled Frank out by grabbing him under his armpits like a baby. Frank crawled up the bank, coughing and sputtering. He splayed across the grass as we all stared at the ball, which bobbed in the water like it was attached to a fishing lure.
We did not ask for the inspectorās report, nor did we ever hear of one being filed. Ken Bailey returned to Canada. The snow-makers cleared away the PVC. Told to dispose of the Bailey Ball, they rolled it into the woods, where it remained for many years."
I don't know that this beats the teeth story, but it's pretty great.
the what story?
I'm finally doing it! Thoughts on Day of Black Sun, parts 1 and 2:
(sleep can wait because i certainly can't)
I really like that Sokka and Katara are back in their water tribe clothes! (as well as Toph and Aang in their respective colours and garb). Very symbolic that they do so on this day.
Haru??? ToT I mean, I'm glad he showed up again but H U H
EVERYONE SHOWING UP YESS TEO AND THE SWAMPBENDERS AND THE EARTHBENDER FIGHTERS AND PIPSQUEAK AND THE DUKE!!! I love how Bato is also just. present. all the time
Teo gave him a new glider ššAND IT'S BLUE! AND HAS A SNACK COMPARTMENT
Ok, they're explaining the plan in detail, so obviously things are going to go wrong. In fiction, usually you know the plan will be successful when they don't explain it and just show its execution.
I love to see the Sokka's quieter moments. He is a good strategist, no doubt, but I always welcome the story beats where his confident facade falters, or where he gets to feel supported (Katara saying "I'm proud of you too" water tribe siblings you have my heart <3)
APPA'S ARMOUR <3333 SOKKA YOU'VE OUTDONE YOURSELF THESE TWO EPS. Also he straight up invented submarines??! Yes his drawing were... questionable but are we just gonna gloss over that??
Fire Nation tech is like. scarily good. But omggg all the earth tanks?? the submarines and way the invasion team implements bending??? AAAAAHHHHHH SO COOL
We're back with the Zuko-Aang scene splicing
Aang and Katara definitely have to talk about...that. when they're in a better frame of mind
I was yelling "I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU KILL HAKODA-" at the screen the entire time. On many levels, I'm so glad that didn't happen.
Sokka just yelling about how damn happy he is that Toph is on their side is so valid actually XD
Love how Azula just has a couple of Dai Li attack dogs now ToT
YESS YESSSS ZUKO MY BOY OH GOD FINALLY. I really like the way his speech to Ozai was framed, all the points he touched upon. The way he is made to (as in, the character is made to) acknowledge the harm caused by the FN, that steps have to be taken to end and undo and help heal, that what was done - both to him and the world - is wrong...
WHERE IS SUKI THOUGH??!
In a way, I was kinda hoping... we don't find out what exactly happened to Zuko and Azula's mom? I mean, I guess we didn't, but. yeah i'll sit with this till we get more in later eps
I was so sure Aang was going to run off to face Ozai regardless of the lack of eclipse, and I AM SO GLAD Sokka talked him out of it because I was biting my nails thinking of what a bad choice that would have been.
I'm so upset I didn't know Katara as a child, she would have been my entire personality with how amazing she is in every damn scene T-T The way she is in combat now? The way she slashes balloons and chains and freezes people to posts and heals all on the field?? KATARA ILY!!
I'm going to make a separate post touching upon how these two eps contrast and mirror Lake Laogai and the Book 2 finale because hooo boy-
Zuko. Zuko I understand what you intend to do but please make sure you don't get fucking killed on sight by all 3 elements when you show up like "Guys I've changed I swear" (I can't WAIT to see where this goes from here hehehehehe)
fun thing i noticed

OUAT Rewatch 2x16 - The Millerās Daughter
This would have been enough. You - you would have been enough.
After the beetle probes come back (honestly, probably even before), plenty of things get (re)named after Ryland Grace - Grover Cleveland Middle School becomes Ryland Grace Middle School, obviously, and astronomy/astrobiology buildings on college campuses and STEM scholarships in his name. Astrophage almost certainly gets the scientific name Astrophagus gracei.
Eva Stratt, meanwhile, gets the Eva Stratt Memorial Library (tagline: "she's not dead we just like remembering her") which is not, in fact, a library, it's the predominant hub for internet media piracy. The creators think they're hilarious.
first contact
#anyways im so normal about this scene#like. your best friend is an alien who you can never truly touch because their atmosphere would kill you#and the one and only time you ever touch is under life or death circumstances#and the mark left behind is evidence of both the care you have for each other and the time you almost lost each other forever#something something platonic soulmarks something something drag path (tags by OP)
interpersonal dynamics in the white lotus
bumi & iroh: they get along personality-wise but iroh being the fire nation prince who led an invasion of the earth kingdom makes things just a little weird. they'll be hanging out all chill and joking around and then bumi will toss out a joke at iroh's expense and iroh will just have to take it (and to his credit, he does)
bumi & jeong jeong: they don't dislike each other but they also don't really get each other. bumi keeps trying to get jeong jeong to loosen up (bc the guy who rebeled against the fire nation should be a fun rule-breaker, right?) and jeong jeong doesn't want to loosen up
bumi & pakku: bumi thinks pakku is a boring stick in the mud and pakku thinks bumi should put on a shirt
bumi & piandao: everyone is always surprised at how they well they get along but underneath the different exteriors they're the same kind of eccentric genius. they don't hang out often but when they do Wacky Shenanigans ensue
iroh & jeong jeong: iroh understands jeong jeong's struggles and wants to help but jeong jeong finds it annoying when iroh pulls the "old wise master" voice on him bc they're like the same age and jeong jeong left the fire nation first. like don't act like you're so much wiser than me about being a fire nation dissident, i've been doing it longer! they're not on bad terms though. they're both tea snobs and jeong jeong appreciates having someone else do the firebending
iroh & pakku: when people talk about the white lotus as an old boys' club this is what they're talking about. pakku is not super trusting of the fire prince but he's also kind of insulated from the war. they have shared a misogynistic joke or two
iroh & piandao: piandao was the grand lotus who vouched for iroh when the rest doubted him - he understands having a change of heart about the war plus he's a strategic guy and knew iroh would be a great asset. unfortunately iroh is less aware of that second part and thinks piandao likes him more than he does. piandao likes him fine and they bond over parenting zuko but nonbender orphanage kid piandao will always have a bit of a chip on his shoulder about wealthy firebenders
jeong jeong & pakku: mutual loathing. pakku hates jeong jeong for being a colonizer and jeong jeong hates pakku for his sexist beliefs about waterbending healing
jeong jeong & piandao: gay divorce weird old man yaoi similar to iroh & jeong jeong, piandao gets what jeong jeong's going through and wants to help while jeong jeong is resistant. the difference is that he's less preachy and not a firebender so there's an actual chance jeong jeong will listen to him. jeong jeong is lowkey jealous of him being a nonbender
pakku & piandao: piandao thinks pakku is a boring traditionalist and pakku thinks piandao's the only other member of the white lotus with some common sense and it's not NOT true but he only thinks that bc piandao isn't a firebender or as obvious as bumi about being eccentric so piandao kinda resents the implication

Important research for a story I'm writing! Not real life, never real life.
You are transported back in time and into the body of a young noblewoman in the 1400s. Your parents have married you off to an awful, abusive, rapist husband whom literally no one else would marry despite him being very high nobility because he's that terrible. You successfully produce a baby boy and then plan to murder this man for the good of everyone and yourself. Here is the question: do you think you could murder him in a way that is undetectable to the historical people around you? Note: they aren't stupid, you are the prime suspect as the battered wife AND you can't just say poison. Where are you going to buy poison? Do you know anything about poison actually? NO GOOGLING! You were sent back without a plan!
Do you think you could murder someone in the 1400s and get away with it with your modern know-how?
Yes, I totally have a plan (tell me for research purposes)
No, I realize that I'm very uninformed about murder
I have some ideas but I'm not sure they would work
Edit: my notes are full of murder. I love you all
Grace Rocky Save Stars! Just finished this and I'm so happy with it. Played around a bit with the colours and light until it felt right. Tried to capture the hopefulness that the movie's second half has. PHM is sooo good, the plot, the music, the VISUALS, the relationship between a school teacher and a talking rock has just gripped my heart and is squeezing it. I'm already working on more pieces of Grace and Rocky.
