OC STRUGGLES IN THE RPC
honestly writing an OC in this community is another set of issues.
the soul crushing feeling when you see âno OCsâ in someones rules
constantly having to dumb down your canon
adjusting to adapted canons
the amount of your own canon and lore you have to sacrifice to do that
when you mention wanting to write a canon, people that have never shown any real interest in your OC jump out of the woodwork to encourage you to do it
when you do it, and that canon gets more attention than your OC ever did
the alternative of that: when your first character was canon and you transition to writing an OC, people suddenly disappear
fandom OCs that outgrow their fandoms and muns that feel they have nowhere to put them
endlessly worrying if your character is too sue-ish, even after x-amount of years
TRIPLE THAT IF YOUâRE PLAYING A FEMALE OC
oh my god female OCs need their own post
female OCs constantly being underestimated and dismissed; being held to a different set of standards than other OCs
honestly i know people that are straight up afraid to write a female OC for these reasons. theyâre discouraged before they even start because they know they will never get the same acknowledgement
people assuming simple, stupid things about your muse (can we all agree to stop guessing whose muse is taller and just look from now on?)
feeling like you have to jump through hoops to keep up with everyone else and keep your character fresh and interesting so people donât lose interest
canon blogs that shit on OCsâ you realize you were OCs too right? what would the original writer of your canon think?
no seriously, it can be so discouraging writing an OC. how many ideas are you killing by snubbing OCs? the future of creative media is in our hands!
has someone stolen my canon?
is my canon too similar to someone elseâs?
do they think i stole their canon?
and what do you do when somebody does steal your canon? it can be so hard to prove and itâs so easy for it to be dismissed
having your OC written off because of the face claim choiceâ that face is constantly typecast, nobody can take it seriously, theyâve been overplayed and ruined. (we love you, nina dobrev and 1D OCs, youâre doing gods work)
honestly, iâm sure i could keep going. if you ask your local OC muns, theyâll be able to tack a few of their own struggles onto this list. hell, i encourage you to!

Blaise let out an annoyed huff at that. âDo you ever shut up?â he questioned finally, eyes narrowing a little at that. However, he didnât allow the other to answer ââ already able to guess what Isra would have of answered either way. Instead he moves his lips upon the otherâs, pulling him in for a bruising and aggressive kiss, showing how frustrated and turned on he was at the same time. Biting at the otherâs bottom lip, he then pulls back and licks his lips. âIâm not interested in men, no, but apparently my body is interested in yours.â Because of course their bodies would have great compatibility. It just served as an extra smack to the face.
About to answer the question, Isra finds himself pleasantly surprised when his mouth ends up otherwise occupied. He chuckles against Blaiseâs mouth, briefly struggling for dominance before giving in to the hunter. Panting for breath as they break apart, a wicked gleam in his eyes as he watches Blaiseâs tongue. âHow often do you tell yourself that? You almost sound like you believe it.â Isra leaned in close, grazing his teeth over the hunterâs neck, threatening to bite, but only whispering instead.  âI could give you a nice little mark here, you know. Right where people would see it. Itâs very tempting.â

Things had been unusually peaceful. Boring, even.
Isra knew it wouldnât last.
Especially now, as he held his hand to his side, crimson blooming in the snow behind him. He hated walking. Especially when it was so cold. It wasnât like him to get stabbed, either, but some version of the drug that fucked with his powers had started to become popular. Heâs been an idiot to let his guard down, even a little. And he paid in blood.
Home seemed so far away, but he could rest when he got there, take care of the deep slash that traced along his ribs. It could have been worse, he reckons. At least an organ hadnât gotten nicked.
A thought finally occured to him, and he fumbled to grab his phone, the slim electronic slick in his hand before the blood grows colder and tacky. His thumb is quick to type a message, having to pause a couple of times to just focus.

Gumshoe regretted the words the moment Isra began to flinch. The hand on his back remained gently rubbing, up and down soothingly, even as his other hand set aside the information and wrapped around him. âIsra, I know. You remade yourself. I fully support you. I told you ages ago, never, ever will that name cross my lips without permission. Or any other name I read in those files. I donât even mention those first names when talking about coworkers that have them.âÂ
He pulled Isra close, his voice very soft. âYou need to know where she was. What happened. It will be good closure at least. Maybe something will come of it.. I dunno. But⌠if Iâm gonna be interrogating her about things Iâm probably going to need to say those names, provide her with enough information to show Iâm knowledgeable about the case, especially if she knows about the ending of that story. I wonât give away what really happened, or that you sent me, without permission. Iâll.. invent a scenario, say that Iâm investigating that case because thereâs parallels and she was the only name I could find still around.â
Isra took deep breaths, leaning his head against Gumshoe, just focusing on remaining calm. Â âThank you. Â Just...hold me for a bit.â Â He curls against the other, his eyes squeezed shut. Â âYouâre wonderful, have I told you that recently? Â Just amazing. Â More than I ever thought I could deserve.â
He just nods, a sigh huffed from his lips.  âYouâre right.  I just need to finally finish this chapter of my life.  Even if itâs awful.  But...yeah.  Youâre good with people, youâll know what to do.  You donât...you donât have to lie if you donât want.â  Isra smiles a bit, placing his lips on the detectiveâs temple. âYou wouldnât want to help me not think for a bit, would you?â
yougotthatrightpal:
Gumshoe chuckled and pressed a kiss to Israâs cheek to soften his next words. âFigured you did, but didnât want to out and out say it.â A cursory glance over the sheet revealed notes ranging from contact information for her and a few people that were probably her acquaintances or friends, and her work schedule. Gumshoe didnât doubt this was a âcleaned upâ version of Israâs information. He probably knew her dress and shoe sizes, food preferences, which sock she tended to put on first, and whether she lied to her dentist about flossing daily but those sheets would never appear before the detective. It was easier on his nerves (and likely better for their relationship) to leave the depth of Israâs stalking a mystery.Â
Dick could work with the information he was given, though.
âIâm going to have to use your original name, you know.â Isra was aware the detective had gone over the cold case files for the incident years ago. âAnd talk about what happened. You might.. not want to listen in. I know itâs hard for you.â
The smile on his face looks a little weary, and he leans against the detective. âIâm not...Iâm still not really used to someone knowing me that well. Â Itâs still weird...But I like it, donât get me wrong.â Â It was just odd, not having his secrets to hide behind any more. And he had definitely cleaned up the information he handed the detective. Â He didnât want to put any strain on the happiness he had now, and revealing more of his flaws to the detective was unappealing.
Israâs face paled at the statement, and he withdrew into himself a little, looking very unhappy at the thought. Â âThat person died, Gumshoe. Â I...maybe this isnât a good idea. I dunno...and I have to listen, Gummy...â Â He buries his face in his hands, conflicted.

but I want to do a murder
And I want to find the root source of the problem and not make martyrs of jerks that could fuel a massive bigoted movement that would only cause further anti-nonhuman sentiments and actions, possibly harming folks whose only crime is not being human and not having the protections and resources some others have.
So please donât do murder.Â
Uhhhh huh, uh-huh right and who exactly are you?Â
Heâs The Man.

Specifically a human detective working in the ICOD. It means Iâm doubly anti-murder, palâitâs tons of work to process, and the stuff above.
Youâre lucky that Isra is cute and in my good graces cause I hear âcopâ and Iâm already hovering on the block button and revving up some curses. Half your folk got the damn avengers on speed dial any time Iâm just getting some starbucks. Do you have any idea how annoying that is? Â
But I think youâre a Seluna Friendly⢠which means Iâm obligated to be nice. I try to be decentâreallyâbut I keep finding myself in situations with no good answers and a part Iâm perfect to play. You must be familiar with that Liash nonsense. What do you think is the answer? How are you going to find the ârootâ of an ideology and solve it without murder?Â
Well, now I'm blushing and useless to this conversation.

Gumshoe kept up the affection since it seemed to be doing some good. Just rubbing Israâs back as they continued to watch, touching another kiss to his head and then settling into silence for a long moment. âWell, I⌠well, youâve been watching for days, I bet. Do you have her address or a phone number for her? I can âŚcome up with some reason to set up an appointment to talk to her. Or the name and location for the diner, I could get that number and call that instead, when her shift ends.â
He chuckled, a warm laugh deep in his chest. âI think you want to like her. I think⌠You want to meet her. But the trouble is that you have years of resentment and fear of being rejected or that the worst is true. Which is why Iâm gonna talk to her first.â Gumshoe patted Isra softly. It said a lot that Isra was reacting so strongly to finding her. In factâŚÂ âHow.. did you find her, anyway?â
Tension melted form his shoulders with the continued affection, tired eyes  sliding shut for a moment.  He huffs a laugh, smile crawling on his face. âYou know me too well.  If I wasnât keeping an eye on her, I was thinking.  And youâve seen how I get when I think.  Iâm still sorry for being such a mess.â  Isra laughs, looking up at the detective.  âDarling, you know better.  I know too much about her, probably.  I couldnât really stop myself.  I wanted to know everything.â  A sheet of paper is pushed from a shadow, and Isra hands it to Gumshoe.  âAll the information youâd want.  Numbers, addresses.  I could tell you her favorite brand of cigarettes, too.  She rarely smokes, though.â
The detectiveâs chuckle only makes him laugh again, and he places a kiss on Gumshoeâs cheek. Â âYou read me so easily. Â And youâre the best.â Â He hums, reaching his arms above his head in a stretch. Â âHow did I find her? Â Iâve been feeling stronger, as far as my powers are concerned...And Iâve just been trying to...get myself back to normal. Â I honestly didnât look for her. Â Iâd given up on that a long, long time ago. Â But when I saw her...She looks just like me. Â I was curious. Â And she was my mom...â
yougotthatrightpal:
The detective was surprisingly difficult to read in that moment. His thoughts and mood were usually so plainly on display, but when given a reason he could be rather good at hiding what was going on in his head. Isra, having more exposure than most as his boyfriend, could read subtle cues and see his concern and shock.
Which melted into first indignation and then a scoffing laugh at her way of handling the situation. âHoly crap.â The detective hugged Isra, one armed, for a moment. âChou, you last saw her when you were a little kid. You are already guaranteed to have changed all over.â He gently rubbed his back and said, quieter, âGiven your dad being how he was isnât it possible he misrepresented her to you? Lied about her to make you hate her?âÂ
Gumshoe paused for a long while, but smiled. âYou want to meet her. Or at least have me meet her for you. If nothing else, if sheâs a horrible person, you can close this chapter and move on entirely. If not, and if you choose to, maybe you could get to know her and vice versa.â A kiss would be pressed to his head. âSo far I tentatively like her. That was like something youâd do if you didnât have powers and got unwanted attention.â
Isra worried his lip as he watched Gumshoeâs face became nearly unreadable, finding himself relying completely on the detectiveâs judgement. Â He took Gumshoeâs hand and squeezed, waiting for his judgement.
He huddled into the hug, a smirk on his face at the detectiveâs reaction.  Isra frowns, hiding his face in Gumshoeâs chest, preferring to not think about his father.  âOf course itâs possible.  Itâs probably what happened.  But...Either way, she abandoned me.  Why would she even want to see me?â
Hiding his face in his hands and sighing, his conflict is clear. Â âI mean...I figure that youâre a better judge of character than me. Â If you meet her for me and you think sheâs the kind of person I donât need in my life, I trust that youâll let me know, and then we can pretend this never happened.â Â The kiss and statement made him smile and feel a little better about things, and he keeps his focus on the images shown by the shadows. Â âYeah...Sheâs certainly feisty. Â I still donât know how to feel about her.â
yougotthatrightpal:
I canât specify. Just that the thing being investigated is illegal, and at least one of the ideas being thrown about to help it would be considered illegal because of reasons and it would also impede investigation.
But I canât specify, or if someone does the thing I could get in trouble.
So I shouldnât do a bunch of illegal stuff until I guess which one you may have been referencing?
Damn. Â There goes my whole day.

Casual reminder that even if I donât post many updates on my life since thereâs so much I canât talk about on social media that I tend to read everything posted.
Also certain issues are being investigated. I canât say more than that, other than itâs highly illegal to do the thing.
Youâre going to have to specify what that âthingâ may be, darling.
